Duke Creek Campgrounds Introduce
For those searching for "camping near me" in the Cedar Springs, Michigan vicinity, Duke Creek Campgrounds, situated at 15190 White Creek Ave NE, Cedar Springs, MI 49319, USA, offers a local camping option. Based on the available customer reviews, experiences at Duke Creek Campgrounds appear to be varied, with some guests reporting positive experiences while others encountered significant issues. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview based on these reviews to help local users make informed decisions.
One positive review highlights a stay in a cabin over Labor Day weekend. The guests reported having a "great time," describing the cabin as "perfect" and well-equipped for "glamping." They also praised the "big and clean" pool and the playground, which offered play sets suitable for both toddlers and older children. The reviewer noted the campground's quiet and peaceful atmosphere, deeming it "perfect for a family." This suggests that Duke Creek Campgrounds can offer a pleasant family-friendly environment with suitable amenities for children and comfortable cabin accommodations for those seeking a more luxurious camping experience.
However, another review presents a starkly contrasting experience. This guest, who rented a cabin for an extended family weekend getaway, reported arriving to find the cabin in a significantly unclean state. Their detailed description included a toilet with "splashes of vomit/diarrhea," empty bottles found in various places, used false eyelashes on the carpet, a fridge with food stains and residues, a stove with food splashes, and a dirty glass tray with food residues in the oven. This paints a concerning picture regarding the cleanliness and maintenance of at least one of the cabins.
The same reviewer also detailed their attempts to address these issues with the campground management. Upon discovering the state of the cabin after check-in hours, they were unable to reach the office by phone. They proceeded to clean the cabin themselves, assuming positive intent. The following morning, they left a voicemail and later spoke with the owner. According to the review, the owner apologized, explaining that a newly employed homeless woman was responsible for cleaning and had not been properly supervised. The owner reportedly offered free firewood for the weekend as compensation for the inconvenience.
Further issues arose during the stay for this guest. They noticed a loose curtain rod by the sliding door and took extra care to prevent it from falling. However, the rod eventually fell and hit the reviewer on the head. This incident raises concerns about the maintenance and safety of the cabin fixtures.
The interaction with the owner following this incident, as described by the reviewer, was particularly negative. When the guest's mother attempted to explain the situation with the curtain rod, the owner allegedly made a comment about her "thick accent" and later accused the guest of breaking the rod, despite the guest stating it was loose from the beginning. The conversation reportedly escalated, with the owner becoming rude and ultimately telling the guest not to return. This account suggests potential issues with customer service and communication from the management.
Another observation from a different reviewer mentioned that "the campground is definitely jammed a little tight between tents & campers." This suggests that the campsites might be in close proximity to each other, potentially impacting privacy and the overall sense of spaciousness within the campground. This is a factor that some campers might find less appealing.
Considering these reviews, Duke Creek Campgrounds appears to offer a family-friendly environment with amenities like a pool and playground, as well as cabin rentals for a "glamping" experience. However, there are significant concerns raised about the cleanliness and maintenance of the cabins, as well as potential issues with customer service and communication from the management. The close proximity of campsites might also be a consideration for some campers.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information available in the provided text. Therefore, local users considering Duke Creek Campgrounds should weigh the positive feedback regarding the amenities and family-friendly atmosphere against the serious concerns raised about cleanliness, maintenance, and customer service. It may be prudent to seek more recent reviews or contact Duke Creek Campgrounds directly at (616) 696-2115 or +1 616-696-2115 for further clarification and to inquire about their current standards for cleanliness and maintenance before making a booking decision. As a local option for "camping near me," Duke Creek Campgrounds presents a mixed picture based on the available feedback.

We stayed in a cabin over Labor Day weekend, we had a great time. The cabin was perfect and had everything needed for “glamping”. Sep 02, 2024 · Lauren DeCricklong post but read before renting. Especially if English is not your first language. Our family rented a cabin as our annual weekend extended family getaway. Upon arrival, cabin was dirty and not clean. Toilet had splashes of vomit/diarrhea, we found empty bottles behind the couch and between the mattresses up in the loft, used lashes on the carpet, fridge with food stains and residues, Stove with food splashes, and a dirty glass tray with food residues in the oven. We arrived to the cabin after check in hours due to work and kids extracurricular activities. We tried calling the office but got no answer. We did not want to disappoint the kids and go home due to the conditions so we got to cleaning assuming positive intent. We cleaned the fridge before putting food in and the loft and toilet before use. Saturday morning I called again and left a voicemail. Later on, mom spoke with the owner over the phone and she told mom they had employed a homeless woman who was looking for work. She assumed fault and apologized for not checking the cabin before opening it for us. She told mom she felt helping this woman was important, mom agreed. Mom offered to show her pictures but she declines. Owner granted cabin 101 free wood for the weekend. Mind you, this is a $135 per night cabin. We just assumed positive intent and tried to carry on with our weekend. We noticed the curtain rod by the sliding door was loose so we were trying to be super careful to ensure it didn’t fall. This morning, the rod fell on my head when opening the door. I took a deep breath and just carried on, the. put it to the side. After cleaning and were packed up, mom called the owner to ensure good and clear communication. As mom was trying to explain what had happened with the rod, my mom said “you can’t understand me?” this caught me off guard. My mom then repeated herself, and I head my mom say again “you can’t understand me?” So I asked mom for the phone and as I placed the phone to my ear I heard the lady say “…it’s because of your thick accent” so I took over the conversation and asked owner if my English was ok because I too had an accent. She said it was fine. I explained what had happened with the rod. She then told me “so you broke it”. To which I replied, “no ma’am that was lose since the get go and it fell as I opened the door” she then said we should have called her and it was not her fault, “we can’t control how hard you people pull on it” then I heard a males voice “what did they brake?” And the owner replied “she broke the curtain rod” so I reiterated “ma’am that was loose and I did not pull on it, I opened the door and it fell on my head. Had this fallen on my kids head that would have been a problem. Maybe next time it would be a good idea to inspect cabins before allowing people to go inside” to this she asked if I was the one she spoke to Saturday morning explaining why the cabin was dirty. I told her no, but that the rod had nothing to do with this. She then told me “you know it’s best if you don’t come back!” With a very rude tone. I agreed it was best. I added that it was very rude for her to tell mom she didn’t understand her when she had a conversation with her the day prior. She then started arguing with me and told me again to not come back. I ended the conversation telling her I would leave a Google review and God bless her. Minutes later right before driving off she shows up and wants to talk to mom and apologize but she wanted nothing to do with me. She went up to my mom and said she was sorry she had sad what she said. However, this tone was not there until after I told her I would leave a Google review.I understand things happen, especially at the end of the season. But if we are paying $135 PER night, maintenance should be kept up and at the least know the structural conditions of your cabins before charging and trying to blame tenants who are being clear with you. It’s not only a safety concern but lack of accountability. We will not be coming back and hope they fix these safety issues and attitude.
Oct 13, 2024 · Alejandra Ramirez-AlvarezWe loved duke creek! This was our first experience with camping so we chose to stay in one of their cabins. It was clean, spacious, air conditioned, and safe. We had our own fire pit and picnic table outside along with space to park. We did a lot of their activities including swimming in the pool, playing on the playground, water time with the fire department, nature walks, and horse back riding. My kids are begging to go back!
Aug 02, 2024 · Heather LapourailleGreat camp ground. Seasonal residents are very nice. The outside perimeter pathway is paved so easy for riding bikes. Campground is small enough to walk it easily. On the weekends it gets busy but not bad. Also on the weekends Mike and Rhonda do wagon rides for everyone and barrel rides for kids. They also had multiple activities on Saturday, including penny dive, watermelon eating contest, fire truck and arts and crafts. They also have horses to ride but you do have to be 6 years old minimum which bummed out my 5 year old but just another reason she wants to come back next year. They picked up the kids for Sunday school on the barrel ride which was really cool. Mike and Rhonda were very nice hosts ! They were chill and you could tell they really enjoyed what they do. The pool was a big hit and had shaded cabanas. It was clean! The bathrooms were standard camp ground bathrooms but seemed to be cleaned regularly. Showers had great water pressure and stayed hot. Fire wood was big and wet so hard to start at times. Camp store had pretty much everything you needed if you happened to forget anything.Would for sure recommend the campground and we will be back! Thanks Mike and Rhonda !
Jul 22, 2024 · John MorrisonDuke creek was a nice campground. They do pack it everyone is very tight. Tent campers are almost on top of each other. We were glad to be in a camper. It was nice bathrooms kept clean. A playground for the kid's. The pool was chilly the sign said it was heated, guess the heaters weren't on idk. We didn't see anyone while we're at the pool to ask. We had a good time during our stay. The pool isn't supervised and kid's under the age of 12 are at the pool unaccompanied by adults.
