Tent camping enthusiasts will also find designated areas suitable for pitching their tents and enjoying a more traditional camping experience amidst the natural surroundings.
It's important to note, as highlighted by a visitor, that water spigots may be located at specific points within each loop. Upon arrival, be sure to consult the map available at the entrance of your chosen loop to identify the water locations and plan accordingly to fill up your water containers before settling into your campsite. This proactive step will ensure you have easy access to water throughout your stay.

One of the standout features of Buffalo Campground is its direct access to the Buffalo River. Therefore, it is crucial for all campers to practice proper food storage techniques to ensure the safety of both themselves and the animals. Securely storing food in bear-resistant containers or suspending it from trees away from your campsite is essential to prevent attracting these animals.
Another important consideration, as mentioned by a reviewer, is the presence of mosquitoes. Buffalo Campground Reviews
Right on the Buffalo river. There's some great spots down the road that you can do a 30 minute float. Make sure you store food properly, there's black bears and grizzlies.Take high deet bug spray, the mosquitoes are killer. But very friendly setting, tall grass all around and pine. There's trailer spots and hookups, as well at tent camping spots. Definitely recommend spending avweekend here.
Apr 27, 2025 · A ConklinWe took our 2 grandsons here with a camp trailer for a couple days. We had a great time. No complaints. We were able to reserve one of the few sites with electric and drive thru in loop C. Make sure to check the map at the entrance of the loop for the water locations and fill up before parking.
Aug 06, 2024 · Bruce BeanWe stayed here in the group campsite in early July 2021 during a Scout travel camp, for five days. We were doing stuff in Yellowstone, and this camp was in the perfect range. There is plenty of room, our girls were able to swim and wade in the Buffalo River (which is the southern border of the camp), and there was great infrastructure for getting our cooking done. Lots of nice tent sites. The camp hosts were wonderful people as well, and had a bunch of intel about the area. I would gladly stay here again, with a group, or just family.
Nov 30, 2021 · Bill HensleyVery nice, clean campground. Some spots have electric hook up. There are places that allow you to fill your water tank. No sewer hook-ups. It's by the river so you can float the river. Some area's require reservations. Host's are very helpful. Vault toilets are very clean.
Jul 01, 2022 · Sharon SmithWe Loved the Buffalo camp ground! It is about half an hour from Yellowstone's west gate. We stayed the first week in June for four nights. We started in B-12, which was a perfect pull through for our trailer and it was right by the river! We decided to stay another night and moved to A-8, just a row down which had the same perfect pull through and view of the river. The camp host was very friendly and informative and a pleasure to talk to! We will be returning to this campground for sure!
