Located in Mill City, OR 97360, this site appears to offer a pleasant environment with some well-maintained facilities, although it's worth noting some feedback regarding certain aspects.
The environment of the Elkhorn Valley Recreation Site is praised for its great location, providing easy access to shallow areas of the river, making it particularly appealing for families with children or anyone who enjoys wading and playing in the water. The presence of lush green vegetation suggests a vibrant and attractive natural setting, likely offering shade and a pleasant backdrop for camping and outdoor activities. The riverside location undoubtedly contributes to a peaceful and scenic atmosphere, allowing campers to enjoy the sounds of the flowing water and the beauty of the surrounding landscape. This type of environment is ideal for those looking to connect with nature and enjoy water-related recreation in a relatively accessible setting.
In terms of services and amenities, the Elkhorn Valley Recreation Site receives mixed feedback. On a positive note, one reviewer specifically mentions "super clean restrooms" that are also accessible and have lights, which is a significant convenience and indicates good maintenance of these facilities. This is a crucial aspect for many campers, and clean, well-lit restrooms can greatly enhance the overall camping experience. However, the same reviewer who lauded the location also pointed out a significant drawback: the vault toilets, which were described as "the worst I've ever experienced." This stark contrast in feedback regarding the restroom facilities is important for potential visitors to consider. While some restrooms are clean and well-maintained, the vault toilets appear to be a notable negative aspect of the site.
The features of the Elkhorn Valley Recreation Site seem to center around its natural setting and accessibility. The easy access to shallow areas of the river is a key feature, making it family-friendly and suitable for casual water play. The lush green vegetation enhances the aesthetic appeal and likely provides some shade and a sense of being immersed in nature. The mention that campsite are suitable for "2 medium size tents" gives an idea of the capacity of individual sites, which is helpful for planning purposes. The presence of super clean and accessible restrooms with lights is a significant positive feature, indicating that at least some of the restroom facilities are well-maintained and user-friendly. However, the negative feedback regarding the vault toilets is a feature that potential campers should be aware of and perhaps prepare for accordingly.

Elkhorn Valley Recreation Site Reviews
Great location with easy access to shallow areas to play in river & lush green vegetation. The only thing keeping it from 5 stars is the vault toilets which were the worst I've ever experienced.
Aug 15, 2018 · Jill BilkaNice and neat, campsite are for 2 medium size tents. Super clean restrooms and accessible with lights.
Sep 09, 2019 · Jaime cancholaThis was beautiful! I absolutely loved it. Thank you.
Oct 20, 2020 · April SjolanderRiver was inaccessible to small children and disabled due to incline. The pit toilets were the most disgusting I've ever smelled. Nearly vomited every time we had to use them. That alone really makes us question whether we want to return. There was nice shade though and campsites at least we're clean and many were somewhat private.
Aug 09, 2019 · Lyn CFound this spot earlier this summer, just as a day pass visit. But I finally got to tent camp there too! Besides some minor inconveniences, (picking up other people's left behind garbage and some bee's) this was a great place to unplug, dip in the river and go on easy to moderate hikes (found the caves!!).
