Three Pools Day Use Area Introduce
For local residents of Oregon, particularly those in the vicinity of Gates and even extending towards the Tigard area, seeking an exceptional natural day-use destination within the "camping near me" category (often implying nearby recreational spots), Three Pools Day Use Area offers a truly remarkable experience. Located at NF-2207, Gates, OR 97346, USA, and reachable by phone at (541) 225-6300 or +1 541-225-6300, this location has garnered high praise for its stunning beauty and unique natural features, making it a worthwhile trip for a refreshing day outdoors.
The environment of Three Pools Day Use Area is consistently described in glowing terms by visitors. One reviewer hails it as "one of the most beautiful, pristine heavenly places I've camped at in Oregon," immediately setting a high expectation for its natural allure. The key features contributing to this exceptional environment are the "crystal clear pools," a "roaring waterfall," and a "beach area" alongside a "large shallow wading area." This diverse landscape within a single location offers a variety of ways to enjoy the water and the surrounding natural beauty. The clarity of the pools suggests pristine water quality, inviting for swimming and exploration. The roaring waterfall adds a dramatic and scenic element, likely contributing to the area's ambiance with its sights and sounds. The beach area, while noted to be gravel rather than sand, still provides a space for relaxation and access to the water, while the large shallow wading area is perfect for children and even well-behaved pets to enjoy the water safely.
The journey to this natural paradise, however, requires some consideration. As noted by a visitor, "The last few miles are on windy gravel roads which sometimes have some deep potholes. So the last stretch slows things down. And you want to make sure your shocks & struts are working!" This information is crucial for local users planning a trip, as it highlights the need for caution and potentially a vehicle that can handle unpaved, possibly uneven roads. The fact that it's a "solid 2 hours from Tigard" also indicates that while worth the trip, it's not just around the corner for those in the greater Portland metropolitan area, suggesting it's a destination chosen for its specific appeal rather than mere convenience.
Despite its popularity, both before and after the pandemic, visitors have reported a friendly atmosphere and respect for social distancing guidelines. This suggests that even when crowded, the overall environment remains positive and considerate, enhancing the experience for everyone. The water temperature, even in the summer, is described as "cold but refreshing," which is typical of mountain-fed waters in Oregon and can be particularly welcome on a warm day.
While the provided information focuses primarily on the natural environment and the experience of visitors, we can infer some of the services and features typically associated with a day-use area, especially one as popular as Three Pools:
- **Parking Facilities:** Given the popularity, there is likely a designated parking area to accommodate visitors, although it might get crowded during peak times.
- **Access to the Water:** The description highlights easy access to the pools, waterfall, beach area, and wading area.
- **Potential for Trails:** A location with such diverse natural features might also offer trails for exploring the surrounding area and getting different perspectives of the pools and waterfall.
- **Picnic Areas:** Day-use areas often include picnic tables where visitors can enjoy meals and snacks.
- **Restroom Facilities:** Basic restroom facilities, which could range from vault toilets to more developed structures, are a common necessity at popular recreational sites.
- **Signage and Information:** There might be signs providing information about the area, safety guidelines, and any specific regulations.
- **Waste Disposal:** Provisions for visitors to dispose of their trash to help maintain the pristine environment.
The key features of Three Pools Day Use Area that would appeal to local users are its exceptional natural beauty and the variety of water-related activities it offers. The "crystal clear pools" are undoubtedly a major draw, likely offering opportunities for swimming and enjoying the pristine water. The "roaring waterfall" provides a stunning visual and auditory experience. The "beach area" (gravel) serves as a place to relax by the water, and the "large shallow wading area" makes it an ideal destination for families with children and even those wanting to bring their dogs (well-behaved furry family). The overall impression is that of a natural water park, offering different types of water experiences within a relatively contained and beautiful setting.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information provided for Three Pools Day Use Area. However, the overwhelmingly positive reviews and the description of its unique natural features serve as a powerful form of organic promotion. For local users searching for "day use near me" that offers exceptional beauty and diverse water activities, the word-of-mouth and online buzz surrounding Three Pools are likely to be very influential. To further attract local visitors, the managing authorities could consider:
- **Highlighting the Family-Friendly Aspects:** Emphasizing the safe wading area for children and the potential for family picnics could attract local families.
- **Showcasing the Natural Beauty:** High-quality photos and videos of the crystal clear pools and the waterfall in local advertising or on relevant online platforms could entice potential visitors.
- **Providing Information on Road Conditions:** Regularly updating information about the condition of the gravel road leading to the site could help visitors prepare and manage expectations.
- **Promoting Responsible Recreation:** Encouraging visitors to maintain the cleanliness of the area and respect the natural environment would align with the apparent ethos of those who appreciate its pristine state.
- **Potential for Off-Season Appeal:** If the area offers beauty beyond the summer swimming season (e.g., fall colors, winter scenery), promoting its year-round appeal could attract local hikers and nature enthusiasts.
In conclusion, Three Pools Day Use Area near Gates, Oregon, stands out as a local gem offering an extraordinary natural environment characterized by crystal clear pools, a roaring waterfall, a beach area, and a large shallow wading area. While the journey involves some travel on windy gravel roads, the overwhelmingly positive feedback from visitors underscores that the destination is well worth the effort. For local residents seeking a "day use near me" location that feels like a "little resort" of natural beauty and offers diverse water-based recreation for all ages (including well-behaved pets), Three Pools is a must-visit. Its pristine environment and unique features promise a refreshing and memorable day trip in the heart of Oregon's natural wonders.

Three Pools Day Use Area Reviews
The Pools are a solid 2 hours from Tigard but definitely worth the trip! The last few miles are on windy gravel roads which sometimes have some deep potholes. So the last stretch slows things down. And you want to make sure your shocks & struts are working! It’s always been a popular destination both before and after the pandemic. But everyone is super-friendly and respects the social distancing guidelines.Even in the Summer the water is cold but refreshing. It’s like a little resort: crystal clear pools, a roaring waterfall, a beach area (with gravel not sand), and a large shallow wading area great for kids and well-behaved furry family.
Oct 29, 2020 · Peter CarlesimoThis is one of the most beautiful, prostine heavenly places I've camped at in Oregon. It's a hour and half drive and i make this trip as often as possible.
Sep 25, 2019 · BADASS GRANNYNot a 5 star because it's dirty. Incredibly beautiful place, but poorly maintained by the users. Lots of trash at the beach area and near the pools. The access to this area should be better controlled and law enforcement must be present.
Aug 05, 2019 · Daniel MussapLoved the scenery and crystal clear water even if it was cold, great spot to sit back and relax, swim, dive in the deeper areas, and hike nearby the Opal Creek. It does get quite full in the summer so be there early as there is limited space and shade but other that it's unlike no other and a must see!
