The Environment: Immersed in the Black River State Forest

The spacing between campsites, enhanced by trees and vegetation, contributes to a sense of privacy and allows campers to feel more connected to the natural surroundings. The presence of the Black River with its rapids adds a dynamic element to the environment, offering scenic views and the soothing sound of moving water.
Services and Features: Back-to-Nature Camping
Based on the limited information available, Black River State Forest Campground appears to offer more basic amenities, focusing on the natural camping experience. The mention of a hand pump for drinking water suggests a rustic approach. While the reviews don't detail specific facilities like restrooms or showers, typical state forest campgrounds in Michigan often provide vault toilets and may have hand pumps for water, emphasizing a more self-sufficient camping style. The well-maintained mowed lawn in the center of the loops indicates some level of upkeep. The key features highlighted are the well-spaced and private campsites, the availability of drinking water, and the direct access to the Black River and its rapids via a trail.
The absence of mentions of extensive facilities suggests that this campground caters to those who appreciate a more traditional and less developed camping experience, where the focus is on the natural environment and tranquility.

Sep 17, 2023 · Greg KruegerOct 13 just me and one other site occupied for the night. Couldn't sleep due to a Great Horned Owl hooting up a storm all night long very close by. Best reason not to be able to sleep ever
Oct 14, 2023 · Adam AntonichStayed 10-11 to 10-13 2024. Almost empty. I chose campsight #11. It had steps leading down to the river which can be heard from the campsight (100 yds or so). Plenty of birds (I'm a bird nerd) and other wildlife. Hiked about 10 miles on Saturday and saw plenty of signs of deer, bear and wolf. Pretty secluded but still not far away from Naubinway. DNR officer stopped in on Saturday morning and we talked a while about the surrounding area and it's wildlife. I'll def be back!!!
Oct 16, 2024 · Pete McVannelThere was my brother and nephews we camped during hunting season very quiet I believe there are to many wolves in this area so if your hunting in this area I don’t believe you will see anything but staying at the camp ground and driving to a different area would be the thing to do to better your chances. But I give this camp ground a 5 star love the river next to the sites
Nov 18, 2023 · Timothy SissonBesides price increase and having to dump trash at a different campground, this is a great place for rustic camping if you enjoy peace and quiet and isolation from.other campers. The lake is close by as is fishing.
