Chewonki Campground Introduce
When searching for "camping near me" in the Wiscasset, Maine area, Chewonki Campground, located at 235 Chewonki Neck Rd, Wiscasset, ME 04578, USA, is one option to consider. They can be reached at (207) 882-7426 or their mobile number +1 207-882-7426 for inquiries and reservations. However, it's important to be aware of recent customer feedback regarding their pricing structure and policies.
Several recent reviews from individuals, including local residents, express significant concerns about the cost and fee structure at Chewonki Campground. One local reviewer explicitly stated they would "NEVER AGAIN" recommend this campground due to what they described as "so many hidden fees" that were "ridiculous." This reviewer highlighted specific instances, such as being charged extra to use the showers on top of the regular camping fees. Furthermore, they mentioned a $20 fee imposed on visitors, even those residing locally and not utilizing any of the campground's amenities, essentially equating to a charge for parking. This local resident expressed feeling "offended" by these surcharges and hidden costs.
Another reviewer echoed the sentiment of being overpriced, suggesting that alternative campsites located just five miles away offer better facilities without these additional hidden charges and provide closer proximity to various attractions, including shopping, ice cream shops, and restaurants. This perspective suggests that local users might find more value and convenience at nearby campgrounds.
In addition to concerns about pricing and fees, one camper who stayed overnight mentioned that the cost was significantly higher than what they usually spend at other campsites, even considering off-season discounts. They also noted the presence of "extra fees for a lot of stuff," contributing to the overall high cost. While this reviewer acknowledged that the campground was "definitely clean and nice," they also pointed out a perceived sense of being "always felt like I was being watched."
The same overnight camper also commented on the extensive list of rules, stating that instead of a "piece of paper," the number of regulations might have warranted a "book." They expressed doubt about wanting to stay for a full week under such conditions, suggesting that the rules might detract from the relaxed and enjoyable nature typically associated with camping. This raises a point for potential campers to consider regarding the balance between maintaining a well-ordered campground and fostering a sense of freedom and relaxation.
While the reviews do acknowledge that Chewonki Campground is clean and appears well-maintained, these positive aspects are overshadowed by the significant concerns raised about the pricing, hidden fees, and the potentially restrictive number of rules. For local users actively searching for "camping near me," it is crucial to weigh these negative experiences against any potential benefits the campground might offer.
Based on the available information, there is no indication of any specific promotional offers or discounts being advertised for Chewonki Campground. The emphasis in the recent feedback is primarily on the unexpected and potentially high costs associated with staying or even visiting the campground.
Considering the feedback, local users seeking "camping near me" might want to thoroughly inquire about all potential fees and rules before making a reservation at Chewonki Campground. It would be prudent to ask for a comprehensive breakdown of all charges, including those for amenities such as showers and for any potential visitors. Additionally, understanding the full scope of the campground's rules and regulations beforehand can help ensure a more satisfactory camping experience.
Furthermore, the suggestion from a reviewer to explore alternative campgrounds located just a short distance away warrants consideration. Investigating these nearby options could potentially lead to discovering campsites with more transparent pricing, better facilities, and a more relaxed atmosphere, as well as closer access to local attractions and conveniences that might enhance your camping trip.
In conclusion, while Chewonki Campground is located within a reasonable distance for local users searching for "camping near me" in Wiscasset, Maine, recent customer reviews highlight significant concerns regarding hidden fees, potentially high costs, and a possibly restrictive environment due to numerous rules. While cleanliness is noted as a positive aspect, prospective campers should be diligent in inquiring about all potential charges and regulations before booking a stay. Exploring alternative campgrounds in the vicinity might also be a worthwhile step to ensure a more enjoyable and cost-effective local camping experience.

Chewonki Campground Reviews
I had friends come into town from New York and I recommended their camp ground.NEVER AGAIN. They have so many hidden fees it was ridiculous. They charge you to take a shower on top of the camping fees.. And we had to pay $20 just to come visit them at their campsite. Not using any amenities at all. Due to the fact we live just down the street. Basically we had to pay to park our car. As a local from Wiscasset I am offended by there up charges and hidden fees. Not to mention that they are over priced when you can go 5 miles away to other campsites which have better facilities with no hidden charges and more to do within a couple of miles. I.E. attractions, shopping, ice cream shops, restaurants. Etc.WORSE RECOMMENDATION OF LIFE I HAVE GIVEN AND AM TRULY EMBARRASSED BY IT. NEVER CAMP AT THIS SITE.
Jul 13, 2024 · Jeronimo BartzI've stayed at a lot of campsites overnight yousually in the off-season you get a small discount here was very Costly more than double what I usually spend extra fees for a lot of stuff always felt like I was being watched Was definitely clean and nice but for the rules they should have just handed you a book not a piece of paper many rules to follow If I wanted a camp for the week I wouldn't do it here I don't think with the rules I would have made it a full week when you go camping you go to enjoy yourself not to be ruled
Sep 21, 2024 · John CraddockOur family has been coming here for over two decades almost every year. It is a wonderful, quiet, scenic, family friendly campground that I highly recommend. Pam and Ann are wonderful and the pool and bathroom facilities are always very clean. This year was a bit different with the loss of so many of their beautiful tree's but it was still just as enjoyable of a stay and our family was happy to be back for another year camping at Chewonki!
Aug 30, 2022 · Kristin GarabedianWhat a wonderful slice of heaven! The location was perfect for our family. Large salt water pool, quiet grounds in a picturesque setting. The family that owns the grounds are hard- working, honest and kind. This is the property that their home is also on- so the generosity they have demonstrated by their willingness to open it up for public enjoyment is not lost on me! They live on this property, but they do not make you feel like you're under their watchful eye. They have mastered being attentive yet not meddlesome. They have clear expectations, and yet they are not overbearing or rude in the conveyance of them. Yes, it isn't the least expensive, but you know the ol' adage "you get what you pay for"
Jun 23, 2023 · Leigh-Ann SteeberI just returned from a week-long vacation at Chewonki Campground in Wiscasset. This campground is what defines the coast of Maine for me. Beautifully landscaped sites, wonderful views, very quiet, an amazing saltwater pool, and the nicest campground owners period! The Saturday evening ice cream social was perfect! This is truly 'my happy place'. Thank you Pam, Ann and family. Can't wait for my next visit!
