One enthusiastic camper described Forest Lake Campground as "wonderful" and praised its location "tucked between the hills of Truxton," highlighting the natural beauty and peaceful setting of the area. The review also noted the presence of many permanent residents, which often contributes to a stable and community-oriented atmosphere within a campground. Importantly, the staff received high praise, being described as "wonderful and friendly," which can significantly enhance the overall camping experience and make guests feel welcome.
Addressing a practical consideration for RV owners, the reviewer mentioned that their specific site lacked sewer hookups. However, they also noted the convenience of an easily accessible dump station for motorhomes, indicating that while some amenities might vary by site, the campground provides necessary facilities for RV maintenance. This is valuable information for those searching for "camping near me" with RVs.
Another reviewer with prior experience at Forest Lake Campground, having visited friends "way up top in the back" and stayed there two years prior, corroborated the positive aspects. They described the campground as "nice and quiet" and specifically highlighted the "very spacious sites" in comparison to state-run campgrounds. This spaciousness is a significant advantage, offering campers more room for their equipment and a greater sense of privacy and comfort. For those who value personal space during their outdoor getaways, this feature makes Forest Lake Campground an attractive option when considering "camping near me."
A major highlight of Forest Lake Campground is, as its name suggests, the "huge" lake. The reviewer, reflecting on their childhood, expressed that they "as a boy would have loved to fish that lake," underscoring its potential as a prime fishing spot. This suggests that the lake is a significant recreational asset, likely supporting a variety of fish species and providing opportunities for anglers of all ages. Beyond fishing, a separate mention of "swimming" in another part of the review confirms that the lake is also suitable for water-based recreation, making it a versatile destination for those looking for "camping near me" with opportunities to cool off and enjoy the water.
The ownership of Forest Lake Campground is also a point of positive feedback, with the "owners husband and wife team" being described as "very friendly." This personal touch in management often translates to a more caring and attentive experience for guests. Knowing that the campground is run by individuals who are invested in the well-being of their visitors can be a significant factor in choosing a "camping near me" location.
Interestingly, one reviewer made a point of addressing a negative one-star review, noting that the individual who posted it had a history of giving low ratings across multiple establishments. This suggests that the overwhelmingly positive sentiment from other reviewers should be given more weight. The five-star rating given by this particular reviewer was specifically for "quiet retreat, forest bathing, swimming, and fishing," encapsulating the core appeals of Forest Lake Campground. The term "forest bathing" (shinrin-yoku) implies that the wooded environment surrounding the campground offers a therapeutic and immersive natural experience, further enhancing its appeal as a tranquil escape.
In summary, Forest Lake Campground offers a compelling package for local users seeking "camping near me":
- A wonderful location nestled in the hills of Truxton, providing a scenic and peaceful environment.
- Spacious campsites, offering more room and privacy compared to some other campgrounds.
- Access to a large lake, ideal for fishing and swimming enthusiasts.

Forest Lake Campground Reviews
Wonderful campground tucked between the hills of Truxton. There were many permanent residents there and the staff were wonderful and friendly. I wish our site had sewer hookups, but we were able to drive our motorhome over to the dump station easily.
Aug 19, 2024 · jim pantasI visited friends way up top in the back and stayed there two years ago it was nice and quiet and they have very spacious sites compared to state run camp grounds. The lake is huge and I as a boy would have loved to fish that lake. The owners husband and wife team are very friendly. The guy that left a one-star review seems to have 5 reviews and he gave one stars to all but one. I give this place five stars for quiet retreat, forest bathing, swimming, and fishing. A campers delight.
May 08, 2023 · Brian GuyThis was our family's first camping trip and this was the perfect place and set up for us. Jean was the most amazing, friendly, helpful and kind person you'd want to encounter. My family absolutely adored her and she went above and beyond for us and our comfortability. Our site was awesome and we had the best time. Very family friendly and very reasonable as well. Our kids loved it so much they asked if we could move there and while that's not in the plans we will absolutely be planning a future trip back to Forest Lake Campground.
Sep 03, 2019 · Jessica PenaPlace is complete trash. Worst roads ever around campground and if you don't stop everytime to let the owners know you're there they race after you and decide to scream and yell at you (literally scream and yell). These are suppose to be church going people but treat people like dirt. Hate to see how they treat their wives in their household behind closed doors. If I could give it a negative stars I would after listening to the owner scream and yell at women coming to visit their family.Update: Now charging $5 PER PERSON NOT PER CAR just to visit for the day. I may only have left 5 reviews in my life but at least it's the truth and not some owner trying to inflate their GOOGLE review score 😅. Best part is they don't deny screaming at customers.
Jun 17, 2023 · james ripleyWe have been here a few times now and really enjoyed it.The campground is no frills. The playground is old, there is no swimming, many buildings are works in progress.. but somehow this place is just magic and the kids love it! Great big pond and open spaces to let their imagination run wild. The owners are super nice, and they have a great camp store.
