Covered Wagon Camp Resort Introduce
Looking for "camping near me" in the Ottawa Lake, Michigan area that caters to the whole family? Consider Covered Wagon Camp Resort, located at 5639 St Anthony Rd, Ottawa Lake, MI 49267, USA. You can reach them at (734) 856-3058 or their mobile number, +1 734-856-3058, to learn more about what this campground offers for local users seeking a getaway.
Based on the reviews from real customers, Covered Wagon Camp Resort presents a mixed experience. One reviewer enthusiastically calls it a "hidden gem," highlighting its quiet and friendly atmosphere suitable for families. This positive review emphasizes the variety of weekend activities for children, a "very well taken care of" pool, a pond for swimming and fishing, and enjoyable tractor and train rides specifically for kids. This customer concluded that it's an "overall a great getaway for family and friends," suggesting a strong focus on creating a memorable family camping experience.
In contrast, another reviewer had a less favorable experience. They noted that the campground's proximity to the freeway resulted in "very loud" traffic noise. This could be a significant factor for those seeking a truly peaceful and quiet natural retreat. Additionally, this reviewer found the bathroom to be "not pleasant" and, despite the campground supposedly just opening for the season at the time of their visit, they indicated they would not be returning. This raises concerns about the cleanliness and upkeep of the facilities.
Furthermore, the negative review mentioned "sticky stuff everywhere from the trees," which made it necessary to frequently clean their dogs' feet and even required scrubbing the bottom of their shoes upon returning home. This suggests that while the natural tree cover might provide shade, it could also lead to a messy environment depending on the time of year and the types of trees present.
Considering these contrasting views, local users searching for "camping near me" should weigh the potential benefits highlighted by the positive review against the drawbacks mentioned in the negative one. Let's delve deeper into the environment, services, and features that can be gleaned from these comments.
Environment: The positive review suggests a pleasant environment overall, with a pond for swimming and fishing, implying some natural water features. However, the negative review points out a significant drawback: the loud traffic noise due to its proximity to a freeway. The "sticky stuff from the trees" also indicates a heavily wooded area, which could be appealing for shade but less so for cleanliness.
Services and Features (from positive review):
- Weekend activities specifically for kids.
- A well-maintained swimming pool.
- A pond suitable for swimming.
- A section of the pond designated for fishing.
- Tractor rides for children.
- A "cute little train ride" for children.
The negative review, on the other hand, raises concerns about the cleanliness of the bathrooms.
Based on this, Covered Wagon Camp Resort seems to focus on providing family-oriented recreational activities. The inclusion of a pool, swimming pond, fishing area, and dedicated kids' rides suggests that it aims to be a destination where families can stay entertained. The mention of weekend activities further supports this idea, implying that there's a schedule of events to engage children.
However, the significant issue of freeway noise cannot be overlooked for those prioritizing a tranquil camping experience. Similarly, the unpleasant bathroom conditions reported by one reviewer are a serious consideration for comfort and hygiene.
As for promotional information, the positive review itself acts as a strong endorsement for families looking for a fun-filled camping trip with plenty of activities for children. The "hidden gem" description implies that it might offer a unique or particularly enjoyable experience compared to other campgrounds in the area.
For local users in the Ottawa Lake area considering "camping near me," Covered Wagon Camp Resort presents itself as a place with numerous family-friendly amenities. If you are traveling with children and value on-site activities like swimming, fishing, and rides, this could be a significant draw. The well-maintained pool is another attractive feature, especially during warmer months.
However, it is crucial to be aware of the potential downsides. The loud traffic noise from the nearby freeway could detract from the peacefulness of the camping experience. Additionally, the reported issues with bathroom cleanliness are a concern that potential visitors should consider. The sticky residue from trees might also be an inconvenience, particularly for those traveling with pets.
To get a more balanced perspective, local users might want to inquire directly with the campground about recent improvements to facilities, the level of traffic noise at different campsites, and any measures taken to address the tree sap issue. Calling them at the provided phone numbers would be the best way to obtain up-to-date information.
In conclusion, Covered Wagon Camp Resort offers a range of appealing features for families, particularly those with children, including a pool, swimming/fishing pond, and unique kids' activities like tractor and train rides. However, potential guests should be aware of the reported drawbacks of freeway noise and potentially unpleasant bathroom conditions. For those in the "camping near me" category around Ottawa Lake, MI, this campground warrants further investigation based on your personal priorities for a camping experience. If family-oriented activities are high on your list and you are less sensitive to traffic noise, it might be worth a visit. Conversely, if peace and quiet and pristine facilities are paramount, you might want to inquire further or consider other options.

Covered Wagon Camp Resort Reviews
This campground is a hidden gem. Quiet and friendly for the whole family. Many different activities for the kids each and every weekend. They have a pool that is very well taken care of. There is also a pond where you can swim and a section that you can fish as well. They have tractor ride and a cute little train ride for the kids. Overall a great getaway for family and friends.
Apr 24, 2025 · marc vivianWas on freeway so traffic noise is very loud. The bathroom wasn't pleasant. They said they were just opening but not going back. There is sticky stuff everywhere from the trees. Had to keep cleaning dogs' feet. It was awful. Had to scrub bottom of my shoes when I got home. Not a hotel, this is a campground.
Apr 25, 2025 · Martha LanningNot fancy, but comfy and quiet. Close to town yet “country/outdoor” feel. Staff friendly and helpful. Pool , restrooms and laundry room available.Hubby up here working and one of very few still open during winter that he could find a spot to rest his head and call home.My only issue is the laundry facilities need a little work/updates; but available if need. Handy when yours broke and not available.Beautiful pond and play areas for the kids and family & Pet friendly!
Jul 02, 2024 · Gypsygurl On the GoWe are seasonal campers here. The camp is showing great improvement since we started 2 seasons ago. Still something’s need up dating and the should open the arcade again. I would like to see them stop letting non campers use the pool. And stop charging Seasonals to use the put put. All in all great place. Great people
Aug 10, 2024 · Scott SHUPPWe've camped here a number of times, and we love it. There are activities for the kids in the pavilion, and they love swimming in the pond and the pool. Our dogs are welcome and the other campers are always friendly.
