Herbster Campground--Camping on Lake Superior Introduce
For local users searching for "camping near me" with the allure of lakeside views and the majestic presence of Lake Superior, Herbster Campground--Camping on Lake Superior, located at 87300 Bark Point Rd in Herbster, Wisconsin, presents a compelling option. This campground is positioned to offer a scenic camping experience with convenient access to the lake and nearby attractions. Based on customer reviews, it boasts both significant advantages and some aspects potential visitors should be aware of to ensure a satisfying stay.
The environment of Herbster Campground is a major draw, with multiple reviewers highlighting its "beautiful location" and "amazing views" of Lake Superior. The campground is reportedly set up in a way that historically allowed a lake view from every site, suggesting a thoughtful layout designed to maximize the scenic beauty. The presence of a great beach, which is also noted as dog-friendly, adds significantly to the appeal for those who enjoy swimming, sunbathing, or simply strolling along the shore with their canine companions. Sunsets over Lake Superior are also mentioned as being particularly spectacular, promising memorable evenings for campers. However, some reviews indicate that the view from certain sites might be limited due to the placement of other campers' vehicles, such as extra cars, trailers, or tow vehicles, which can obstruct the previously intended lake vistas. Despite this potential obstruction, the overall setting on the shores of Lake Superior provides a picturesque backdrop for a camping getaway.
In terms of services, Herbster Campground appears to offer essential amenities to ensure a comfortable stay. One reviewer who stayed in mid-September mentioned having a site with water and electric hookups, indicating that at least some sites are equipped with these conveniences. It was also noted that their particular site was not a pull-through, which is relevant for RVers planning their access. The campground provides "nice facilities," including clean bathrooms and a shower. The availability of clean and well-maintained restrooms and showers is a significant plus for many campers. While one reviewer mentioned an issue with toilet paper not being replenished in the bathrooms for an extended period, this seems to be an exception rather than the norm based on the general positive feedback regarding the facilities. The campground also has dump facilities, although one reviewer mentioned not using them, implying their availability for those who need them.
A significant feature of Herbster Campground is its location, which is described as "easy for a trip to Bayfield, or Duluth." This makes it a convenient base for exploring the attractions and amenities offered by these larger towns along the Lake Superior coastline. Bayfield is known for its charming shops, ferry services to the Apostle Islands, and apple orchards, while Duluth offers a vibrant waterfront, the iconic Aerial Lift Bridge, and various cultural and historical sites. This strategic location allows campers to enjoy the tranquility of the campground while still having easy access to day trip destinations and urban conveniences. The dog-friendly beach is another standout feature, catering to pet owners who wish to include their dogs in their lakeside adventures.
While the majority of the feedback points to a pleasant camping experience, one recurring concern is the issue of campsite crowding and adherence to campground rules. One long-time visitor expressed disappointment that "rude people are allowed to have their camper a car with a trailer and tow vehicle on their site," leading to obstructed views for other campers. This suggests that while the sites are initially set up to offer lake views, the lack of enforcement regarding the number and placement of vehicles on a single site can detract from the experience. Additionally, the same reviewer mentioned instances of dogs being left in campers and barking for extended periods, which can disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of the campground. These issues highlight the importance of clear and consistently enforced campground rules to ensure a positive experience for all visitors.
Despite these concerns, the positive aspects of Herbster Campground, such as its beautiful lakeside location, beach access, clean facilities, and proximity to regional attractions, make it a desirable option for those seeking "camping near me" on Lake Superior. The availability of water and electric hookups at some sites caters to a range of camping preferences. The mention of a more private fire ring at certain sites, even if the view is limited, might appeal to those prioritizing a secluded campfire experience. The sunsets over the lake are consistently praised, promising a visual treat for all campers.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information available in the provided reviews. However, the inherent appeal of camping directly on Lake Superior, combined with the convenience of clean facilities and access to nearby towns, serves as a strong draw. For local users looking for a lakeside camping experience with the option of exploring the surrounding region, Herbster Campground offers a promising setting. It would be beneficial for potential visitors to inquire about site layouts, vehicle restrictions, and pet policies when making reservations to mitigate some of the concerns raised in the reviews.
In conclusion, Herbster Campground--Camping on Lake Superior offers a compelling "camping near me" option for those seeking a lakeside retreat in Wisconsin. Its beautiful location on the shores of Lake Superior, complete with beach access and stunning sunset views, is a significant advantage. The presence of clean facilities, including bathrooms and showers, and the availability of water and electric hookups at some sites add to the convenience. Its proximity to Bayfield and Duluth makes it an excellent base for exploring the region. However, potential campers should be aware of the possibility of close campsites and the potential for obstructed views due to other campers' vehicles, as well as the importance of respectful pet ownership. By contacting the campground at (715) 813-0023 or +1 715-813-0023 for more details and to make reservations, local users can plan their lakeside camping experience at Herbster Campground and enjoy the natural beauty of Lake Superior.

Herbster Campground--Camping on Lake Superior Reviews
Camped for three nights in mid-September, back in the corner with water and electric. Not a pull through site and the view is limited, but the fire ring is more private. It's a quiet location, but we did hear neighbors chatting right outside the window because sites are a little tight. Nice facilities, clean bathrooms and shower. We didn't use the dump facilities.Beautiful location, easy for a trip to Bayfield, or Duluth.
Oct 25, 2024 · Carol StarkCampground used to be a five for me! Sites are set up nicely allowing a view of the lake from every site. However rude people are allowed to have their camper a car with a trailer and tow vehicle on their site. Started with a car in our view and after we asked them (very nicely) if they would be willing to move it up a bit so we could see the lake they replaced it with their truck. Dogs left in campers barking all day. Bathrooms without toilet paper for a whole afternoon/night. Views are amazing (when you can see them) Beach is great and dog friendly! Big plus! Sunsets are the best! Hate to give a bad review because of rude people but if people were asked to follow rules our experience would be a 5!
Jul 06, 2024 · Beth WingstedtI love Herbster Campground! Camping next to the beach, sunsets, the hosts, the laid back feel of the campground, all wonderful and well worth the annual camping trip North. As the campground is growing, so are the facilities; new bathrooms are being built in 2023, which is very much needed. As much as I hate to see the campground grow and sites full, Herbster Campground has not lost it's charm; it's a delight to see so many people enjoying camping on the south shore of Lake Superior.
Jul 05, 2023 · Judy VanGuilder - Northern Lights Ent.Nice campground, can't beat the tent sites right on the beach! Very good restroom & shower facilities, especially for a small private campground. Had site 1 under the line trees, best sunsets ever!
Sep 12, 2024 · Roland HauffWonderful little town and campground. We loved it! It rained the whole time we stayed but it was still a very relaxing vacation. Bathrooms and showers were very clean and nice. Porta potty was right next to our site and clean! It got cleaned out the day after we arrived too. They had a nice set up outside the bathrooms to wash your dishes. The hosts were extremely helpful and friendly. Beautiful view of the lake in our pop up! Walking distance to a nice little playground for my son and we walked over to the bar nearby for some drinks and ice cream! Locals were friendly as well. We will be making it an annual tradition! Can't wait to go back!
