Situated within or in close proximity to the renowned New River Trail State Park, Foster Falls Campground offers a picturesque and tranquil setting for outdoor enthusiasts. Reviews from recent visitors provide valuable insights into the environment, services, and features of this campground, as well as some considerations for potential campers.
The environment surrounding Foster Falls Campground is consistently praised as "gorgeous and quiet." Its location near the New River Trail State Park suggests access to stunning natural landscapes, likely including the New River itself, wooded areas, and potentially views of the Foster Falls, a prominent feature of the state park. The peaceful atmosphere makes it an appealing destination for those seeking a relaxing escape into nature, a key desire for many users searching within the "camping near me" category.
In terms of services, Foster Falls Campground appears to provide essential amenities for a comfortable camping experience. The availability of restrooms is specifically mentioned and noted to be clean, which is a significant factor for many campers. Additionally, an adequate water source is available within the campground. For those interested in exploring the area, the campground's proximity to the New River Trail State Park offers direct access to its extensive network of trails, popular for activities like biking and hiking. However, one reviewer noted the difficulty encountered when trying to insert tent stakes into the ground, suggesting potentially hard or rocky terrain in some campsites.
The features of Foster Falls Campground cater to both individual campers and potentially smaller groups. The direct access to the New River Trail is a major highlight, providing opportunities for scenic biking and walking adventures right from the campground. The quiet and beautiful location enhances the overall camping experience, allowing for a peaceful retreat. However, a significant feature, or rather a limitation noted by a reviewer, is the apparent lack of dedicated group campsites, unlike what is available in some other state parks. This can make booking and logistical planning for large groups, such as scout troops, quite expensive and challenging.
One long-term visitor raised concerns regarding interactions with staff and rangers regarding electric personal vehicles (PEVs). The reviewer, who has been staying at the location for over 20 years, expressed frustration at being repeatedly reminded of outdated rules and regulations concerning electric devices on the trail, especially given the allowance of electric bikes. The reviewer requested an update of these rules to reflect modern technology and a greater degree of respect for regular visitors within the campground.
Currently, specific promotional information for Foster Falls Campground is not evident in the provided reviews. As a state park campground, it is likely that reservations can be made through the Virginia State Parks reservation system. This system might offer information on seasonal rates, potential discounts for longer stays (if applicable), and any required entrance or camping fees. Local users interested in camping at Foster Falls should consult the official Virginia State Parks website for the most accurate and up-to-date details on pricing, availability, and any ongoing promotions or special offers.
Despite the noted challenges for large group bookings and the concerns raised by a long-term visitor regarding outdated regulations and repeated reminders, Foster Falls Campground still appears to be a highly valued location for camping, particularly for those seeking a beautiful and tranquil setting with direct access to the New River Trail State Park. The clean restrooms and adequate water source contribute to a comfortable stay. For local users searching within the "camping near me" category who prioritize scenic beauty and access to biking and hiking trails, Foster Falls Campground remains a strong contender.
In conclusion, Foster Falls Campground in Max Meadows, VA, offers a "gorgeous and quiet" camping environment adjacent to the popular New River Trail State Park. While it provides essential services like clean restrooms and water, potential campers should be aware of the possibility of hard ground for tent stakes and the current limitations for booking large group campsites. Foster Falls Campground Reviews
Excellent time camping here with scout troop and biking the trail. Location is gorgeous and quiet. Hard getting tent stakes in the ground here. Wish there were group campsites like other states parks. It's quite expensive and logistically challenging to book for a large group. Restrooms were clean and water source was adequate.
Nov 16, 2023 · Allan BuccolaThe only issues I have with this location after staying here for more than 20 years is the staff and rangers talking to me every time about my electric pev. I'm well aware of the outdated rules and regulations regarding electric devices of the trail, although it's okay for electric bikes. Update your rules for the modern world we live in. And from someone who stays here regularly, I'd appreciate respect in the campground instead of feeling the need to tell me the rules every time.
Sep 13, 2023 · Damien CarterGreat place for camping, daytrips, swimming, tubing and kayaking. Trails are nice too. Park staff are very knowledgeable and nice. One of my favorite places.
Sep 28, 2024 · Phoebe EdwardsThe view is not as pretty as the other sections of the f the trail, and the falls are tiny. This area has a boat launch where the falls are. It also has an historic village, and the LOVE sign. It has a small building with restrooms, and plenty of parking spaces it also has a camp store.
Jan 20, 2020 · Tilly LoI LOVE this place. It is a happy place for me. So glad to see they are open fully again. The trails are always well maintained, and the views and grounds are just so pretty.
