David Crockett Birthplace State Park Campground Introduce
For local users in Tennessee and those interested in exploring the historic Limestone area while enjoying the outdoors, David Crockett Birthplace State Park Campground, located at 1245 Davy Crockett Park Rd, Limestone, TN 37681, has been a highly regarded option for "camping near me." You can reach the park at (423) 257-4500 or their mobile number, +1 423-257-4500. However, it is crucial to note an important update: as of January 2025, due to unprecedented flooding, this campground is currently closed until further notice. While we will describe its appealing features based on past reviews, please be aware that it is not currently operational.
Prior to its closure, David Crockett Birthplace State Park Campground was celebrated for its exceptional environment. Situated directly on the banks of the scenic Nolichucky River, the campground offered "Nice sites right on the Nolichucky River." The soothing sounds of "river rapids" were a notable aspect, providing a tranquil and natural ambiance for campers at their sites. This riverside location also presented opportunities for fishing, provided campers held a valid Tennessee fishing license, making it an attractive destination for anglers searching for "camping near me" with recreational water access.
Beyond the river, the campground boasted a landscape conducive to various outdoor activities. Reviewers mentioned "Lots of bike riding all around the grounds/sites" and the presence of "trails to walk or hike," catering to those who enjoy exploring on wheels or foot. The natural beauty of the area, described as "peaceful and gorgeous scenery," further enhanced the appeal of the environment for those seeking a relaxing and picturesque "camping near me" experience.
The staff at David Crockett Birthplace State Park Campground consistently received high praise for their service. Guests described the "park rangers and host staff" as "very friendly, helpful," and "amazing." This emphasis on exceptional customer service contributed significantly to the positive experiences of campers, fostering a welcoming and supportive atmosphere within the park.
In terms of amenities, the campground offered clean and well-maintained facilities. Reviewers specifically noted that the "Restrooms and bath houses" were "very clean and nice" and, remarkably, were equipped with both "a/c (and heat)," ensuring comfort regardless of the season. This attention to the quality of essential facilities is a significant draw for many local users when considering "camping near me."
The campground was also noted as "Dog-friendly," making it a suitable option for campers who travel with their canine companions. This inclusivity is an important factor for many pet owners when choosing a "camping near me" destination.
For those who enjoy outdoor meals, the campground provided a "Nice picnic pavilion area close to campsites," as well as individual "picnic table" at what appeared to be all sites. Additionally, there were "several picnic tables right at river at boat dock area," offering scenic spots for enjoying a meal by the water. The convenience of picnic facilities both at campsites and by the river added to the overall appeal of the campground.
While not all campsites were equipped with a fire pit, the campground offered a solution for those who desired one: "Fire pit not provided on all sites; but if not you can rent one from the camp store." This flexibility allowed campers to have a campfire experience if they wished, while also providing an alternative for those who didn't need one.
The campsites themselves were described as "all spots are paved, and pretty level," which is advantageous for RVers and tent campers alike, providing a stable and even surface. However, one reviewer noted that it is a "smaller campground and larger rigs can have a bit of difficulty maneuvering some turns," advising caution for those with very large recreational vehicles.
Beyond the camping facilities, the location within David Crockett Birthplace State Park offered additional attractions. The reviewer mentioned "Lots of activities, trails, history, etc.," suggesting that visitors could explore the historical significance of the site, learn about David Crockett, and engage in various recreational pursuits within the park. The potential for a blend of historical and outdoor experiences made this campground a unique "camping near me" option.
One notable drawback mentioned in the reviews was the closure of the pool, which had been out of service for several years. However, there was a future plan to address this, with campers being "told they plan to replace the pool soon with a play area." One reviewer expressed a desire for a splash pad as a potential alternative if a pool was not in the immediate plans.
Currently, due to the unfortunate "unprecedented floods" reported in January 2025, the David Crockett Birthplace State Park Campground is closed "until further notice." Local users who may have considered this as their "camping near me" destination will need to monitor updates from the park regarding its reopening and any repair work being undertaken. The enthusiastic anticipation of a returning camper ("I can’t wait to return after they repair it!") speaks to the positive experiences many have had at this campground and the hope for its eventual reopening.
Given the current closure, there is no relevant promotional information available at this time. Any future promotions or updates regarding the reopening of the campground would likely be announced on the park's official website or through their contact information.
In conclusion, while currently inaccessible due to flooding, David Crockett Birthplace State Park Campground has historically offered a wonderful "camping near me" experience in a scenic riverside setting with friendly staff and clean amenities. Its proximity to historical and recreational activities, along with its dog-friendly policy, made it a popular choice. Local users in the Limestone, TN area should keep an eye out for updates on its reopening to once again enjoy the unique charm and natural beauty this campground has to offer.

David Crockett Birthplace State Park Campground Reviews
We LOVE this campground! Nice sites right on the Nolichucky River. Can hear the river rapids as you hang out at your site. Can fish in river if you have a TN fishing license. Lots of bike riding all around the grounds/sites. There are trails to walk or hike. Very friendly, helpful park rangers and host staff. Pool is closed and has been for years which is sad. We are told they plan to replace the pool soon with a play area. Wish they would consider a splash pad if no plans for a future pool. Restrooms and bath houses very clean and nice. Dog-friendly park. Nice picnic pavilion area close to campsites and it appears all sites have their own picnic table. Fire pit not provided on all sites; but if not you can rent one from the camp store. There are several picnic tables right at river at boat dock area. You can drive to boat dock then walk to rivers edge and have a picnic. So peaceful and gorgeous scenery.UPDATE JAN 2025: Sadly the recent unprecedented floods have closed this campground until further notice. I can’t wait to return after they repair it! But for now it is closed.
Feb 04, 2025 · Marsha LambThe staff (both rangers and camp hosts) were amazing. The park is exceptional in friendliness and cleanliness. We loved that the bath houses were a/c (and heat). It's a smaller campground and larger rigs can have a bit of difficulty maneuvering some turns, but nothing impossible. All spots are paved, and pretty level. Lots of activities, trails, history, etc. Better signage from the highway (11) would help.

Aug 27, 2024 · DLM-Distribution CampervansHad a wonderful time camping this Father’s Day/Juneteenth weekend! Park rangers were super friendly. Campsite managers were great as well. Beautiful trails to walk, we’ll maintained and historic value added. Highly recommend!
Jun 21, 2022 · mass ReddMy adult daughter and I were tent camping for the night, and found it to be a wonderful experience. Imagine being just 30 ft away from a river with Rapids, and the wonderful all night white noise that generates. Slept fantastic, and could even see the river from our campsite, and walk down to the river to eat our dinner and breakfast. Some short but lovely trails nearby if you like to hike, very close to the campsites.
