Crown Point Campground Introduce
For local users in New York and Vermont seeking a "camping near me" experience with a blend of natural beauty and historical significance, Crown Point Campground, located at 784 Bridge Rd, Crown Point, NY 12928, USA, offers a compelling option. Situated on the banks of the majestic Lake Champlain and nestled below the iconic Crown Point Bridge, this small campground provides a unique setting for a relaxing and engaging outdoor getaway. For inquiries and reservations, you can contact them at (518) 597-3603 or +1 518-597-3603.
The environment of Crown Point Campground is a significant draw, as highlighted by multiple positive reviews. Its location directly on the shores of Lake Champlain offers stunning waterfront views and easy access to the lake for various activities. The campground is described as being nestled below the beautiful Crown Point Bridge, adding a picturesque element to the scenery. While only one campsite reportedly offers a direct lake view, the proximity to the water is a general advantage for all campers. The grounds are noted for being well-kept, indicating a commitment to maintaining a pleasant outdoor environment. Campers can choose between spacious sites, most of which are level, and there is a mix of both shaded and exposed sites to accommodate different preferences for sun or shade.
Crown Point Campground offers a range of services and features aimed at providing a comfortable and enjoyable camping experience. The staff is consistently praised for being "beyond friendly" and always willing to assist with any questions, contributing significantly to a positive atmosphere. For recreational activities, the campground features a pier, offering a dedicated space for fishing or simply enjoying the tranquility of the lake and stargazing at night. Families with children will appreciate the presence of a playground on the grounds. Essential amenities include potable water available throughout the campground. While firewood is available for purchase on-site, it is noted to be on the pricier side at $14 for a small bundle that burns quickly. Ice is also sold at a reasonable price of $3 per bag. Importantly, it is explicitly mentioned that the campground does not offer electricity or a dump station, which is a crucial consideration for RV campers and those relying on electrical power.
A unique feature of staying at Crown Point Campground is that the campground admission includes access to two significant local attractions: the Crown Point Lighthouse and the Fort Crown Point historical site. The Fort Crown Point site is described as "very well done and interesting," offering campers a valuable opportunity to explore the rich history of the area without additional cost. This integration of camping with cultural and historical experiences sets Crown Point Campground apart. Furthermore, for those looking for dining options, a highly recommended breakfast spot is located on the Vermont side of the bridge, easily accessible from the campground.
For connectivity, one reviewer noted that with a WeBoost antenna, they were able to get enough Verizon signal to stream, which could be a consideration for those needing to stay connected. However, this is not a campground-provided service and relies on individual equipment and carrier signal strength in the area.
Addressing areas for potential improvement, multiple reviewers point out that the bathrooms and shower facilities are dated. Specifically, the shower temperature is a recurring issue, described as "lukewarm at best" and even "brrrrr" by one camper, suggesting that hot showers are not reliably available. This is an important factor for potential guests who prioritize comfortable bathing facilities.
Considering the platform category "camping near me," Crown Point Campground offers a distinct experience due to its lakeside location on Lake Champlain and the included access to historical sites. Its small size contributes to a potentially more intimate and peaceful camping environment. The friendly staff and well-kept grounds are significant positives. However, the lack of electricity and a dump station, as well as the issues with lukewarm showers, are important limitations to consider, especially for RVers or those accustomed to full hookups. The cost of firewood is also a point to note for budget-conscious campers.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information mentioned in the provided reviews. However, the inclusion of admission to the Crown Point Lighthouse and Fort Crown Point historical site with the camping fee can be seen as a value-added benefit. For local users interested in a lakeside camping experience with historical exploration opportunities, this inclusion might serve as a compelling reason to choose Crown Point Campground. To inquire about any seasonal promotions or discounts, it is advisable to contact the campground directly.
In conclusion, Crown Point Campground offers a unique "camping near me" experience on the shores of Lake Champlain, combining natural beauty with historical access. The friendly staff, well-maintained grounds, and the inclusion of entry to the Crown Point Lighthouse and Fort Crown Point are significant advantages. However, potential campers should be aware that the campground does not offer electricity or a dump station, and the bathroom/shower facilities are dated with reports of lukewarm showers. The cost of firewood is also relatively high. For those prioritizing a scenic lakeside location and historical exploration over full amenities, Crown Point Campground remains a worthwhile option to consider in the Crown Point, NY, area. For the most up-to-date information on rates and any potential promotions, please contact the campground directly.

Crown Point Campground Reviews
My second time here and my wife's first. She loved the campgrounds, so much so that we will be booking Labor Day 2025 as soon as we are able to. The staff is beyond friendly and always able to answer any questions we had. They really take care of the grounds here. We love the fact that it's a small campground. The pier offers a place to fish or just go stare at the stars. Firewood is on the expensive side, $14 for 6 or 7 pieces of wood that burn quickly. Ice is reasonable at $3 a bag. The one thing I would suggest is updated bathrooms/shower facilities. Showers were like warm at best. They have a playground for the kids. Thanks for a great Labor Day weekend. See you next year!!!!
Sep 04, 2024 · Richard MaxwellVery nice campground on the banks of Lake Champlain nestled below the beautiful Crown Point Bridge. The spacious sites are mostly level, but only one actually has a lake view. There are both shaded and exposed sites. There is potable water in the campground, but no electricity OR dump station. The bathrooms are dated but very clean. The showers were lukewarm AT BEST…. Brrrrr. Campground admission gives admission to the Crown Point Lighthouse and the very well done and interesting Fort Crown Point historical site. There’s a great breakfast joint on the VT end of the bridge. 🥓🍳🥞. With it WeBoost antenna we had enough Verizon signal to stream.
Sep 20, 2022 · Lisa K.This is a great location. The Campground itself is pleasant and clean, with a lot of grassy areas. Not much in the way of privacy though. But I think the real attraction here is the history and points of interest within walking distance. The lighthouse you see in photos is a very short walk from your campsite, with great views of the lake and bridge from there. You have the bridge itself you can walk across(to Vermont), with some pretty spectacular views of the area. Directly across the road from the campground are the Fort Crown Point ruins, which are amazing to walk into and experience. I highly recommend. Overall a decent campground with a lot of interesting history.
Sep 12, 2020 · Kyle PattonWe enjoyed our stay here for the weekend and thought it was an interesting place because it has both the lighthouse and historical site on the grounds. Our site was nicely wooded but fairly close to neighbors and a little uneven. Not much here for recreation unless you fish or have a boat. We wished it had water access for swimming.
Aug 15, 2022 · Mark WoolleyTook a weekend in the RV. We “Boondocked”😬. No hook ups and didn’t need just for a two day getaway. We had a site that looked across the Road to Lake Champlain Bridge. You can see on the horizon the remnants of the chimneys of the historic Forts. The site was so peaceful you could hear the crickets and peepers at night as you watched the sun setting over the Adirondacks of Northern NY. Like the peace and quiet so much we booked a return trip before end of September.
