Camp Joy Group Camping Introduce
For local users in search of exceptional 'group camping near me' opportunities, Camp Joy Group Camping, situated at 5303 Baptist Camp Rd, Apopka, FL 32712, presents an attractive option. With contact numbers (407) 254-1902 and +1 407-254-1902, this campground appears particularly well-suited for larger gatherings and those interested in water-based activities. Based on recent customer feedback, Camp Joy offers spacious sites and unique amenities, although potential visitors should also be aware of certain environmental factors.
One glowing review specifically highlighted "Camp Joy site B" as "amazing." The reviewer emphasized the sheer size of the site, noting it was "huge!" This is a significant advantage for local groups planning larger camping trips, as it suggests ample room for multiple tents, recreational activities, and spreading out comfortably. The rental of the pavilion at site B further enhances its appeal for groups. The pavilion is equipped with essential amenities such as "electricity, lights and fans," providing convenience and comfort, especially for evening gatherings or activities requiring power. The presence of "two fire pits at the site" is another valuable feature, offering opportunities for campfires, cooking, and creating a traditional camping atmosphere for larger groups.
The same reviewer mentioned hosting "approximately 40 campers in family units" at site B, underscoring the site's capacity to accommodate substantial numbers. The phrase "plenty of room to spread out" reinforces the idea that even with a large group, campers can enjoy a sense of space and not feel overcrowded. This makes Camp Joy a strong contender for local family reunions, church groups, school outings, or any other large gathering looking for a dedicated camping area.
However, the review also includes an important consideration regarding the natural environment: "The only downside is the biting gnats and ticks. Take proper precautions and you'll be fine!" This is a crucial piece of advice for anyone camping in Florida, particularly in more natural and potentially wooded areas. Local users familiar with the Florida climate will understand the importance of insect repellent and other protective measures. Campers should come prepared with insect sprays containing DEET or picaridin, consider wearing long sleeves and pants, especially during dawn and dusk when insects are most active, and take precautions against ticks, such as checking themselves and their gear regularly.
Another reviewer highlighted a unique feature of Camp Joy: its accessibility for launching paddleboards. They noted "Very reasonable pricing! On 5/24/23 only $3 (for 1-2 people)." This indicates that Camp Joy offers access to a waterway suitable for paddleboarding, and at a very affordable rate. This could be a significant draw for local water sports enthusiasts looking for a convenient launch point. The specific date and price suggest that there might be a fee associated with this service, and it would be wise for interested users to inquire about current pricing and any potential restrictions or requirements for launching watercraft.
The paddleboarding experience is further described as involving "Little bit of a hike to drop them in but once you were floating… it was well worth the hike!" This suggests that the launch point might not be directly adjacent to parking or the campsites, requiring a short walk with the equipment. However, the reward is a pleasant experience on the water, with the reviewer specifically mentioning "The emerald cut - up stream, roughly 1 mile to the Kelly Park bridge, and then an amazing float back 🥰." This paints a picture of a scenic paddle upstream to a well-known local landmark, Kelly Park bridge, followed by a relaxing float back to the launch point at Camp Joy. This feature positions Camp Joy not just as a campground but also as a gateway to enjoying the natural waterways of the Apopka area.
Considering these reviews, Camp Joy Group Camping offers a compelling package for local users seeking 'group camping near me' with the added benefit of water access. The spaciousness of at least site B, coupled with the pavilion amenities, makes it ideal for large gatherings. The affordable paddleboard launch provides an opportunity for recreational water activities. However, potential campers must be prepared for the presence of biting gnats and ticks by taking appropriate precautions.
To make the most of a visit to Camp Joy Group Camping, local users are advised to:
- When booking, inquire about the different campsites available, especially if the size and amenities of site B are desired. Confirm the availability and cost of renting the pavilion.
- Ask about the current pricing and procedures for launching paddleboards or other watercraft.
- Seek advice from the campground management or local sources about the best ways to protect against biting insects and ticks in the area.
- If planning to paddleboard, inquire about the distance and terrain of the hike to the launch point.
- For large groups, discuss any specific needs or accommodations that Camp Joy might be able to provide.
By considering the positive aspects highlighted in the reviews, such as the spacious sites and water access, along with the need for insect precautions, local camping enthusiasts can determine if Camp Joy Group Camping is the ideal location for their next group outdoor adventure in the Apopka area. Its focus on accommodating larger groups and providing access to local waterways distinguishes it as a potentially excellent choice for those searching within the 'camping near me' category for a group-oriented experience.

Jan 23, 2024 · Florida MailboxWow, this place is awesome! Not very crowded. Lot's of trails. Clean and the best part of it being a 15 min walk to Kelly Park Tubing area. If you have a big church group, this is good place for group camping.
Apr 08, 2022 · Charles ShepherdThe campground itself is absolutely wonderful, but the current camp host “Heather” is extremely confrontational & aggressive. The girls in the office are WONDERFUL, but the new camp host makes me question returning here. I hope something is done about this ASAP!
