You can reach this campground at (217) 324-4771 or their mobile number, +1 217-324-4771, to inquire about availability and make reservations. Based on feedback from fellow campers, Bicentennial Campground offers a friendly atmosphere and serves as an excellent base for exploring the numerous attractions around Lake Lou Yaeger.
One of the frequently highlighted aspects of Bicentennial Campground is its welcoming and accommodating management. Several reviewers specifically mentioned the manager, Wes, describing him as laid-back, funny, kind, and very helpful. This personal touch can significantly enhance the camping experience, making guests feel more at ease and well-cared for during their stay. The friendly demeanor of the staff contributes to the overall positive vibe of the campground.
While some reviewers noted that the campsites are relatively close together, the general consensus is that the campground's primary purpose is to serve as a convenient home base for engaging in the various activities offered by Lake Lou Yaeger and the surrounding area. This suggests that while you might be in proximity to your camping neighbors, the wealth of nearby attractions more than compensates for this. The focus here is on access to the lake and its recreational opportunities.
And what opportunities there are! Lake Lou Yaeger and its vicinity boast a wide array of activities to cater to diverse interests. Nature enthusiasts will appreciate the hiking and horse trails, perfect for exploring the scenic beauty of the area. Families with children will find the nice playground a welcome addition, providing a space for kids to burn off energy. A significant draw is the beach area, and with a campsite reservation, you typically receive two wristbands for entry, making it easy to enjoy swimming and sunbathing. For those who enjoy boating and water activities, the presence of a marina offers convenient access to the lake. Fishing enthusiasts will also find opportunities to cast their lines and try their luck.
Beyond the natural and recreational offerings, the town of Litchfield itself has a cute downtown area that is worth exploring. Taking a walk around the downtown can provide a pleasant change of pace and the chance to discover local shops and eateries. The convenience of having both natural attractions and a charming town nearby adds to the appeal of Bicentennial Campground.
Regarding the campsites themselves, reviews indicate that they are generally level and feature a gravel surface. Many sites back up to the bathhouse, which some campers found to be very convenient. The bathhouse facilities include showers (one per side in the main area, with two in the men's room according to one reviewer) and several bathrooms. While one review mentioned a large turnout over Labor Day, the women's restroom was reported to have stayed fairly clean, suggesting a commitment to maintaining hygiene even during busy periods.
Each campsite is equipped with essential hookups, including a water connection, 20/30 amp electrical power, and two 15 amp plugs. Additionally, each site has a picnic table and a fire ring, quintessential elements for a comfortable and enjoyable camping experience. For RVers, a dumping station is conveniently located just up the road. Firewood is available for purchase near the dumping station, making it easy to have campfires. For other necessities like ice, a gas station is located just about two miles away in the town area, providing quick access to supplies.
The proximity and convenience of accessing the beach and marina from the campground are also highlighted in the reviews. This ease of access means less travel time and more time enjoying the lake and its facilities.
While the overwhelming feedback is positive, one reviewer did mention an issue with loud and unruly children from another campsite late at night. However, they also acknowledged that this is not the responsibility of the campground or the manager but rather a matter of camping neighbors, which can vary. This isolated incident doesn't detract from the overall positive experience reported by others.
Another camper mentioned that while the campground was very clean, including the restrooms and showers, they found the campsite parking to be a bit challenging. The sites were oriented at a 90-degree angle to the narrow one-way gravel drive, which might require some maneuvering, especially for larger vehicles. However, this was a minor point in an otherwise positive review.
Overall, Bicentennial Campground at Lake Lou Yaeger appears to be a well-regarded "camping near me" option for those in the Litchfield, IL area. Its friendly management, access to a wide range of activities around Lake Lou Yaeger (including hiking, horse trails, a playground, a beach, a marina, and fishing), and proximity to the charming downtown of Litchfield make it an attractive destination. The campsites offer essential amenities like water and electrical hookups, picnic tables, and fire rings. While the campsites might be close together and parking in some spots could be a bit tricky, the overall experience seems to be positive, with many reviewers expressing a desire to return.
There is no specific promotional information provided in the reviews. However, the consistent praise for the friendly atmosphere, the cleanliness of the facilities, and the convenient access to Lake Lou Yaeger's attractions serve as strong endorsements for this campground. If you're looking for a local camping spot that offers more than just a place to sleep, Bicentennial Campground at Lake Lou Yaeger seems to provide a well-rounded experience with plenty to see and do.

Bicentennial Campgroud at Lake Lou Yaeger Reviews
Very friendly campground! Manager, Wes, is laid back, funny, kind, and accommodating. The campsites are pretty packed together, but the campground overall is small and it's meant more as a home base for doing other things that the lake and area offer. There's hiking, horse trails, a nice playground, a beach area (you get two wrist bands for entry with a campsite reservation), marina, fishing, a cute downtown area to walk around, and more.We were in site 30. One pic is the distance from the bathroom to our site. Very close! There were many (very level) gravel sites that backed up to the bathhouse. It has one shower per side and several bathrooms. The women's room stayed fairly clean despite a big turnout for Labor Day. The guys in my family said the same (2 showers in there, they said.)Our biggest/only complaint was loud, unruly kids that stayed out well past 11pm. (We have kids, but these kids were feral; destroying things and being a bit out of control for 9/10 yr olds. Ie. throwing rocks repeatedly at a metal supply closet door! Yes, I stopped them.) That's not up to the campground or manager, just camping neighbors, which changes constantly. Each site has a water hookup, 20/30 amp power, two 15 amp plugs, a level gravel site, a picnic table, and a fire ring. Dumping station is just up the road. Wood is for sale near the dumping station. We got ice at a gas station only 2 miles away in the town area. The beach/marina access is very close and convenient.I would camp here again!!
Sep 06, 2021 · Katy RoseThe Campground was very clean as were the restrooms & showers. It is conveniently located near Lake Lou Yeager. I wish the campsite parking was easier. The sites were @ a 90° angle to the narrow one way gravel drive.
Jul 29, 2023 · Bill BurkeIts peaceful. Nice campers. A little high but worth it.
Sep 04, 2019 · Judy SmithWorst campground and beach/lake ever! Campground manager Wes hassled us about having our boat at our campsite. Wasn't in anyone's way but were told to move when other campers had boats there. Beach House manager was also very rude and on a serious power trip. We were told we could not park our boat near the beach so our daughter could see a friend. She and Wes threatened to call the cops even though we didn't do anything wrong. Campsites suck and facilities are horrible. Will never camp here again or boat on this lake. Litchfield should be ashamed how the campground and beach are ran!
Jul 22, 2022 · Evan BaughSmall but very nice campground. Wes, the campground manager, is the best; friendly and accomodating. He stopped by a few times to see if we needed anything. We will definitely stop here again.
