Henning County Park, located at C6C5+CX4, 500 Croton Dr, Newaygo, MI 49337, offers a well-regarded campground with easy access to the scenic Manistee River, making it a prime location for various outdoor activities. Whether you're planning a tubing or fishing trip, a group camping excursion, or a peaceful retreat by the river, this county park provides a range of amenities and a pleasant environment for local camping enthusiasts.
Riverside Environment and Natural Appeal
Ed H. Henning County Park's most significant environmental feature is its proximity to the Manistee River. The presence of the river enhances the camping experience, providing opportunities for recreation and enjoying the natural beauty of the area. The campground is described as a "nice campground," suggesting a well-maintained and appealing setting for outdoor stays. While specific details about the terrain and vegetation within the campground are not extensively mentioned, the overall impression is that it's a pleasant natural environment for camping.
One reviewer noted that some campsites (7) start out sunny in the morning and then become shaded, while others (8 and 9) remain mostly sunny. The availability of a boat launch with plenty of parking is a significant advantage for those planning to bring boats for fishing or exploring the Manistee River.
It's important to note that one reviewer mentioned the requirement to purchase a County Park Pass to camp at Ed H. Henning County Park. This is a crucial piece of information for local users to be aware of when planning their stay, as it will add to the overall cost of camping.

Ed H. Henning County Park Reviews
May 28, 2021. Check in was smooth, sucks you must buy a County Park Pass to camp. We used sites 7 and 8, friends had the Heron Cabin. 7 starts out sunny in the morning then shade, 8 and 9 stay mostly sunny. 2 stall bathrooms are decent, 4 individual shower rooms with lukewarm water, good pressure. Pickleball courts are being worked on, no nets. Several water sources in the campground to get water, overall, a nice campground close to the Manistee River.Cell service was great using Sprint/T-Mobile
May 31, 2021 · Gerard EllisGreat little campground for a tube trip or a fishing trip. Bathrooms are clean and the sites are big. They also have a couple bigger group sites. There's a boat launch with plenty of parking. We do an annual tube trip here every year and the staff is pretty laid back.
Jul 25, 2023 · Larry ReynoldsSunday was my first time playing this course after having recently moved back to the area. We played Blue to Red. The course was a crazy challenge for us both with terrain and hole layout. It seems like an excellent course, I just probably need to get better with very tight fairways and tight approaches in heavily wooded terrain. The park sets on a middle 'step' above a high river bank. Holes 1-9 are pretty much flat on this step. Holes 10-18 follow up and down the rugged second rise to the top of the high step. The holes were a little far between at times and we definitely used the UDisc app map to find our way several times. We were immediately disappointed to find that the awesome tee boxes on hole 1 were discontinued and rather terrible tees for the rest of the course, hopefully that is something that continues to develop. Hole 4 had a long approach over the old swim pond.Hole 11 was kind of insane with a crazy "S" fairway that might play well to left handers? With the technical course we ended up searching for a lot of discs in the brambles on both sides of tight fairways (pants recommended) and lost one disc in the pond. Looking forward to playing this course more and developing my familiarity with it.Blue to Blue looked insane...... We probably should have started with Red to Red to just learn the course. Those lanes seemed pretty straightforward.
Jul 29, 2024 · Michael LindererThe playground equipment is ancient. Only thing for children to do is the sandbox. No handicap accessible showers or bathrooms.
Jan 07, 2025 · Martha VisscherWarning⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️ we are being robbed !!!!!!!!!If you pay for 2 nights of camping, you olny get to camp for 1 night, and they make you leave on the second night .For example .. I booked 2 nights of camping for August 1st and 2nd chenk in is by 3pm on the 1st, after paying for 2 night @ $23 per night, I was informed on the 1st of August that I have to leave on 2nd of August by 1 pm. That is less then 24 hours 🤨 . Please correct me if wrong ? 🤔 that is olny one night of camping, because on the first day, by the time you set up your campIt's time for dinner. That doesn't give you much time to play on the river.😒On the 2nd day, you have a half of a day to pack up and leave.🤔Other than that , it's a very nice campground, with a small playground, a fairly nice shower house with 4 private shower rooms. It is pet friendly, with large sites, nestled along side of The muskegon river. The guests were very friendly. I didn't see much of the staff. until they called the police on me for trust passing, after I showed them my receipt that ihad booked and paid for augest 4-16. They told me I would get refundedmoney I paid for the 🏕 site . I still have not seen any refund 😒P.S.I made some new friends 🧡. I apologize, I'm really bad at remembering names. Oliver is the only name I can remember. so I'd like to give a big shout-out to my new friend Oliver and his beautiful family, the Rollinhagens !SincerelyRoxy
