Amity Campground Introduce
Looking for a serene camping destination in the "camping near me" category? Consider Amity Campground, located at 1001 Co Rd 393, Lanett, AL 36863, USA. With phone numbers (334) 499-2404 and +1 334-499-2404, this campground has seemingly been a cherished spot for many, offering the promise of a peaceful retreat. However, recent feedback suggests a mixed experience, particularly concerning the management at the gate.
One long-time visitor, who has been camping at Amity for over 20 years and accumulated "thousands of great memories," expressed disappointment with the current gate personnel, describing them as "plan rude." This negative encounter has unfortunately led them to consider finding a new camping location, highlighting the significant impact of customer service on the overall camping experience.
Another recent visitor echoed the sentiment regarding the campground's natural beauty, describing it as "gorgeous, peaceful," and one of their "favorite vacations." This positive initial impression underscores the inherent appeal of Amity Campground's environment. The tranquility and scenic beauty seem to be key attractions for those seeking a relaxing getaway in nature. This visitor mentioned it was their first time at Amity and indicated it could have been a 5-star experience were it not for issues encountered with the gate staff.
The primary concern raised in the reviews revolves around the demeanor of the lady working at the gate. She was described as "possibly the angriest person I’ve ever met," with interactions ranging from check-in to instances of leaving and returning to the campground being marred by her rudeness. Specific examples include her being critical of parking, check-in procedures, and even the placement of a park pass. In one instance, she reportedly yelled at a 53-year-old woman and her 63-year-old husband for riding their bikes to take a picture of the campground sign, citing expectations of high traffic for check-in and check-out.
Adding to the negative interactions, the same visitor recounted an incident where the gatekeeper's husband stopped them upon their return and insisted they were required to wear helmets while riding bikes within the campground. The reviewer pointed out that this is not a state law in Alabama and was not posted as a rule within the park. Having camped at numerous Corp of Engineer campgrounds previously without such a requirement, they found this interaction unwarranted. While they chose not to argue, they opted to avoid the gate personnel for the remainder of their stay.
This feedback collectively suggests that while Amity Campground may offer a "gorgeous" and "peaceful" environment conducive to a relaxing vacation, the experience can be significantly impacted by the perceived rudeness and seemingly arbitrary enforcement of rules by the individuals managing the gate. The stark contrast between the appreciation for the natural setting and the dissatisfaction with the management creates a complex picture for potential visitors.
For local users searching for "camping near me," Amity Campground presents an option with the potential for a tranquil escape amidst beautiful surroundings. The positive comments about the scenery and peaceful atmosphere indicate that the fundamental aspects of a nature-oriented camping trip might be well-catered for here. However, it is crucial for prospective campers to be aware of the reported issues concerning the gate management, as these interactions seem to have detracted significantly from the overall experience for some visitors.
Considering the information available, Amity Campground appears to be a location with inherent natural charm. If you prioritize a peaceful and visually appealing environment for your camping trip near Lanett, Alabama, this campground might still be worth considering. However, it would be prudent to approach your visit with an awareness of the potential for less-than-welcoming interactions upon arrival and departure, based on the recent reviews. The long-term positive experiences of some visitors suggest that the core camping experience itself can be enjoyable, provided that interactions with the management do not overshadow it. It remains to be seen if the management concerns raised in the reviews will be addressed in the future to ensure a consistently positive experience for all who choose to camp at Amity Campground.

Amity Campground Reviews
Been coming here for over 20 years camping with thousands of great memories...but now the new people running the gate are just so plan rude...may have to find a new spot till those nasty people are gone...
Apr 26, 2025 · Chris FieldsGorgeous, peaceful, one of my favorite vacations. This was our first time visiting. Would give 5 stars HOWEVER, the lady that works the gate is possibly the angriest person I’ve ever met. From check in to every time we left, she was rude. Looking for things to fuss about from where we parked to check in to where we hung our park pass. We rode our bikes to get a picture of the sign and she yelled at us that we didn’t need to ride up there that they expected lots of people checking in and out that day. I giggled (I’m a nervous giggler and the thought that she was reprimanding me, a 53 year old woman and my husband, a 63 year old man was laughable). She leaned out the window and yelled at me “IT’S NOT FUNNY!” Then, as we rode back in, her husband stopped my husband and told him we were required to wear helmets. This is not a state law and it is not posted as a rule at the park. We have camped at several Corp of Engineer campgrounds and have never been told this. We didn’t argue, we just avoided them. Someone really needs to reconsider their contract next year. People just want to enjoy their vacation and not be harassed. Otherwise, it would have been a perfect vacation.
Jul 27, 2024 · Deirdre DenningThis very well could be the best campground on this lake! Rain to Blue skies, this campground will be the most BEAUTIFUL one you find! The hosts and visitors are extremely kind and helpful. If you do not know your way, they will give you directions and give you a map. It really makes you feel like family here! I couldn't describe the location in a better way, it is absolutely STUNNING! The wildlife around here will sometimes come close to you and you can get so many pictures as well! All in all 10/10 Park and we 100% will be visiting again.
May 05, 2024 · Remington DiedrichThey don’t have rooms but their camp sites are beautiful, nicely spaced apart, available with water and electricity, most on the lake. Our campsite was perfect, got to watch some beautiful sunrises, woke up, walked out of our tent and fished before breakfast. Camp staff is great, very nice, helpful. Bathrooms are clean and all work. Had a great time, plan on going back as soon as this heat passes!!
Jun 25, 2024 · Danielle HolmanThis is my family's 5th year coming to this campsite. Every experience we've had in the past was wonderful. Unfortunately this time was not. The lady at the front gate was so rude and VERY unprofessional. Her husband was rude as well. She harassed our family the entire time! Every year we have been able to put our tents wherever on our lots. However, we were not allowed to put our tents on the grass this time, only on the square pad. We had 5 tents and 2 lots. There was not anyway for them all to fit on that small pad. She said we would have to have half of the tent hang over the pad. Which is crazy!! Unfortunately the ground wasn't even with the pad so that wasn't going to work. We ended up having to put one of our tents on the hot pavement where we parked our cars. She called the Park ranger on us. She got rude with one of our visitors. She told us we had too many vehicles which we didn't and she wouldn't allow our children to play their slip & slide water game. This upset our younger children. It took a while for us to calm them down. She kept riding by our Campsite. Our camping neighbors started noticing the harassment & came to visit us & even talked to the Ranger. He was no help either. Our neighbors told us a lot of people are going to stop coming because of her. Some said they wouldn't have booked had they known she would be working during this time. I will be reaching out to someone about this woman and her husband who was also rude to our visitor. Her husband threatened our visitor! She was very upset & ended up not staying for her visit. I don't think we will be staying here again. It's not worth sacrificing the happiness of our children. Whoever is over hiring the attendants need to replace this woman & her husband immediately!!!!!
