This is a GREAT dry camping site. There is a total of five (maybe it's six) camp sites. We took our 35 foot bumper pull trailer, and only had a few issues getting it in and out of there. Went there in 2020, and I am currently enroute there again, today. 😁I definitely recommend this location to anyone wishing to get mostly away from people. - Chris Buckingham

Custer #1 Campground Introduce

For local adventurers seeking "camping near me" in the scenic region of Stanley, Idaho, Custer #1 Campground offers a promising option for a more secluded and nature-focused experience. Located on Yankee Fork Rd, Stanley, ID 83278, USA, and reachable by phone at (208) 756-5100 or +1 208-756-5100, this campground appears to be a haven for those wishing to escape crowded areas and immerse themselves in the tranquility of the Idaho wilderness. Based on the limited but positive feedback from previous visitors, Custer #1 Campground is primarily a "dry camping site," suggesting a more rustic experience without hookups for water, electricity, or sewer.

One reviewer explicitly states that Custer #1 Campground is a "GREAT dry camping site," immediately setting expectations for the type of camping available. The mention of a total of "five (maybe it's six) camp sites" indicates a very small and intimate campground setting. This limited number of sites contributes to the potential for a quieter and less crowded experience, aligning with the recommendation for "anyone wishing to get mostly away from people." For local users prioritizing solitude and a more natural camping environment, the small size of Custer #1 Campground could be a significant advantage.

The experience of maneuvering a larger trailer into and out of the campground is also insightful. One visitor successfully managed a 35-foot bumper pull trailer, noting only "a few issues" during the process. This suggests that while the campground might be accessible to larger vehicles, careful navigation and potentially some maneuvering might be required. Campers with particularly long trailers or RVs should likely exercise caution and perhaps scout the area beforehand if possible, or be prepared for a potentially tight fit. The fact that the reviewer, having visited in 2020, was "currently enroute there again, today" speaks volumes about their positive experience and their desire to return, indicating a satisfying camping destination.

Given that Custer #1 Campground is described as a "dry camping site," it is important for prospective visitors to understand what this entails in terms of services and amenities. Dry camping typically means that the campground does not provide connections for water, electricity, or sewer at individual campsites. Campers engaging in dry camping need to be self-sufficient in these areas. This requires bringing their own water supply for drinking, cooking, and sanitation, having alternative power sources such as generators or solar panels if electricity is needed, and having a plan for waste disposal, including grey and black water for RVs. While the review does not mention specific amenities like restrooms or picnic tables, it is possible that basic facilities such as vault toilets might be available at the campground, although this cannot be confirmed from the provided information. Campers should be prepared for a more primitive camping experience unless they obtain further details about available amenities by contacting the provided phone numbers.

The environment surrounding Custer #1 Campground in the Stanley, Idaho area is likely to be a significant draw for visitors. Stanley is nestled amidst the stunning scenery of the Sawtooth Mountains and the Salmon River Valley. This region is renowned for its breathtaking mountain views, pristine alpine lakes, abundant wildlife, and opportunities for outdoor recreation such as hiking, fishing, and exploring the vast wilderness of the Sawtooth National Recreation Area. It is highly probable that Custer #1 Campground benefits from this spectacular natural setting, offering campers a chance to immerse themselves in the beauty of the Idaho Rockies. The "mostly away from people" aspect suggests a location that is perhaps more remote or less heavily trafficked than some of the larger, more developed campgrounds in the area.

While the reviews provide valuable insights into the nature of the camping experience at Custer #1 Campground, they do not offer specific details about unique features or any promotional information. Potential features could include proximity to hiking trails, access to nearby streams or rivers for fishing, or exceptional views of the surrounding mountains. The lack of crowds and the emphasis on a quiet environment could also be considered key features for those seeking a peaceful retreat. Without any promotional material, local users would need to inquire directly about any special offers, seasonal rates, or specific attractions associated with the campground when they contact the provided phone numbers.

In conclusion, for local users searching for "camping near me" who prefer dry camping and a more secluded atmosphere, Custer #1 Campground near Stanley, Idaho, appears to be a highly recommended option. Its small size, with only around five or six campsites, suggests a limited capacity that could contribute to a quieter and more intimate camping experience. While maneuvering larger trailers is possible with some care, campers should be prepared for dry camping conditions and come self-equipped with water, power, and waste management solutions. The positive return visit of a previous camper underscores the appeal of this location for those seeking to get away from crowds and enjoy the natural beauty of the Stanley area. To obtain more specific information about amenities, potential features, and any current promotions, interested individuals should contact Custer #1 Campground directly at (208) 756-5100 or +1 208-756-5100.
