Stoney Pond Campground Introduce
For local adventurers seeking "camping near me" in the picturesque landscapes of Central New York, Stoney Pond Campground, located at Stony Pond Rd, Erieville, NY 13061, USA, presents a natural camping environment centered around Stoney Pond. This campground offers an accessible escape into nature for residents of Erieville and surrounding areas looking for outdoor recreation opportunities.
The environment of Stoney Pond Campground is likely characterized by the presence of Stoney Pond itself, which would serve as a focal point for various activities and contribute to the scenic beauty of the area. Campers can anticipate a setting that includes woodlands typical of upstate New York, potentially offering shade and opportunities for short hikes or nature walks around the pond. The reviews suggest that the location is beautiful, implying a natural and potentially tranquil setting that appeals to those looking to immerse themselves in the outdoors. The mention of a "loop" within the campground indicates a structured layout for campsites, likely accessible by vehicle.
Based on the limited review information, it's challenging to definitively outline the specific services and features offered at Stoney Pond Campground. However, we can infer some possibilities based on general camping norms and the user experiences shared. The fact that permits are required suggests an organized system managed perhaps by a local authority or the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), as mentioned in one of the reviews. This typically implies designated campsites, and potentially some level of basic amenities.
Common services at campgrounds often include access to potable water, though this is not explicitly stated. Restroom facilities, ranging from simple pit toilets to more developed flush toilets and possibly showers, might be available depending on the campground's infrastructure. Waste disposal areas are also a standard necessity. The mention of an RV being brought to a site indicates that at least some campsites are likely accessible and suitable for recreational vehicles, though specific hookups (electrical, water, sewer) are not confirmed.
Features of Stoney Pond Campground would naturally revolve around its namesake, Stoney Pond. This could include opportunities for fishing, non-motorized boating (canoeing, kayaking), or simply enjoying the waterfront views. The surrounding woodlands would likely offer a habitat for local wildlife, providing opportunities for wildlife viewing and nature photography. The potential for winter camping, as mentioned in one review, suggests that the campground might remain accessible during colder months, although specific preparations and vehicle requirements (4-wheel drive) are crucial due to potential snow and ice.
The user reviews provide some crucial, albeit mixed, insights into the potential experience at Stoney Pond Campground. One positive review highlights the "beautiful location" and offers a valuable tip for winter campers regarding the necessity of 4-wheel drive. This suggests that the natural environment is a key draw of the campground. However, another review details a "horrible experience" involving a double-booking issue, alleged threatening behavior from another group, and concerns about homeless individuals bothering campers. This negative feedback raises concerns about the management, site organization, and potentially the safety and security of the campground. The involvement of a ranger to verify permits suggests that there is some level of official oversight.
Promotional information for Stoney Pond Campground is not included in the provided text. Local users interested in potential discounts, seasonal offers, or any specific events hosted at the campground would need to seek information from official sources, such as a local parks and recreation website or by contacting the managing authority directly. Given the mention of donations to the DEC, it's possible that the campground is managed by or affiliated with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, and information might be available on their official website.
For local users considering Stoney Pond Campground for their "camping near me" needs, it is strongly recommended to seek up-to-date information from official sources or recent reviews before making a reservation. Inquiring about the current management practices, reservation system, available amenities, and any recent changes or advisories will be essential to ensure a positive experience. Understanding the specific rules and regulations of the campground, especially regarding permits and site assignments, is also crucial to avoid potential issues like the double-booking incident reported.
In conclusion, Stoney Pond Campground in Erieville, NY, offers a natural setting centered around Stoney Pond, potentially providing a scenic local camping option. While one review praises its beauty, another raises significant concerns about management and safety. Local users should exercise caution and actively seek current information from reliable sources to make an informed decision about camping at Stoney Pond Campground. Exploring official websites or contacting the managing authority directly will provide the most accurate details about the environment, services, features, and any relevant advisories or promotional offers for this local camping destination.

Stoney Pond Campground Reviews
Did a quick, one night winter camp here. Beautiful location. For anyone else thinking about camping here in the snow: make.sure you have.4-wheel drive and good tires. I wouldn't have made it back into the loop without a 4-low gearing. Can't speak to camping here in the warmer months as yet. Maybe come spring/summer.
Dec 23, 2022 · Rev. Beardman SamHorrible experience. We have a permit and our site was double booked. This guy showed up, Josh and his motels crew of multiple people threatening to pull our rv out. The ranger showed up and verified our permit and his but at this point we were packed and leaving. We stayed here once before and had no issue. This time there were homeless folks staying and bothering us and now this. Never again! And we made donations to our lovely DEC to stay until tomorrow!
