Birch Grove Campground

Twin Lakes Landing, Washburn, WI 54891, USA

4.0
A nice place to spend a night while visiting the Bayfield peninsula. Many trees here blew down in a major storm several years ago, so campsites don't have much vegetation between them. Things are just starting to grow back after storm cleanup.Despite storm damage, the location remains scenic. The two lakes bordering the campground each have a basic boat landing. Neither lake looks ideal for swimming, though there's a small beach right at the campground on the western lake.A nicer swimming beach - and a hiking trail - can be found at Long Lake, just a short drive or bike ride to the southeast.Bring a mountain or cross bike if you plan to do any biking during your stay. It's a several mile ride on gravel and sand roads from the campground before you'll reach pavement. - Greg Krueger

Birch Grove Campground Introduce

If you're searching for a "camping near me" experience in the Washburn, Wisconsin area, Birch Grove Campground offers a unique lakeside setting in the Twin Lakes Landing region. Located at Twin Lakes Landing, Washburn, WI 54891, USA, this campground provides a rustic escape for those looking to connect with nature and enjoy the tranquility of northern Wisconsin. While the campground has experienced some environmental changes due to a past storm, it retains a scenic charm and offers access to two small lakes, making it a noteworthy option for local camping enthusiasts exploring "camping near me."

The environment at Birch Grove Campground is characterized by its proximity to two small lakes, offering a picturesque backdrop for your camping adventure. While a significant storm several years ago resulted in the loss of many trees, leading to less vegetation between campsites, the area is in a state of natural recovery. Despite this, the location remains scenic, providing a tranquil setting. The two lakes bordering the campground each have a basic boat landing, making them accessible for those who enjoy boating or kayaking. Campers have specifically noted that the lakes are perfect for kayaking. For swimming, while neither lake is described as ideal, there is a small beach located right at the campground on the western lake, offering a convenient spot for a quick dip. For those seeking a nicer swimming beach, Long Lake is just a short drive or bike ride to the southeast, providing an alternative option.

The services at Birch Grove Campground are described as basic, catering to a more traditional camping experience. The campground features two sets of pit toilets, which are noted to be very clean, indicating attention to hygiene despite the rustic nature of the facilities. Water is available via a single water pump on the premises. It's important to note that Birch Grove Campground does not offer electricity at the campsites, which contributes to its more primitive camping feel. Campers should come prepared with their own power sources if needed. The presence of boat landings on both adjacent lakes provides a key service for those interested in water activities. While there is no mention of on-site staff or a dedicated check-in area in the reviews, the basic amenities provided seem to focus on the essentials for a comfortable, albeit rustic, stay in a beautiful natural setting.

The features of Birch Grove Campground are centered around its natural setting and access to outdoor activities. The two small lakes are a primary feature, particularly highlighted for their suitability for kayaking. The presence of a small beach on the western lake offers a convenient, though perhaps not extensive, swimming option. For those looking for more developed recreational opportunities, the proximity to Long Lake, with its nicer swimming beach and a hiking trail, is a significant feature. However, it's important to note that reaching paved roads for biking from the campground involves traveling several miles on gravel and sand roads, which are also described as very stony with larger sharp stones. Therefore, bringing a mountain or cross bike is recommended for any biking excursions. The lack of electricity contributes to a quieter, more natural ambiance, appealing to those seeking a break from technology and modern conveniences. The clean pit toilets and the single water pump are essential features that, while basic, are well-maintained. The overall features of Birch Grove Campground emphasize a connection with nature and opportunities for low-impact outdoor activities like kayaking and exploring nearby trails and lakes.

The provided reviews do not contain any information about specific promotional offers for Birch Grove Campground. For local users interested in camping here, it would be advisable to check local camping directories or the Washburn County tourism website for any potential discounts for residents, off-season rates, or package deals. Given the campground's appeal for kayaking and its proximity to other natural attractions in the Bayfield Peninsula area, there might be promotions that combine camping with local tours or equipment rentals. As the campground seems to be more focused on providing a natural and rustic experience, promotional efforts might be less prominent than at more amenity-rich campgrounds. To get the most accurate information about pricing, availability, and any potential discounts, contacting the Washburn County Parks and Recreation Department (if Birch Grove is a county-run facility) or looking for listings on local camping reservation websites would be the best approach.

In conclusion, Birch Grove Campground near Washburn, WI, offers a scenic and rustic "camping near me" experience centered around two small lakes perfect for kayaking. While the campground has experienced some environmental changes, it remains a beautiful location for those seeking a more traditional outdoor adventure. The basic amenities, including clean pit toilets and a water pump, cater to self-sufficient campers. The proximity to Long Lake with its swimming beach and hiking trail adds to the recreational opportunities. However, potential bikers should be aware of the gravel and stony roads leading to paved areas. For local users looking for a lakeside camping experience in the Bayfield Peninsula, Birch Grove Campground provides a tranquil option. To inquire about availability and any potential promotions, checking local resources or contacting the relevant managing authority is recommended.
