Bois Brule Campground Introduce
Looking for an exceptional "camping near me" experience in Wisconsin? Consider Bois Brule Campground, located at 6250 Ranger Rd, Brule, WI 54820, USA. Based on glowing reviews from fellow campers, this small yet beautiful campground nestled within a pine forest along the scenic Brule River offers a unique and highly regarded outdoor experience. It's consistently praised as one of the best campgrounds visitors have encountered, making it a compelling option for local nature enthusiasts and those seeking a tranquil escape.
One of the standout features of Bois Brule Campground is its stunning natural environment. Situated in a pine forest directly alongside the Brule River, campers are immersed in the beauty of the boreal forest. This setting provides a picturesque backdrop for your camping adventure, with the sights and sounds of the river and the surrounding woods creating a serene atmosphere. The presence of mature trees likely offers ample shade and a sense of being truly connected with nature.
For those who enjoy water activities, Bois Brule Campground offers direct access to the Brule River. The reviews specifically mention that the campground has a place to easily "push your canoe into Brule or pull out." This makes it an ideal destination for canoeing enthusiasts looking to explore the river. Whether you're planning a leisurely paddle or a longer canoeing trip, the convenience of launching and landing right from the campground is a significant advantage. The Brule River itself is known for its natural beauty and opportunities for paddling.
Beyond the river, the campground also boasts a "short trail across the old forest over the hill," accessible directly from the camping area. This provides opportunities for hiking and exploring the unique ecosystem of the region. A walk through an "old forest" suggests mature trees and a rich natural history to discover. This trail adds another dimension to the camping experience, allowing visitors to stretch their legs and immerse themselves further in the woodland environment.
Adding to its unique appeal, Bois Brule Campground features a couple of campsites (specifically numbered 7 and 8) that are "walk in on the riverbank." These sites likely offer an even more secluded and intimate experience, being directly adjacent to the river and requiring a short walk to access. This would be particularly attractive to those seeking a more wilderness-oriented camping experience, falling asleep to the sounds of the flowing water.
The reviews explicitly highlight that Bois Brule Campground is an "ideal place for those who love Boreal forests and canoeing." This reinforces the key features: the beautiful pine forest setting characteristic of a boreal environment and the excellent access to the Brule River for canoeing. If these are aspects you value in a camping trip, Bois Brule Campground appears to be perfectly suited to your preferences.
The only caveat mentioned in the reviews is a testament to the campground's popularity and the quality of the other camping options in the Brule State Forest. One reviewer noted that "both campings in Brule State Forest are so good it is difficult to book a site." This suggests that Bois Brule Campground is highly sought after, and planning and booking in advance are likely necessary, especially during peak camping seasons. This high demand further underscores the positive experiences reported by visitors.
Another succinct yet powerful review simply states, "Favorite campground of all time." This emphatic endorsement speaks volumes about the positive impact Bois Brule Campground has on its visitors, highlighting its special qualities that create lasting memories.
To summarize the environment, services, and features of Bois Brule Campground:
- Stunning Natural Environment: Located in a beautiful pine forest along the Brule River, characteristic of a boreal forest.

Bois Brule Campground Reviews
Small, beautiful campground in a pine forest along Brule river. One of the best campgrounds I ever visited. Short trail across the old forest over the hill available from this camping, and they have place to push you canoe into Brule or pull out. Couple of sites (7&8) are walk in on the riverbank. Ideal place for those who love Boreal forests and canoeing. The only problem - both campings in Brule State Forest are so good it is difficult to book a site :)

Mar 16, 2025 · Kylie KnutsenSmall rustic campground in the woods beside the river, sites are spaced well apart and the restrooms were clean. The nearby main road was audible at night and the mosquitos chased us away after 1 night
Jun 21, 2024 · Aaron LedgerGreat river sites a stone's throw from the water. Quiet campground, brand new pit toilets as of this review.
Oct 25, 2017 · Jesse NiemandVery peaceful campsites nestled among one of the best rivers for paddling in the state. Pit toilets are kept clean, no showers are on site but after a day of swimming in the river or Lake Superior who needs one. Duluth and Bayfield are small little trips from here and add to the fun.
