Buckeye Beach Park Introduce
For local users in and around Thornville, Ohio, searching for "camping near me," Buckeye Beach Park, located at 13610 Shell Beach Rd NE, Thornville, OH 43076, USA, presents a unique situation as a campground currently undergoing significant renovations. With a phone number of (740) 538-5253 or +1 740-538-5253, Buckeye Beach Park offers lake access and some distinctive features, but recent reviews paint a picture of a park in transition with both potential and notable drawbacks that local users should be aware of.
The environment of Buckeye Beach Park is centered around its location on a lake, offering the appealing feature of a boat dock that extends directly into the water. This is a significant advantage for local users who enjoy boating and lake activities, providing direct access from the campground. One reviewer noted the coolness of the seasonal side of the park during the summer, suggesting a lively and social atmosphere in that area, typical of many campgrounds during peak season. The presence of an on-site "awesome dive bar" and a second bar across the street adds a unique social element that might appeal to some local campers looking for on-site entertainment and a social scene. The mention of being able to sit by a fire and hear karaoke from the seasonal side or the bar indicates a potentially vibrant atmosphere on weekends.
However, another recent review presents a starkly different perspective on the environment and overall condition of Buckeye Beach Park. This reviewer described being "instantly disappointed" upon arrival, citing the presence of "trashed trailers all over" and "some very shady people living in the back area." This paints a picture of a campground that is not well-maintained in all areas and raises concerns about the safety and aesthetic appeal of the environment for potential campers. The description of the place as a "mess" and a "dump" is a serious indictment of the current state of some parts of the property.
The services and features at Buckeye Beach Park appear to be in a state of flux due to the ongoing renovations. The existence of a boat dock is a notable feature, providing direct lake access for boating enthusiasts. The presence of two bars, one on-site and one across the street, is an unusual amenity for a campground and might be attractive to those seeking social interaction and on-site refreshments. The seasonal side of the park seems to offer a more traditional campground experience with a community atmosphere during the summer months, potentially including activities like karaoke.
However, the negative review raises significant concerns about the management's practices and the overall quality of the facilities. The mention of a non-refundable $95 application fee charged before arrival, coupled with the disappointment upon seeing the actual condition of the park, suggests a potential disconnect between expectations set prior to arrival and the reality of the campground. The reviewer's feeling of unsafety and strong recommendation to "stay away at all costs" due to the trashed trailers and "shady people" is a serious warning for potential local users.
The fact that the owners are "in the process of renovating an old trailer park and working hard in doing so" is a crucial piece of information. This indicates that the current state of disrepair might be temporary, and improvements are underway. One positive reviewer who stayed for six months and plans to stay through the summer of 2025 expresses excitement about the continued renovations. This suggests that while the park has its current issues, there is also a sense of progress and potential for future improvement.
Promotional information is not explicitly provided in the reviews. However, the positive reviewer mentions that the "price is fair" considering the ongoing renovations and the quiet atmosphere (at least in the area where they were located, away from the seasonal side and the bars). This suggests that the pricing might be adjusted to reflect the current condition and the ongoing improvements. Local users should inquire about current rates and any potential discounts related to the renovation process or off-season stays.
Given the highly contrasting reviews, local users considering Buckeye Beach Park need to weigh the potential benefits (lake access, boat dock, on-site bar, ongoing renovations) against the significant drawbacks (trashed areas, safety concerns raised by one reviewer, non-refundable application fee). It is essential to contact the park directly at the provided phone numbers to get the most current information about the status of the renovations, the condition of the campsites and facilities, and the management's policies regarding fees and refunds. Visiting the park in person before committing to a stay might also be advisable to assess the environment and safety for oneself.
In conclusion, Buckeye Beach Park presents a complex picture for local users seeking "camping near me" in Thornville, Ohio. While it offers the appealing features of lake access, a boat dock, and even an on-site bar, it is currently undergoing renovations, which has resulted in a mixed experience for recent visitors. One reviewer found it quiet and peaceful with friendly owners working on improvements, while another was severely disappointed by the trashed conditions and felt unsafe. Local users should proceed with caution, directly contact the park for the latest information, and potentially visit the site before making a reservation to ensure it meets their expectations for a local camping experience.

Buckeye Beach Park Reviews
So I like it here it’s quiet and peaceful the owners are in the process of renovating an old trailer park and working hard in doing so it has 2 sides the one is seasonal and definitely cool in the summer lots of people having fun which is like any campground in the summer! I work 6 days a week and am gone 14 hours a day but on the weekend I sit by the fire and listen to Kareoke from the seasonal side or the awesome dive bar on site! This place has an actual boat dock that leads out to the lake which I thought was cool the dock is about 20 feet from the bar plus there’s a second bar right across the street. It is a campground going through renovations but the price is fair and it’s quiet I’ve been here for 6 months and will be here through this summer and am excited to see how the renovations continue to change in 2025!
Jan 23, 2025 · Brandon LanduytThey make you pay $95 app fee which is not to be charged unless you arrive to set up. When you arrive you are instantly disappointed. There are trashed trailers all over and some very shady people living in the back area. I would never park a camper there as it feels very unsafe. This place is a mess and they refused to refund. Stay away at all costs , it’s a dump
