Big Trinity Lake Campground Introduce
For local users searching for "camping near me" and seeking a tranquil and picturesque escape, Big Trinity Lake Campground, located near Mountain Home, Idaho, offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourselves in nature. This campground is situated alongside the beautiful Big Trinity Lake, providing a serene environment ideal for those who appreciate a more secluded and rustic camping experience. While offering stunning scenery and opportunities for recreation, it's important for potential visitors to be aware of the access conditions and the nature of the campsites.
Environment and Location: Big Trinity Lake Campground is nestled in a beautiful setting, with the lake serving as the central focal point. The scenery is described as beautiful, offering campers a chance to wake up to tranquil lake views and enjoy the natural surroundings. The campground's location provides a sense of being away from it all, particularly noted by a visitor who found it "almost totally deserted" on a Monday, suggesting a high degree of peace and quiet, especially during off-peak times. The surrounding environment likely features typical Idaho mountain terrain, contributing to the overall scenic appeal of the location.
The address for Big Trinity Lake Campground is Mountain Home, ID 83647, USA, placing it within reasonable driving distance for local residents in the Mountain Home area and surrounding regions. However, it's crucial to note the access considerations mentioned in the reviews. One visitor highlighted that "the drive up is rough" and requires "good clearance." This suggests that vehicles with lower ground clearance may encounter difficulties navigating the road leading to the campground. Despite the challenging road conditions, the reviewer did observe a few horse trailers making their way up, indicating that the area is also accessed by those with equestrian interests, though the journey may be tough on the animals. Additionally, it's important to be aware that "the road from Fall Creek up is still closed," requiring visitors to access the campground via Pine-Featherville. Another reviewer corroborated this, stating that "the road from Featherville is far easier than the road from Anderson Ranch (which requires 4 wheel drive and clearance)." Therefore, local users planning a trip to Big Trinity Lake Campground should carefully consider their vehicle type and the recommended route via Featherville to ensure a smoother journey.
Services and Amenities: Based on the information available, specific details about formal services and amenities at Big Trinity Lake Campground are limited. However, the positive mention that "the campground was clean" suggests that basic upkeep is maintained. The observation of "lots of firewood stacked everywhere" in one review is a significant positive, indicating that firewood may be readily available for campers, although this might have been due to the low occupancy at the time of the visit. It's important to note that one reviewer explicitly stated, "This campground is for sleeping in tents, there really isn't any flat ground except for where it has been leveled for tents. I really didn't see anywhere you could park a trailer or larger RV." This is a crucial piece of information for local users planning their camping trip – Big Trinity Lake Campground appears to be primarily designed for tent camping, with limited or no suitable spots for trailers or larger recreational vehicles. For definitive information on available amenities such as restrooms, water sources, and other services, contacting the campground directly at (208) 587-7961 or +1 208-587-7961 is highly recommended.
Features and Highlights: The standout features of Big Trinity Lake Campground revolve around its natural beauty and the opportunities it offers for a more primitive camping experience:
- Beautiful Lake and Scenery: The lake itself is a major attraction, praised for its beauty and the scenic views it provides. This creates a picturesque backdrop for camping and relaxation.
- Secluded Atmosphere: The reports of low occupancy, especially during the week, suggest a quiet and secluded environment, ideal for those seeking solitude and a break from crowded campgrounds.
- Good Fishing (Potentially): One reviewer mentioned that "the fishing was good," indicating that the lake is a viable spot for anglers. However, another reviewer reported "fishing was poor," so the fishing experience may vary depending on factors such as the time of year and fishing conditions.
- Tent Camping Focus: The campground is specifically suited for tent camping due to the lack of flat ground for larger vehicles. This caters to those who prefer a more traditional and immersive camping experience.
- Firewood Availability (Potentially): The observation of stacked firewood suggests that it might be available for campers to use, enhancing the traditional campfire experience.
- Access via Scenic Routes: While the road conditions can be challenging, the drive through areas like Pine-Featherville can be scenic, adding to the overall outdoor adventure.
Promotional Information and Local Appeal: For local users in the "camping near me" category who are looking for a more off-the-beaten-path tent camping experience, Big Trinity Lake Campground offers a potentially rewarding destination. The promise of a beautiful lake, scenic surroundings, and a secluded atmosphere can be highly appealing to those seeking tranquility and a closer connection with nature. The possibility of good fishing adds another layer of attraction for anglers in the local community.
However, it is crucial for local users to be well-prepared for the access conditions. Ensuring your vehicle has adequate ground clearance and considering the recommended route via Featherville are essential for a smooth arrival. The fact that the campground is primarily for tent camping means that those with trailers or RVs will likely need to seek alternative locations. The $10 per night camping fee mentioned by one reviewer suggests that it is an affordable option for those willing to embrace a more rustic camping style.
If you are a local camper who enjoys tent camping in a secluded and scenic lakeside environment and are prepared for potentially challenging road conditions, Big Trinity Lake Campground could be an excellent choice for your next getaway. Remember to contact the campground directly at (208) 587-7961 or +1 208-587-7961 to inquire about current conditions, amenities, and any specific requirements for visiting. Embrace the opportunity to discover the natural beauty and tranquility of Big Trinity Lake!

Big Trinity Lake Campground Reviews
I went on a Monday, so the place was almost totally deserted- very nice. The lake and scenery are beautiful and the fishing was good. This campground is for sleeping in tents, there really isn't any flat ground except for where it has been leveled for tents. I really didn't see anywhere you could park a trailer or larger RV. The campground was clean- lots of firewood stacked everywhere- though there wasn't anyone else in the campground- I was in on the SW end of the lake. The drive up is rough, need good clearance, though I did see a few people with horse trailers on the way- those horses had to take a beating. Also- the road from Fall Creek up is still closed, you need to go through Pine-Featherville.
Aug 13, 2021 · I_grok_U 2Beautiful spot, 10$ per night for camping. Fishing was poor -1 star for that. The road from Featherville is far easier than the road from Anderson Ranch (which requires 4 wheel drive and clearance).
Aug 01, 2018 · Allan OvermeyerBeautiful place! The only downfall are the constant ATV's driving up from Anderson reservoir.
Jul 20, 2020 · Kathren Reese (Kat)Nice little hike to get there but it was a fun night of fishing and getting eaten alive by mosquitoes.
Jul 23, 2019 · Jeff KnudsenBeautiful campground. Very peaceful. Lucked out and saw an osprey fishing. Spot 17 is awesome. There is a little creek flowing next to it. Ice cold water. I stepped into the lake and had muck up to my knee. So much for wading. There are sections of the road with very fine and deep moon dust.
