Clearwater Campground Introduce
Looking for "camping near me" in the Ortonville, Michigan area? Clearwater Campground, located at 1140 S Ortonville Rd, Ortonville, MI 48462, offers a family-owned camping experience with a variety of accommodation options. You can reach them at (248) 627-3820 or their mobile number +1 248-627-3820 to inquire about availability and make reservations.
Clearwater Campground has garnered positive feedback, particularly regarding its welcoming atmosphere and caring owners. One future guest, who had to cancel a cabin booking due to unforeseen circumstances, was deeply impressed by the owner Micki's understanding and kindness. They expressed a strong desire to return, highlighting the owner's genuine care for the campground and its guests. This personal touch often distinguishes family-owned establishments and suggests a commitment to guest satisfaction that local "camping near me" seekers might appreciate.
A unique and memorable feature of Clearwater Campground, explicitly mentioned by a reviewer, is the presence of peacocks. These vibrant birds add a distinctive element to the campground's environment and are located near a petting zoo, which could be a delightful attraction for families and animal lovers. This unexpected wildlife encounter sets Clearwater Campground apart from more conventional "camping near me" options and offers a potentially engaging experience for visitors.
Clearwater Campground caters to various camping preferences, offering RV sites, cabin rentals, and rustic tent camping areas. While the reviewer who tent camped noted that the rustic sites on the opposite side of the property were adequate with level platforms for tents, they also pointed out some potential drawbacks. These included uneven ground at some adjacent sites and limited shade during hotter months. It's important for those considering tent camping to be aware of these conditions, especially during the peak summer season. However, the availability of rustic sites at a reasonable price point ($25 at the time of the review) provides an affordable "camping near me" option for budget-conscious travelers.
The same reviewer mentioned that the check-in process was smooth, but navigating the campground layout and road names could be slightly confusing initially. However, they were able to find their designated camping area without significant issues. This suggests that while the layout might require a bit of initial orientation, it doesn't detract significantly from the overall experience.
A significant concern raised by the tent camper was the noise from the peacocks, particularly their early morning calls, which disrupted sleep. The rustic campsites were located approximately 100-150 feet from the petting zoo where the peacocks resided, and the elevated position of the zoo amplified the sound. This is a crucial factor for light sleepers considering the rustic tent sites. While the peacocks are a unique attraction, their natural vocalizations might impact the tranquility of the camping experience, especially in the areas closest to them.
It's worth noting that the reviewer understood that Clearwater Campground primarily caters to RVs and campers, with a significant number of trailers and potentially non-permanent homes on the property. This suggests a well-established infrastructure for RVs, likely including hookups and other necessary amenities. Tent campers, particularly those in the rustic sites, might have a more basic experience but still have access to the amenities located on the main side of the property.

Clearwater Campground Reviews
I booked the large cabin for Sept 20th in May. My party got COVID and had to cancel 3 days before we were staying. These guys are so nice and caring. I wish we were able to stay. The season is over and I will tell you what. We will be back for sure, This place is very nice and family-owned the owner Micki is very nice and you can tell she cares for her place. I HIGHLY recommend to stay here. I can't wait to stay next year.
Sep 26, 2024 · Kelli GI'll just start by saying the #1 reason for my rating is: peacocks! And if you're considering tent camping please read!We were in town for a concert and tent camped early May at one of the rustic campsites - actually located on the opposite side of the property, away from all the pretty stuff I see all of the other reviews mention. There's a level, natural 'platform' with plenty of room for two well-spaced tents (room to spare) and is actually pretty nice. However, we noticed the other patch of sites across the gravel road are on relatively uneven ground and there's only one or two trees to provide shade in the hot summer months.Check in went just fine, although the map and general layout/road names were a little confusing to navigate. No big deal, we figured out where to camp and set up, but pretty quickly we heard the shrill and distinct screech of peacock (sometimes several at once, look it up if you're unfamiliar), this came from the petting zoo within ~100-150 feet of all rustic campsites and on a slope placing it above everything. We both were immediately a little concerned, but oh well, it was only $25 and we figured they would go to sleep, right? Oh well, we were leaving for the concert and wouldn't be back until dark and immediately tuck in for bed.We were wrong about them sleeping. Neither of us had any good amount of sleep, 3 consecutive hours at best - the startling calls of those awful peacocks woke us up every few hours. At 7am we had enough 'sleep' to drive the 4 hours home.I understand campgrounds like these mostly cater to RV's/Campers (and in this case a lot of trailers/non-permanent homes), I also understand it's only $25, and we're expected to take advantage of the amenities on the other side of the property, but in our case the rustic campsites felt like they get the short end of the stick. At an absolute minimum we needed some sleep and we didn't get it.
Jun 29, 2024 · James Thomas IIIWhat a gem of a campground! I have lived the majority of my life in Ortonville, MI., This is our first time camping here. This campground is absolutely beautiful from the sandy beach lake, fishing docks, paddle boats, serene and well manicured walking path around the lake with a dog dock and swimming area, many shady trees throughout the campground, a camp store that is unique in its self but has most anything you would need including small kid pools for your little one or fur babies! Laundry facilities with 8 washer and dryers that work great, and a bath house that is kept very clean. This family campground is managed by the family they are so friendly and accommodating, it is like you are a part of their family from the moment you arrive, unreal!! The location is conveniently located on M-15, 12 minute drive to I-75. If you are looking for a campground that is family friendly, fur baby welcoming, clean, and treat you like family, this is a must stay. We have a 44' fifth wheel with an 8' deck, they have sites with pads, gravel, and full hook up to boot. They do book out quickly for the the season, a testament to the how wonderful ClearWater Campground is. They also have rental cabins large enough to sleep 8 comfortably. Lots of activities for the both the adults and children thru-ought the camping season.
