Double G RV Park Introduce
For local users searching for "camping near me," particularly those with RVs, Double G RV Park in McHenry, Maryland, offers a welcoming and well-maintained option for your next getaway. Located at 76 Double G Dr, McHenry, MD 21541, USA, this RV park prides itself on its friendly atmosphere, attentive staff, and clean facilities, making it a comfortable and peaceful choice for both short visits and seasonal stays.
The environment at Double G RV Park is characterized by its cleanliness and the care taken in its upkeep. While one reviewer noted the absence of shade trees in their specific area and the sites being relatively close together, the overall impression from multiple guests is one of a well-maintained and comfortable setting. The presence of well-kept seasonal sites contributes to a "comfortable and peaceful feel" throughout the campground, suggesting a stable and considerate community of longer-term residents who add to the positive atmosphere.
One of the standout features of Double G RV Park is the exceptional service provided by the staff, who are often the owners themselves. Guests consistently praise their pleasant and helpful demeanor. One reviewer recounted arriving late on a Friday night and the owners willingly staying late to ensure they settled in without any issues. This level of dedication and willingness to go the extra mile highlights a commitment to guest satisfaction. The friendly nature of the staff extends to the overall atmosphere of the park, where guests report that fellow campers are also friendly and open to chatting, fostering a sense of community.
The facilities at Double G RV Park are designed with the comfort and convenience of RV travelers in mind. The park offers full hookups at its sites, including both 30 and 50 amp electrical service, ensuring compatibility for a wide range of RV sizes. The gravel strips for campers at each site provide a stable and relatively level base, with one reviewer specifically mentioning not needing to level their camper side to side on site M2 and still having room to stay hooked up. While the roads within the park are noted as not being overly wide, potentially posing a slight challenge for backing in larger rigs, careful maneuvering and possibly a spotter can likely mitigate any difficulties, especially for corner lots which offer easier access.
A significant highlight mentioned by multiple reviewers is the bathhouse. It is consistently described as "CLEAN" and importantly, "heated," a particularly welcome feature during cooler times of the year. While one guest noted the shower water temperature could be warmer and mentioned a minor maintenance issue with a showerhead, the overall cleanliness and the availability of warm showers are strong positives. This attention to the cleanliness of essential facilities contributes significantly to the overall comfort and satisfaction of guests.
The atmosphere at Double G RV Park is generally described as "QUIET," although one reviewer noted that their end-of-season, rainy weekend might have contributed to this. However, the impression given is that the park typically maintains a peaceful environment, likely enhanced by the presence of many seasonal or permanent residents who contribute to a stable and respectful community. Despite the proximity of sites mentioned by one reviewer, the overall feel is one of tranquility and relaxation.
While Double G RV Park may not offer amenities like a pool or extensive shade trees in all areas, as pointed out by one guest, it compensates with its friendly service, well-maintained grounds, and clean facilities. Another reviewer noted the absence of a playground but also mentioned a large field where children could run around, suggesting some open space for recreational activities. For families, while specific kid-focused amenities might be limited, the welcoming atmosphere and the space to play could still make it a viable option.
One unique and appreciated detail mentioned by a visitor is the "7 1/2" MPH speed limit sign, which adds a touch of personality and humor to the park's regulations. This small detail reflects the care and attention to creating a pleasant and slightly less rigid environment for guests.
For local RV owners seeking a "camping near me" experience that prioritizes a friendly, well-managed, and clean environment with full hookups, Double G RV Park in McHenry, MD, is a strong contender. The positive feedback regarding the staff's helpfulness, the cleanliness of the bathhouse, and the overall peaceful atmosphere suggests a commitment to providing a comfortable stay. While it may lack some of the resort-style amenities like a pool, its core offerings cater well to the needs of RV travelers looking for a reliable and welcoming base to explore the surrounding area or simply enjoy a relaxing getaway. Jun 22, 2024 · Richard LechnerCurrently staying here this weekend, booked a "father-sons" trip for my dad, my brother, and I. It was a 4 hour trip with the camper, so I was worried we'd be arriving late Friday after closing. The staff (owners) were willing to stay late to make sure we settled in OK! They seem like good, honest, friendly people, and I had a nice conversation Saturday afternoon for 20 minutes or so when I bought firewood (only $10 for dry, seasoned, all you can load in a wheelbarrow). For just the three of us, our site was a good size. For my immediate family of 9 (7 kids, my wife, and I), it would have been too small - but there was a big field I believe they could go run around. No playground that I saw, but I didn't ask. I'm sure if I had asked for a site for that size family, and with a little notice, they would be willing to accommodate.I didn't need to level the camper side to side at all, and still had room to stay hooked up (site M2). Gravel strip for your camper from the road to the back of the site. Full hookups (my spot had a 30 and a 50 amp plug) and everything seemed maintained well (didn't try the cable TV). I had a corner lot so I had no trouble backing in. I might have if we were diwn one of the aisles, as the roads aren't too wide. Perhaps with patience and a spotter it wouldn't be too bad?Biggest thing is the bath house was CLEAN and heated! The showers were warm - not as hot as I would like, but still comfortable. It was a toss-up if more water came from the shower head or ran down the wall, but that's a minor maintenance issue. The place is QUIET. We are here on a rainy, end of season weekend, which may play a part. I get the distinct impression most of the people here are seasonal or permanent. Sites looked well maintained, and every spot was booked.Overall, I would definitely come back. Not sure if they could handle my large family for our next stay, but if they can, we'll be here. Family owned and operated with care and pride! Just please turn up the water temp and tighten up the shower heads :-) .BTW, love the "7 1/2" MPH speed limit sign! Definitely got a chuckle on that - much better than a boring "5 MPH" sign.
Sep 11, 2022 · Jason M. BullGreat location close to the lake, relaxing and family-friendly! We've been staying a weekend at Double G RV Park for 3-years now and are already booked for the next year. It fills up fast! The park is mainly seasonal & park models with 10 short-term spots for 'weekend' campers. There's a small camp-store for RV needs + souvenirs and the staff are excellent! If you're looking for a great place to stay where you can enjoy all the lake has to offer this is a great choice!
Jan 25, 2022 · Jeremy RolainMay stay was very pleasant. The campground is small and nothing real special but the people sure are. I did take me a little time to get the motorhome leveled since the jacks kept lifting the tires off the ground (which I personally do not leave my rig with tires not touching). So with just a little bit of back and forth to get the right amount of boards under the tires (also the jacks so they could then reach) but once I was settled, it was a very peaceful and nice relaxing 4 days. The girls in the office are so sweet and were willing to help with whatever I needed (or would have sent one of the maintenance guys over if needed.) Also, it was nice to be able to have other family members come and visit for the day without having to pay an extra fee. Nothing fancy, but I don't need a 5 star resort to enjoy camping, have beautiful scenery close by and to be surrounded by nice people.
Jan 18, 2022 · Kim DurhamOur stay at Double G was pleasant but cramped. The overnight/weekender lots were narrow (approx. 30 ft wide) making it very close to your neighbors rig. This also necessitated moving the campfire rings out by the road leaving you with an overall feeling of a lack of privacy. The lots were just deep enough to accommodate at Class A rig. You have to park your vehicle across the street in an empty lot. As with most campsites, the seasonal campers get all of the primo lots with trees and shade, while the overnight/weekender lots are wide open with no shade. The morning/afternoon sun will blast the passenger side of your trailer, but the evening/sunset will be shady if you have your canopy out.The lots were fairly level gravel/grass lots and utilities were good. Lots of cable tv channels available and free wi-fi - though you are requested not to stream on it. Our AT&T service had excellent signal strength and speed. Our views were less than appealing with views of everyone's vehicles parked in the lot across the street, a rundown volleyball court and beyond that the backside of a house facing Mosser Rd. Road noise was minimal and overall quiet. The owners were very nice and the seasonal campers we engaged with were pleasant. You can get a wheelbarrow load of firewood for $7.00 plus tax. There is a general store there but I'm not sure how well it is stocked as we were not allowed in it due to Covid. The restrooms/showers were also closed due to the pandemic.Very convenient to Deep Creek Lake and WISP Resort which is just down the street.
