Looking for "camping near me" in the Freeport/Durham, Maine area? Freeport / Durham KOA Holiday, located at 82 Big Skye Ln, Durham, ME 04222, USA, offers a range of camping options, including RV sites, tent sites, and cabins. You can reach them at (207) 688-4288 or their mobile number, +1 207-688-4288, for reservations and inquiries. Based on recent customer reviews, experiences at this KOA appear to be somewhat mixed, with positive mentions of the staff and newer facilities contrasted by concerns about specific site locations and noise.
The environment of Freeport / Durham KOA Holiday seems to offer spacious campsites, as noted by one reviewer. However, the experience can vary depending on the location of your site. RV sites beginning with 'B' are reported to have a quarry directly behind them, leading to noise from big trucks starting as early as 7:00 am. This is an important consideration for those seeking a peaceful morning. On the other hand, the campground is situated in Durham, Maine, which is generally a rural area, suggesting that other parts of the campground might offer a more tranquil setting. One reviewer also mentioned that the roads within the campground "could use some TLC," possibly indicating wear and tear from a busy season.
In terms of services, the staff at Freeport / Durham KOA Holiday are generally viewed positively, with one reviewer describing them as "very nice" and another as "friendly enough." The campground also boasts a "great gift shop," which can be a convenient amenity for campers. A newer bathhouse is mentioned as being "nice," suggesting that some of the facilities are modern and well-maintained. However, one significant issue raised was the lack of enforcement of quiet hours, with one group of campers being loud late into the night, impacting the peace of other guests.
Features of this KOA include a variety of accommodation types: RV sites, tent sites, and cabins. The spaciousness of the campsites is a plus. However, the experience at a group tent site, specifically E37, was highly negative. This site was described as inadequate, serving more as a thoroughfare and extra parking for a group occupying nearby cabins. The lack of privacy and the constant foot traffic, including those using headlamps, made it an undesirable location. Additionally, the closure of the store an hour earlier than expected on one evening inconvenienced guests who wanted to purchase firewood. It seems that while some areas of the campground, like the newer bathhouse and possibly the actual tent sites (excluding E37), are adequate, the experience can be heavily influenced by the specific site assigned.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information available from the provided reviews. As a KOA Holiday campground, Freeport / Durham KOA likely participates in KOA's rewards program and may offer seasonal promotions. Local users interested in any special deals should check the official KOA website or contact the campground directly.
For local users searching for "camping near me" in the Freeport/Durham area, Freeport / Durham KOA Holiday offers a location that is potentially convenient. However, it's crucial to be aware of the potential drawbacks mentioned in the reviews. If you are booking an RV site, you might want to avoid those starting with 'B' due to the proximity to the quarry and the associated noise. If you are booking a tent site, it would be wise to specifically request to avoid site E37 based on the negative experience reported.
In summary, Freeport / Durham KOA Holiday has friendly staff and a nice newer bathhouse, along with spacious campsites. However, the internal roads may need maintenance, and certain RV sites suffer from early morning noise due to a nearby quarry. One group tent site, E37, was reported to be poorly situated and disruptive. Local users should inquire about specific site conditions when making a reservation to ensure a more satisfactory "camping near me" experience.
To get the most accurate information on site availability, pricing, and any ongoing promotions, it is recommended that local users contact Freeport / Durham KOA Holiday directly using the provided phone numbers or visit the official KOA website. When booking, it would be prudent to ask about the location of the site relative to potential noise sources or other issues highlighted in the reviews.

Freeport / Durham KOA Holiday Reviews
Very nice staff! The roads could use some TLC …..probably just worn out from a busy season! Campsites are spacious but the rv sites that begin with B have a quarry right behind them and the big trucks begin at 7:00 am! A little loud! Great gift shop!
Oct 19, 2024 · Mrs DDDWe reserved a group tent site and were given E37 for 2 nights. To call this a site, let alone a group tent site, is a stretch. All the cabins in the vicinity were occupied by the same group, making our site little more than a short cut and extra parking spot for them. They walked right through the middle of our site all weekend, headlamps and everything. Friday night they were up until after 1am with no enforcement of quiet hours. We had to leave the campground to get any peace. When we returned after dinner on Saturday evening we found the store had closed an hour early, leaving us unable to purchase firewood for the night. The staff was friendly enough, the newer bathhouse was nice, and the actual tent sites looked ok but DO NOT let them put you at E37 unless you just want to be an awkward inconvenience for those around you. They should just make the site an extra 2 parking spots for the cabins.
Aug 05, 2024 · Joshua RegulaWe had a wonderful stay at the Freeport/Durham KOA. The staff were friendly, the place was clean and our campsite in the woods was quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed the extra activities for the kids, as well as the pool and the playground. The highlight was being able to pet the beautiful horses and cute donkey. We would definitely recommend this campground!
Aug 26, 2024 · Tamara DeVriesWe enjoyed our stay! Typical, no frills tent site which was perfect for a short trip to Maine. Within 30-45 minutes of greater Portland attractions! The only negative thing is that the bathhouse could have been tidier. I often found the showers to be dirty. Also there is a quarry next door so it was a little noisy for a tent site, but I don’t think you could hear any noise if you were RV’Ing. However, for the price and amenities, they did a good job building this KOA. Seems to be a local favorite, lots of seasonal campers it looks like. Keep in mind nearest towns are 15-30 minute drive so you may have to drive to see any attractions, beach, or to find restaurants.
