Forest Lake Campground Introduce
For local residents searching for "camping near me" in the picturesque landscapes of southern New Hampshire, Forest Lake Campground in Winchester offers a conveniently located and welcoming outdoor retreat. Situated at 331 Keene Rd, Winchester, NH 03470, this campground provides a range of amenities and a friendly atmosphere for those seeking a traditional camping experience with lake access.
Forest Lake Campground benefits from its proximity to Forest Lake, offering campers the opportunity to enjoy various water-based activities. The lake is reportedly great for swimming, providing a refreshing escape during the warmer months. Fishing enthusiasts will appreciate the chance to cast their lines and potentially reel in a local catch. Furthermore, the lake accommodates boating, allowing visitors to explore the waters and enjoy scenic views from a different perspective. Bringing your own boat opens up a wider range of recreational possibilities on the lake.
The campground offers a variety of camping options to suit different needs. While specific details about the types and number of campsites (e.g., tent sites, RV sites with hookups) are not explicitly provided in the reviews, the mention of "lots of seasonal campers" suggests the availability of longer-term arrangements, which often implies the presence of both seasonal and transient sites. The positive feedback regarding easy navigation within the campground indicates a well-organized layout, making it simple for newcomers to find their way around.
In terms of services and amenities, Forest Lake Campground appears to prioritize cleanliness and convenience. The availability of clean bathrooms, even if lightly used, is a notable feature. The inclusion of free hot showers is a significant perk for campers looking to freshen up after a day of outdoor activities. The campground also offers some organized activities, such as Bingo on Saturday nights, providing opportunities for social interaction and entertainment among guests.
A key aspect highlighted in the reviews is the strong sense of community at Forest Lake Campground. It's described as a "very close knit" environment where "everyone knows everyone." While this contributes to a welcoming atmosphere and a feeling of belonging, it's worth noting that newcomers might initially perceive this established dynamic. However, one reviewer explicitly stated they "didn't feel uncomfortable," suggesting that the community is generally inclusive.
The campground is also noted to be dog-friendly, which is a significant advantage for campers who wish to bring their canine companions along on their outdoor adventures. This allows pet owners to enjoy the natural surroundings without having to leave their furry friends behind.
While the overall experience seems positive, one area mentioned for potential improvement is the playground, which is described as needing updating. This suggests that while the campground caters to a range of visitors, families with young children specifically seeking modern playground facilities might find this aspect lacking. One reviewer suggested that the campground might be "mainly for adults," although they also noted the presence of some children.
The pricing at Forest Lake Campground is described as "very fair," making it an attractive option for budget-conscious campers in the local area. Considering the amenities offered, particularly the lake access and free hot showers, the reviewers suggest that the campground provides good value for the price.
The owner, described as a pleasant widow who "keeps things moving," appears to play a positive role in managing the campground and ensuring a smooth operation. This personal touch can often contribute to a more welcoming and well-maintained environment.
For local users searching for "camping near me" that offers lake access for swimming, fishing, and boating, along with essential amenities like clean bathrooms and free hot showers, Forest Lake Campground in Winchester, NH, presents a viable option. The strong sense of community and dog-friendly policy are additional benefits. While the playground may need updating, the fair prices and overall positive experiences reported by other campers make it a campground worth considering for your next outdoor getaway. Bringing bikes or golf carts is recommended for easier navigation within the campground due to its layout.

Forest Lake Campground Reviews
Campground is easy to locate, very fair prices, clean bathrooms(no one really uses them), free hot showers, some decent activities, easy to get around, dog friendly, and lots of seasonal campers. The beach area is fairly nice. This campground is very close knit and it seems everyone knows everyone. I didn't feel uncomfortable, playground needs updating, not super kid friendly if that's what you're looking for. I would say it's mainly for adults, but there were a few kids. For the price and the what you get, I would say it's a great option. The owner , who is a widow seems pleasant and keeps things moving!
Jun 23, 2024 · Jeanine MunozHad a great weekend at Forest Lake Campground. Brought the boat - the lake is great for swimming, fishing and boating. Played Bingo on Saturday night. Campground is clean and has a great layout - recommend to bringing bikes or golf carts to get around. Wonderful place for families, couples, anyone looking for a great camping experience.
Aug 28, 2018 · StephaniePaid in full for a week in July, we stay here every year. Learned in May that I had cancer and would need surgery and weekly chemo until the end of September. Contacted Forest Lake Campground in May to cancel reservation, discussed options and was told we could carry our week over for later. Just received the all clear from my Dr today. Called to make reservations and was told they would not honor our already paid week. They said we would not get our money back either. Won’t stay here again as they are not people of their word.
Sep 17, 2024 · katherine baldwinOne of the best old school campgrounds I have been too! Golf cart friendly the locals are all very nice. Kids can swim in the lake or go fishing and the fishing is good!
Aug 17, 2021 · Chris SanderHuge seasonal area. Didn't look like many sites available for campers. We had a pull through, level ( didn't have to do any leveling). Very reasonable prices! Beautiful clean lake/ beach. People doing maintenance were friendly and polite. Do not accept CC or Debit cards. Nice and relaxing.
