Dillon Creek Campground Introduce
Are you searching for "camping near me" in the Happy Camp, California area and looking for a campground with creek access and proximity to river activities? Dillon Creek Campground, located on Klamath River Hwy, Happy Camp, CA 96039, USA, offers a potentially scenic and convenient camping experience. You can reach them at (707) 442-1721 or +1 707-442-1721 for inquiries, although it's important to note some crucial details from recent visitor reviews.
When exploring "camping near me," Dillon Creek Campground stands out due to its location alongside a creek that offers opportunities for cooling off and swimming. For those interested in rafting or kayaking on the nearby river, the campground serves as a good base. The area is described as remote, which can be appealing for those seeking a getaway in nature.
According to visitor feedback, Dillon Creek Campground has several positive aspects. The creek running through the campground is reported to be easily accessible, with great swimming areas where visitors can even climb up walls and jump into the water. For those willing to explore a bit, there are apparently secluded areas along the creek to discover. This suggests that the natural environment surrounding the campground offers opportunities for both relaxation and a touch of adventure.
However, it's important to be aware of some potential drawbacks mentioned by visitors. One reviewer noted that the campsites are very close together, which might impact the sense of privacy and spaciousness. They also mentioned that access down to the creek for cooling off is somewhat limited. Additionally, this visit occurred during a period of 110°F weather, and the campground was very crowded, which could detract from the overall experience for some campers.
A critical piece of information from one of the reviews is that the campground "currently does not have water," which is a significant factor to consider when planning a trip, especially to a remote location. Campers will need to bring their own water supply for drinking, cooking, and hygiene purposes. It's advisable to confirm the water situation with the campground management before your visit.
Another significant point raised in the reviews is the presence of wildlife. Visitors reported hearing "quite a few" animals at night and strongly advise taking precautions such as putting food away and staying inside tents to avoid encounters. This highlights the importance of being prepared for potential interactions with local fauna when camping in this area.
Considering the information available, Dillon Creek Campground offers a natural camping experience with the primary draw being its access to Dillon Creek for swimming and its proximity to the river for rafting and kayaking. The remote location can be a plus for those seeking solitude, but it also underscores the need for self-sufficiency, particularly regarding water at the time of the reviews.
For those searching for "camping near me" who prioritize water activities and a natural setting, Dillon Creek Campground could be a suitable option. The creek's swimming areas, including those with opportunities for climbing and jumping, seem to be a highlight. The campground's role as a convenient stop for river rafters and kayakers also adds to its appeal for adventure enthusiasts.
However, potential visitors should be prepared for potentially crowded conditions, especially during peak seasons and hot weather. The close proximity of campsites might not appeal to those seeking a more secluded camping experience. The current lack of water at the campground necessitates careful planning and packing. Furthermore, the presence of wildlife requires campers to take appropriate safety measures.
Before planning a trip to Dillon Creek Campground, it would be wise to contact the management at (707) 442-1721 or +1 707-442-1721 to inquire about the current water situation, campsite availability, and any specific guidelines or recommendations for campers, especially regarding wildlife. Asking about any recent improvements or changes to the campground facilities would also be beneficial.
In conclusion, Dillon Creek Campground near Happy Camp, CA, offers a camping experience centered around its creek access and proximity to river activities. It can be a "pretty great place" for those who enjoy swimming and water sports. However, potential visitors must be aware of the reported crowded conditions, the potential for high temperatures, the current lack of water supply, the remote location requiring self-sufficiency, and the need to take precautions due to wildlife. For those searching for "camping near me" with these considerations in mind, Dillon Creek Campground could be a worthwhile stop, especially for an overnight stay or as a base for river adventures.

Dillon Creek Campground Reviews
This place is pretty great although the sights are very close together and only a small access down at the creek to cool off. It was very crowded and 110°. The campground currently does not have water so that's something to keep in mind. Very remote place and a good stop to spend the night if you're looking for somewhere to crash. Also a good point to stay if rafting or kayaking the river.
Aug 03, 2022 · B-TownReally great place. The creek running through is easy to get to. Great swimming areas where you can climb up walls and jump in. Secluded areas of you're up for a tiny bit of adventure to find them. But definitely beware of animals at night. We heard quite a few! Put food away and stay in your tent!
Sep 22, 2020 · Perla Millan HensonGreat little campground with a FANTASTIC swimming hole! We just got back today (7/22/18). The four stars was for no drinking water. Only one place on their website says no drinking water while 2 other places it says drinking water available. We arrived at Dillon Creek Campground to find there was no drinking water. We were on motorcycles and had minimal water. LUCKILY...I had my Katadyn filter for emergencies. We were able to fill my 500ml Camelback and make several trips down to the river for water. Just be aware that there is NO WATER at the campground. Bring your own. We made the reservation on 1/27/18. The no water notice came out in May. It would have been nice to receive an email notifying anyone who made reservations prior to May that there was no water. Oh well, still an awesome spot, just could have been a disaster if we didn't have our filter.
Jul 22, 2018 · Abbie YAccess to the river is there, but not great. There is no camp host, although US forestry does drive through a couple times a day. There is water, but make sure you bring your own wood. Overall, not a bad campsite, but with no camp host, if there are other rowdy campers there's not much you can do.
Jul 08, 2019 · Cindy LeachGreat little camp for those looking for rest from driving, but not too many options for hiking. The campsite allows you to drive right up to your spot, where you have a campfire area and a picnic table. The Klamath River is about 150 feet from each campsite and you have about 50-80 feet separation from your neighbors. If you arrive at night, you can use your car's headlights to help you set up.
