Great campsite. Maybe a little tight for large travel trailer setups, but perfect for an average or small setup. Friendly Ranger staff and workers. The beach is one of the most beautiful I've seen and shorter walking distance than St. Andrews. The Nature Trail was very pretty as well. Too bad the pretty shell section has been either picked clean or crushed from heavy traffic. We will return if there is a campsite available. There is a washer and dryer at the restroom/ shower facility too. Very clean. - SportxThexWar

Camp Grayton Beach State Park Campground Introduce

For local residents seeking a coastal camping experience within the "camping near me" category, Camp Grayton Beach State Park Campground, located at Main Park Rd, Santa Rosa Beach, FL 32459, USA, offers a unique opportunity to camp in close proximity to the stunning beaches of the Florida Panhandle. Situated within Grayton Beach State Park, this campground provides access to natural beauty, recreational activities, and a generally tranquil camping environment, making it a desirable destination for those looking to enjoy the Gulf Coast.

The "environment" surrounding Camp Grayton Beach State Park Campground is characterized by the pristine white-sand beaches that the area is famous for. Reviews consistently praise the beauty of Grayton Beach, noting its shorter walking distance from the campground compared to some other nearby beaches like St. Andrews. The campground itself is described as being set in two small loops with mostly private campsites, suggesting a relatively intimate and natural setting. The presence of a Nature Trail within the park offers opportunities for exploring the local flora and fauna. However, one reviewer noted that a once pretty shell section of the trail appeared to be depleted due to heavy foot traffic. While the campground aims to keep the beaches dark for wildlife, this also creates an environment conducive to stargazing from campsites that are not heavily canopied by trees.

The "services" at Camp Grayton Beach State Park Campground include essential amenities for a comfortable stay. The campground offers campsites with full hookups, including 50 and 30 amp electrical service and sewer connections, which is a significant convenience, especially for RV campers. However, one reviewer pointed out that the sewer hookup is typically located at the very back of the site, potentially requiring an extra-long sewer hose. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table and a fire ring with a layover grill attachment, ideal for outdoor cooking. For laundry needs, a washer and dryer are available at the restroom/shower facilities for a cost of $2 per cycle. One of the bathhouses also features a water bottle refill station and a lending library, which are appreciated extras for a state park campground. While propane refill is not available on-site, a U-Haul location offering this service is located about 7 miles away. The campground also has a dump station for RVs, although its one-way loop road location may make it slightly inconvenient to access.

The "features" of Camp Grayton Beach State Park Campground include its proximity to the beautiful beach, the availability of full hookup campsites, and the generally quiet and private nature of the sites. The small loop road layout contributes to the peaceful atmosphere. The inclusion of a washer and dryer, water bottle refill station, and lending library in the bathhouses adds value and convenience for campers. The presence of a Nature Trail provides an opportunity for scenic walks. However, potential visitors with large RVs should be aware that the campground roads are described as narrow, and low-hanging branches and trees may pose challenges for navigating and accessing some sites. The park website indicates a maximum vehicle length of 40 feet, but reviews suggest that even rigs within this limit may find the entrance and some turns to be tight.

Regarding pet policies, Camp Grayton Beach State Park Campground is dog-friendly in the campground itself, with two dog pick-up stations provided. However, dogs are not allowed on the beach due to stickers in the sand that can harm their paws. There are also signs near the water warning of alligators, so it's crucial to keep pets away from the water's edge. There are no off-leash areas within the campground, and the only trash cans for pet waste are the dumpsters at the park entrance.

There is no camp store located within the campground. However, the Grayton General Store is conveniently located about 1 mile away, and a Publix grocery store is just a 5-minute drive, with a Walmart about 15 minutes away for more extensive shopping needs. An Amazon Locker is available at the UPS Store near the Publix for those expecting deliveries.

One negative aspect highlighted in the reviews is the initial interaction with the camp staff at check-in. One visitor reported a dismissive attitude regarding concerns about navigating a large RV through the narrow front gate. This suggests that while other staff (Rangers and workers) are described as friendly, the initial impression upon arrival might not be universally positive, particularly for those with larger vehicles.

The reservation process is conducted online, and the website is reported to be user-friendly. The cost per night, as indicated by one reviewer, totaled $48.14, which included a $30 base rate, a $7 utility fee, and a $6.70 reservation fee, plus taxes on these amounts. The reviewer noted that while the campground still offers good value for what you get, the breakdown of fees can be misleading for those staying only one night. The base rate alone is advertised as $30 per night.

Currently, no specific "promotional information" or discounts for local residents are mentioned in the provided reviews. To inquire about any potential seasonal specials, Florida resident discounts, or multi-night stay offers, it is recommended to contact Camp Grayton Beach State Park Campground directly at (850) 267-8300 or +1 850-267-8300. Given that it's a popular state park campground, especially during peak seasons, it's advisable to book well in advance through the online reservation system.

For local residents seeking a "camping near me" experience that combines access to a stunning beach with a generally quiet and well-equipped campground, Camp Grayton Beach State Park Campground is a strong contender. The availability of full hookups, laundry facilities, and the natural beauty of the area are significant draws. However, potential visitors with large RVs should be prepared for tight navigation and potential tree obstructions. Additionally, the initial check-in experience may vary. Despite these considerations, the proximity to Grayton Beach, the peaceful atmosphere, and the overall value make this campground a popular choice for those looking to enjoy the Gulf Coast of Florida. Booking in advance is highly recommended to secure a campsite at this sought-after location.
