Monroe Co. / Toledo North KOA Holiday Introduce
For local users in the Monroe, Michigan and Toledo, Ohio areas searching for "camping near me," Monroe Co. / Toledo North KOA Holiday, located at 15600 Tunnicliffe Rd, Petersburg, MI 49270, USA, presents itself as a campground with a history of positive experiences for some visitors, though recent reviews indicate potential areas of concern that prospective campers should be aware of. You can contact them at (734) 856-4972 or +1 734-856-4972 for inquiries and reservations.
One long-term visitor mentioned having "staying here for years" and that it's "usually a really good time," indicating a past history of positive experiences at this KOA. This suggests that the campground may have previously offered a higher standard of service and maintenance. The same reviewer, however, noted a significant decline in their recent experience, stating that "the bathrooms were not kept" and that "the staff isn’t as nice as they used to be." This points to potential inconsistencies in the upkeep of facilities and the quality of customer service, which could impact the overall camping experience for new and returning visitors alike.
Adding to concerns about the facilities, the arcade room was reported to be malfunctioning. According to a reviewer, "the arcade room doesn’t work and when it eats money they will tell you there is nothing they could do." This lack of functionality and the reported unhelpful response from staff regarding lost money could be disappointing for families and individuals looking to enjoy this amenity. It serves as a warning to potential guests about the reliability of the arcade facilities.
A particularly serious issue raised in the reviews pertains to the condition of the rental cabins. One guest shared a distressing experience of renting a cabin for a weekend and subsequently discovering bedbugs. They recounted waking up "covered in bites" and finding bedbugs in their clothing and bedding after returning home. The reviewer also expressed dissatisfaction with the response received when reporting the incident, stating that the staff member on the phone seemed "rushed and bothered" and offered no empathy or apology. This lack of adequate response to a significant health and hygiene concern is a serious red flag for anyone considering renting a cabin at this location. The affected guest also detailed the extensive and costly measures they had to take to treat their home and vehicle, underscoring the potential severity of a bedbug infestation.
Despite these significant negative experiences, the campground does appear to offer some positive aspects. The same reviewer who reported the bedbug issue acknowledged that "the activities and location are great, especially trick or treating with the kids." This suggests that the campground may organize engaging activities, particularly around holidays like Halloween, which can be a draw for families. The mention of a "trick or treating" event implies a family-friendly atmosphere and a sense of community during certain times of the year.
Furthermore, one long-term visitor specifically praised "the older gentleman at the store" as "still the nicest guy ever." This positive feedback about a specific staff member indicates that there may still be some friendly and helpful individuals working at the campground, which could contribute positively to some guests' experiences. However, this single positive comment is contrasted with the negative feedback regarding the general staff attitude mentioned by another reviewer.
Based on the available reviews, it is difficult to provide a uniformly positive introduction to Monroe Co. / Toledo North KOA Holiday. While it may offer a convenient location for those in the Monroe and Toledo North areas seeking "camping near me," and it appears to have some appealing features like planned activities, potential visitors must weigh these against the serious concerns raised regarding the cleanliness and maintenance of the bathrooms, the functionality of the arcade, and, most importantly, the reported presence of bedbugs in the cabins and the unsatisfactory response to this issue from the staff.
For local users considering this KOA, it would be prudent to inquire specifically about the current status of the cabins and the measures the management has taken to address the bedbug issue. It would also be wise to seek more recent reviews from other campers to get a broader understanding of the current conditions and service levels. While the location and activities might be attractive, the potential risks associated with the cabins, as highlighted in the reviews, cannot be ignored.
Regarding promotional information, the provided data does not include any specific current promotions or discounts. KOA campgrounds often have various membership programs and seasonal offers, so it would be advisable for interested local users to check the official KOA website or contact Monroe Co. / Toledo North KOA Holiday directly to inquire about any ongoing specials or loyalty programs that might be available. However, given the recent negative feedback, potential campers should prioritize addressing the reported issues before being swayed by any promotional offers.
In conclusion, Monroe Co. / Toledo North KOA Holiday offers a location that may be convenient for those seeking "camping near me" in the Monroe and Toledo North areas, and it appears to have some family-friendly activities. However, recent customer reviews have raised significant concerns regarding the cleanliness of bathrooms, the functionality of the arcade, and, most alarmingly, the presence of bedbugs in the rental cabins and a perceived lack of adequate response from the management to this serious issue. While there are some mentions of positive past experiences and a friendly staff member at the store, potential local users should proceed with caution, thoroughly investigate the current conditions, especially regarding the cabins, and consider recent reviews before making a booking.

We have been staying here for years and it’s usually a really good time. This weekends experience was quite different. The bathrooms were not kept and the staff isn’t as nice as they used to be. I will say the older gentleman at the store is still the nicest guy ever. Also, the arcade room doesn’t work and when it eats money they will tell you there is nothing they could do. That was disheartening so just a warning not to chance the game room!
Oct 20, 2024 · sara LynnBeware of bedbugs in the cabins! We had a great trip making great memories here! Unfortunately, we made some bad memories too. We rented a cabin here for the weekend. My wife and I woke up covered in bites. We checked our clothing and bedding and found bedbugs once we got home, after realizing these were not flea bites. I've never experienced bed bugs so I was ignorant to the signs. I called to report the incident and the lady on the phone just seemed rushed and bothered by my call. No empathy, no apology, no how can we help, just I'll let management know and have a good day. Our house is now to be chemically treated, our Navigator chemically treated and I am spending the day resisting the urge to scratch my bump covered body at the laundromat. Good day indeed. I hope everyone reading this has a better result than us, just wanted to spread the word so no one else has to experience this. The activities and location are great, especially trick or treating with the kids. I just can not recommend their cabins.
Oct 07, 2024 · Dakota ThomsonVery nice folks and shop owners. Very accommodating. They rent out bikes for kids, row boats, paddle boats, and a few other things for 8 bucks for a half hour, which I think is a great price. With how hot it was when we were there, it was very unlikely we would have lasted longer than a half hour lol. They were also more than willing to offer refunds, trades etc for when complications arose which affected our ability to use the amenities they offer. We traded one service for a bundle of wood which was actually very nice of them. The location was also perfect for beer runs and getting food, snacks, etc. And the park was very well cared for and hazards for kids were addressed very steadfast. Overall, even though the park was a little more kid oriented than I would have preferred, it was the time I got to spend with my family that was the most cherished part of our getaway. We will definitely be revisiting in the future.
Jun 27, 2024 · Jacob PohlabelOverall I would say the weekend was a positive experience. However, with so many empty sites the weekend we were there, it would have been nice to be placed in a site that wasn't purely mud (many sites with grass were empty). The staff is extremely nice and helpful with anything you may need, and there are a lot of fun things for the kids like a playground, water slide, and basketball and volleyball courts. There were also activities throughout the weekend for the kids, and I believe they change it up a bit each weekend. Pets are allowed for an additional fee, and must be kept on a leash/lead. They do, however, have a small fenced in dog park area to let them off the leash and run around a bit. There is a snack shack they has free pancakes in the morning, and have various other offerings throughout the day like hot dogs and pretzels. Lastly, the swimming area is now just a big sand area, not sure if you're even allowed in there or not.
Jul 09, 2024 · Tyler LaGrangeFirst time camping at this KOA. The cabin we rented was great. Clean, comfy. We got one with a bathroom. Had a shower and toliet. The sink was outside the bathroom like a mini kitchen with a microwave, dishes, dish soap, coffee maker. Beds were comfy. Air was nice. As far as things to do outside the cabin...it appears they filled in the water area they had other than a 3ft pool that looked dirty and a bit run down. We had a teen and were hoping to have at least the water available for swimming. They have an area for fishing. The area we were in was by the expressway but didn't bother us. Probably because the air. We were able to take our dog so that was a huge plus for us. I thin the campground could use some updates.
