Yellow Lantern Kamp Grounds Introduce
For local residents in Cortland, New York, and the surrounding areas searching for "camping near me," Yellow Lantern Kamp Grounds, located at 1770 NY-13, Cortland, NY 13045, USA, offers a camping experience with aspects that have appealed to families, as well as some policies that potential visitors should be aware of. You can contact them at (607) 756-2959 or +1 607-756-2959 for inquiries and reservations. Recent customer reviews provide insights into the environment, services, and potential costs associated with staying at this campground.
The environment of Yellow Lantern Kamp Grounds is described by one returning family as "very quiet and peaceful," which can be a significant draw for local users seeking a relaxing getaway. The campground appears to be family-friendly, with amenities that cater to children, including a pool for swimming and a playground for active play. The mention of kids "riding their bikes" suggests that the grounds are spacious enough and safe for such activities. Another reviewer noted the "absolutely beautiful" nature of the campground area, indicating that the setting is aesthetically pleasing and contributes to a positive outdoor experience. For local campers looking for a tranquil and visually appealing environment with family-oriented facilities, Yellow Lantern Kamp Grounds seems to offer a potentially attractive setting.
The services at Yellow Lantern Kamp Grounds include essential campground provisions, such as campsites suitable for different types of camping (though not explicitly detailed), and recreational facilities like the pool and playground. The positive mention of the "very nice" lady working in the office suggests that the staff can be welcoming and helpful, particularly in accommodating last-minute needs, as one reviewer was thankful for securing a site late in the day. However, a significant service-related policy that potential local users should be aware of pertains to the use of electrical appliances. According to the campground rules and regulations shared by a reviewer, guests are required to inform the office of all electric heaters, air conditioners, and additional appliances. There is an "additional fee" for these services, and failure to report them can result in "duplicate charges." This policy is a crucial piece of information for local campers who rely on these appliances for comfort, especially during varying weather conditions in upstate New York.
The features of Yellow Lantern Kamp Grounds include the outdoor pool, which is a popular amenity for families, and the playground, providing a dedicated space for children's recreation. The quiet and peaceful atmosphere can also be considered a key feature, appealing to those seeking a relaxing camping experience. However, the policy regarding electrical appliances introduces a financial consideration that might be perceived as a drawback by some. The reviewer who mentioned this policy questioned the value of paying $50 per night for a campsite and then facing additional fees for using essential comfort appliances like an air conditioner on a warm day or a heater when the temperature drops (as it did to 46° the morning after their $50 stay). This suggests that while the campground offers basic amenities and a pleasant environment, the cost of using personal electrical appliances could significantly increase the overall expense for local campers who require them.
Promotional information is not explicitly present in the provided reviews. The positive experiences shared by the returning family can be seen as an indirect form of promotion, highlighting the enjoyable times they've had at Yellow Lantern Kamp Grounds over three years. However, the detailed account of the electrical appliance fee policy serves as a cautionary note that could influence a local user's decision. The reviewer who felt the $50 campsite fee was high, especially considering the potential for additional charges for comfort appliances, essentially suggested that local campers might find more cost-effective alternatives elsewhere. Therefore, while past positive experiences exist, potential new visitors should be fully aware of the pricing structure, including any additional fees for services they might need.
In conclusion, for local residents in the Cortland, NY area looking for "camping near me," Yellow Lantern Kamp Grounds offers a quiet and peaceful environment with family-friendly features like a pool and playground. The staff can be friendly and accommodating. However, a critical aspect to consider is the campground's policy regarding additional fees for the use of electric heaters, air conditioners, and other appliances, which can significantly increase the cost of a stay. Local users are advised to inquire about these fees upfront to fully understand the potential expenses involved. While some families have had positive experiences and return annually, the pricing structure and the additional charges for electrical use are important factors for local campers to weigh when considering Yellow Lantern Kamp Grounds for their next outdoor adventure.

Yellow Lantern Kamp Grounds Reviews
We had a great experience as a family at the yellow lantern. This is our 3rd year camping there! The kids enjoyed playing in the pool, riding their bikes and playing on the playground. It was a very quiet and peaceful campground. Thank you for a wonderful time!
Aug 13, 2024 · Sarah ScorseWe were so thankful to get a site around 5:00 p.m. The very night that we needed it. The campground area is absolutely beautiful. The lady that works in the office was very nice! However, when we got the rules and the regulations, we discovered that number 20 says inform office of all electric heaters and air conditioners as well as additional appliances. There is an additional fee for these services. Failure to report will result in duplicate charges. I have never heard of paying $50 a night for a campsite and not being able to use your air conditioner or your heater. The next morning it was 46°. Why did we spend $50 when we could have boondock somewhere? Just a warning, you are paying $50 just to run your lights! You might as well pull up at Walmart, so you can save your $50.
Aug 23, 2024 · Kayleen SmithThe Yellow Lantern Kamp Ground is family friendly, quiet, and my kids feel comfortable there. We have camped there 2 summers now. Jul 06, 2024 · Vero YorkieI stayed for a leisurely eight days at Yellow Lantern Campground. The location is quiet, off the Interstate, on 40 acres outside of Cortland, NY.The campground is a beautiful park environment, mowed, edged, clean. Tall trees are throughout. This is not a dirt and gravel campground. The owners keep it quiet by restricting visitors...only registered guests allowed in, so no drive throughs. Guests are not invited to the pool. There were children and families camping throughout. Everyone was respectful, pleasant company.Sites were grassy with gravel to park on, and relatively flat and level. The main loop road is blacktop, others are graded gravel. My site had 30 amp, but 50 amp is available. Campground water is crystal clear and tastes good, but I still used my filter for city water hookup from habit. My site has sewer. There is a dump site easily accessible from both sides, inside the exit gate.Fee for full hookup was $55.00 per night, with a $50 air conditioner fee, and a $10 refundable electric gate card. There are monthly rates, but not weekly rates.Would I recommend this to my family? Yes. If passing through central NY, I would stay again happily.
