Lower O'Brien Campground Introduce
For local users seeking "camping near me" in a picturesque riverside setting, Lower O'Brien Campground, located on Robinson Bar Rd, Stanley, ID 83278, USA, offers a dry camping experience along the beautiful Salmon River. The reviews highlight the natural beauty of the area and the allure of the river, while also providing some practical information about the campground's facilities and access.
One reviewer noted that "anywhere along the Salmon River is beautiful," immediately setting the scene for a visually appealing camping destination. It's important to note that Lower O'Brien Campground is described as "dry camping," which typically means there are no hookups for water, electricity, or sewer at individual campsites. Campers should be prepared to be self-sufficient in these regards.
Regarding water, the reviewer mentioned that the water pump/cistern at the lower campground was closed at the time of their visit. However, they pointed out that water could be obtained from the upper campground, suggesting that there is a water source available nearby, albeit perhaps not directly within the Lower O'Brien Campground itself. Campers planning to rely on this source should verify its current availability and plan accordingly for transporting water to their site.
The review also provided insights into the vault toilet facilities, noting that the one at the lower campground was "tiny" and had been affected by the previous year's heavy snow, resulting in it not being "one of the nicest to use." This is a practical consideration for campers who prefer or need restroom facilities. It might be worthwhile to inquire about the condition of the upper campground's facilities if that's where the water source is also located.
Access to Lower O'Brien Campground involves a one-lane bridge and road, as mentioned by a reviewer. This requires caution and planning for passing other vehicles. The reviewer advised looking ahead and being prepared to yield if necessary. Additionally, they noted that fishermen and swimmers might be present on the bridge, so slow and careful driving is essential to ensure the safety of everyone.
On a more positive note, the campground offers a variety of camping spots, including "a couple double camping spots" as well as normal single sites. This caters to different group sizes and needs. There is also extra car parking available for one or two vehicles, which can be beneficial for those traveling with multiple vehicles or meeting up with others.
A significant draw of Lower O'Brien Campground is its location right by the river. As one reviewer stated, "The river makes this a great camping area." The proximity to the Salmon River offers opportunities for various water-related activities, such as fishing and swimming, as alluded to by the reviewer who mentioned people on the bridge. Another reviewer vividly described the river's edge as having a "warm invitation to 'come on in and pull the water up over your head'," emphasizing the appealing nature of the river for recreation.
For local users looking for "camping near me" that prioritizes natural beauty and river access over developed amenities, Lower O'Brien Campground could be a good fit. The dry camping nature means you'll need to bring your own water and be prepared for basic facilities. However, the stunning scenery of the Salmon River and the opportunities for fishing and swimming are significant attractions.

Lower O'Brien Campground Reviews
Anywhere along the Salmon River is beautiful. This is dry camping. The water pump/cistern at lower campground is closed, but you can grab water from the upper campground. The vault toilet is tiny and took a beating last year with all the snow and is not one of the nicest to use. The bridge and road to get to campground is one lane, so look ahead and plan for passing. There are fisherman and swimmers on the bridge, so drive slow. There are a couple double camping spots and well as their normal singles. There is also extra car parking for one or two vehicles. The river makes this a great camping area.

Jan 31, 2025 · Taylor HobbsAlmost don't want to share that in early season, you will have it to yourself. There is a hot springs like 10 mins away. Awesome spot
