No see-um bugs eat you up. Cable inoperative, Wi-Fi inoperative during my visit in late December. The washroom was decent, toilet overflowing and shut down for days. The washers were inoperative. The Famcamp staff in the office has 1 rude, condescending employee. The camp host was excellent! The sites are small and crowded. We found several state parks much more attractive for only a few dollars more.I like the area but won't return there again - Rick Avery

FamCamp Office MacDill AFB RV Park Introduce

For local residents in the Tampa, Florida area searching for "camping near me," FamCamp Office MacDill AFB RV Park, located at 9909 Marina Bay Dr, Tampa, FL 33621, USA, presents a unique option as a military-affiliated campground. With contact numbers (813) 840-6919 and +1 813-840-6919, this RV park offers camping opportunities that might appeal to military families, veterans, and potentially other eligible individuals seeking a local RV camping experience. Based on the available customer reviews, the park presents a mixed picture of value and potential drawbacks, which local users should consider.

The environment of FamCamp Office MacDill AFB RV Park is described by one reviewer as "picturesque Paradise," suggesting a potentially scenic location. Given its presence on MacDill Air Force Base and the "Marina Bay Dr" address, it's plausible that the park is situated near water, possibly offering views of or access to a bay or marina. This could contribute to a pleasant and relaxing camping environment for local users who appreciate waterfront settings. The mention of taking a pontoon boat out suggests the potential for water-related recreational activities, although this might be an amenity specifically for those with base access or through a specific program like the "saver card" mentioned.

However, another reviewer found the sites to be "small and crowded," which might be a significant consideration for local RV owners accustomed to more spacious campgrounds. This suggests that while the location might be appealing, the layout and size of individual campsites could be a limiting factor for some.

In terms of services and features, the reviews provide some insights, both positive and negative:

Positive Aspects:

  • Value: One reviewer noted that the FamCamp is an "outstanding value," suggesting that the pricing might be competitive compared to other RV parks in the Tampa area. This could be a significant draw for local users looking for affordable "camping near me" options.
  • Family-Friendly and Quiet: The park is described as "family friendly" and "quiet," which are desirable attributes for many local campers seeking a peaceful and safe environment for their families.
  • Friendly Regulars and Helpful Staff: The presence of friendly regular campers and a "very helpful" staff (specifically mentioning the camp host as "excellent") can contribute positively to the overall camping experience and sense of community.
  • Potential Amenities: The mention of a "saver card" and taking a pontoon boat out indicates the possibility of additional amenities or benefits available to campers, although the specifics and eligibility for these are not detailed.

Negative Aspects:

  • Bug Issues: One significant concern raised is the presence of "no see-um bugs" that "eat you up." This could be a seasonal or ongoing issue that local users camping in the area should be aware of and prepared for with appropriate insect repellent.
  • Inoperative Utilities: During a visit in late December, a reviewer experienced inoperative cable and Wi-Fi. Reliable connectivity is often important for travelers, even on local camping trips, so this potential issue should be noted.
  • Washroom Problems: The washroom facilities were described as "decent" initially, but a toilet was reported as overflowing and shut down for days. This raises concerns about the maintenance and reliability of the restroom facilities.
  • Inoperative Washers: The washing machines were also reported as not working, which could be inconvenient for longer stays, even for local campers who might want to do laundry during their time at the park.
  • Rude Staff: One reviewer mentioned a "rude, condescending employee" in the office. While this seems to be an isolated comment about one individual, it highlights a potential inconsistency in customer service.
  • Small and Crowded Sites: As mentioned earlier, the small and crowded nature of the campsites was a drawback for one reviewer, who found state parks more attractive for a slightly higher price. This suggests that space and privacy might be limited at FamCamp.

Considering these mixed reviews, local users searching for "camping near me" at FamCamp Office MacDill AFB RV Park should weigh the potential benefits of value and a potentially scenic, family-friendly environment against the reported issues with bugs, inoperative utilities, and potentially cramped sites. The positive experiences with the camp host and friendly regulars are encouraging, but the negative feedback regarding infrastructure and staff should not be overlooked.

Promotional Information and Considerations for Local Users:

  • Affordability: FamCamp's potential as an "outstanding value" could be a key promotional point for local campers on a budget. Highlighting the cost-effectiveness compared to private RV parks in the Tampa area could attract price-sensitive users.
  • Military Affiliation: For military families, veterans, and those with base access, the affiliation with MacDill AFB might offer a sense of community and security. Promotions could target this demographic specifically.
  • Location and Potential Scenery: Emphasizing the possibly picturesque location near Marina Bay could attract local users who appreciate waterfront views and potential access to related activities.
  • Family-Friendly Atmosphere: Promoting the quiet and family-friendly nature of the park could appeal to local families looking for a safe and enjoyable camping experience.
  • Addressing Concerns: To attract more local users, the management might consider addressing the issues raised in the negative reviews, such as bug control, utility maintenance, restroom reliability, and customer service training for staff. Transparency about these efforts could improve the park's reputation.
  • Highlighting Unique Amenities: If the "saver card" and pontoon boat access are available to a broader range of campers (or if there are other unique amenities), these should be clearly promoted to showcase what FamCamp offers beyond basic RV sites.

For local users considering a stay at FamCamp Office MacDill AFB RV Park as a "camping near me" option, it would be prudent to contact the park directly at the provided phone numbers to inquire about current conditions, utility functionality, bug issues, and site availability. Asking about any eligibility requirements for staying at a military-affiliated campground is also essential. Additionally, searching for more recent reviews on other platforms might provide a more up-to-date perspective on the park's current state and services.

In conclusion, FamCamp Office MacDill AFB RV Park in Tampa offers a potentially valuable and family-friendly camping option for local users, particularly those with military connections. The scenic location near Marina Bay and the friendly community are positive aspects. However, potential drawbacks such as bug issues, inoperative utilities, cramped sites, and reported customer service inconsistencies should be carefully considered. Local campers are advised to seek current information and weigh these factors against their priorities when choosing a "camping near me" destination.
