Cider House Campground Introduce
For local camping enthusiasts exploring "camping near me" options in the Bouckville, NY area, Cider House Campground, located at 3570 Canal Rd, Bouckville, NY 13310, USA, presents a campground currently undergoing a significant transition under new ownership. While it has historically been a familiar camping spot for some, recent changes and future aspirations are shaping its identity. Existing reviews offer insights into both its past and present state, particularly highlighting the experience for tent campers.
The environment of Cider House Campground is described by a long-term visitor as having been "always good" over the past six summers. This suggests a potentially pleasant natural setting that has historically appealed to campers. The new owners, who took over late last summer, are reportedly bringing a "great vision for the future" and are already implementing improvements aimed at transforming the facility into a "destination camping experience." This indicates a positive outlook for the campground's long-term development and potential enhancement of its overall environment and amenities.
However, it's crucial for prospective tent campers to be aware of the current services and features, as detailed in a recent review specifically focused on tent camping. One significant positive aspect highlighted was the friendliness of the new owner, described as "very, very nice." Additionally, the price of $25 for tent camping was considered a "great price," making it an affordable option for budget-conscious campers.
Despite these positives, the review also pointed out several notable negatives that tent campers should be prepared for. A major drawback is the absence of picnic tables at the campsites, which the reviewer found "unheard of." This lack of a standard camping amenity could significantly impact the convenience and functionality of the tent camping experience, requiring campers to bring their own tables or manage without. Another notable issue was the need to "forage in the overgrowth/weeds" to find or create a fire ring. This suggests that designated and well-maintained fire rings may not be readily available at each tent site, potentially posing inconvenience and safety considerations.
The reviewer speculated that these two issues (lack of picnic tables and foraged fire rings) might be related to the mowing practices, suggesting a potential disconnect between grounds maintenance and the needs of tent campers. This highlights areas where improvements could significantly enhance the tent camping experience.
Furthermore, the "new bathrooms" were a point of concern. According to the review, these facilities are "covered in bugs because they have no ceilings and are open to the air." This open-air design could lead to hygiene issues and discomfort for users, particularly during warmer months when insect activity is higher. This is a significant factor to consider for campers who value clean and enclosed restroom facilities.
Another inconvenience for tent campers is the location of the showers, which were described as "a major hike from the tent sites." This distance could be particularly problematic at night, during inclement weather, or for campers with mobility issues. Easy access to shower facilities is often a key consideration for a comfortable camping experience.
While the review focused specifically on tent camping, a long-term visitor mentioned having stayed at Cider House Campground for six summers, implying that RV camping might also be accommodated. However, the specifics of RV sites, including hookups and amenities, were not detailed in the provided information. Therefore, RV campers should contact the campground directly to inquire about the availability and features of RV sites.
Given that the campground is under new ownership and actively undergoing improvements, the current conditions might be subject to change. The new owners' "great vision for the future" suggests that many of the current shortcomings, particularly those affecting tent campers, might be addressed as part of their ongoing efforts to enhance the facility. However, as of the time of the reviews, these limitations were present and should be considered by prospective campers.
No specific promotional information was included in the provided reviews. To inquire about any current specials, discounts, or the timeline for planned improvements, it is highly recommended to contact Cider House Campground directly at (315) 825-8477 or +1 315-825-8477. Speaking with the new owners will provide the most up-to-date information on the campground's current status, future plans, and any potential offers for local campers.
In conclusion, for local users searching for "camping near me" in Bouckville, NY, Cider House Campground presents a situation of ongoing transformation. While praised for its friendly new owner and affordable tent camping rates, current tent campers should be aware of the lack of picnic tables, the need to forage for fire rings, open-air bathrooms prone to bugs, and the distant showers. The campground has historically been a good option, and the new ownership's vision for the future suggests potential for significant improvements. However, prospective campers should weigh the current limitations against the affordable price and the potential for future enhancements. Direct communication with the owners is essential to get the most accurate picture of the current camping experience and any upcoming changes at Cider House Campground.

Cider House Campground Reviews
We have stayed here for six summers. This place was always good. New owners late last summer. They have a great vision for the future. So far improvements are really changing this facility for the better. This will be a destination camping experience in the future.
Jul 30, 2024 · Rich Dzialo**THIS APPLIES TO TENT CAMPING ONLY**The positives:a. Owner was very, very niceb. $25 for tent camping was a great priceThe Negatives:a. NO PICNIC TABLES for camp sites! Unheard of...b. You had to go forage in the overgrowth/weeds for your own fire ringc. The 2 complaints above are obviously because the owner that does the mowing doesn't want to deal with moving picnic tables or fire rings.d. The "new bathrooms" are covered in bugs because they have no ceilings and are open to the air;e. The showers are a major hike from the tent sites
Aug 03, 2024 · BRAD STARKEYThis campground was really clean, had amazing views, friendly owners and is even making more improvements for the future. We will definitely be staying here again.
Aug 04, 2024 · Patricia CohenVery well cared for campground. Nice sites, clean bathrooms, showers and laundry. Easy in and out. Friendly staff. It's our 2nd time here and I'm sure we'll be back. Shopping only 15 miles, but a few small stores closer. Big antique event in Aug and lots of shops all year.
Aug 07, 2023 · Debbi ZillWe have been coming here for about 5 yrs over Labor Day. Have rented out the 5th wheel campers. New owners took over just this weekend and are very nice people. Kids can play and have fun on the playground and ride bikes. We'll be back next Labor Day as usual.
