Gifford Campground

3579 WA-25, Gifford, WA 99131, USA

4.0
We have been going here for at least 13 years. We love it. We camp with our RV. I have gone with my husband and dogs. Plus my kids and there family. The hosts ( Dennis and Gladys) became our dear friends from the moment we met them. It has about 44 spots in 3 different loops. Recently it has changed from first come first serve to Online reservations only. That made us go a little less since the better and shadier spots get reserved first now. All have cement pads. Hit and miss to get a flat one. But levelers help. The bathrooms are usually very clean. Sometimes the port-a-pottys can get dirty after major holidays. Also a great group camp at the end. Love fishing for walleye in our pontoon that we moor there also. - Vicki Ray

Gifford Campground Introduce

For local users in Washington State searching for 'camping near me,' Gifford Campground, located at 3579 WA-25, Gifford, WA 99131, USA, offers a long-established lakeside camping experience on the shores of Lake Roosevelt. Based on customer reviews, this campground has been a beloved destination for many years, though recent changes and inherent characteristics should be considered by prospective visitors.

One long-time camper, who has been visiting for at least 13 years, expresses a deep affection for Gifford Campground, highlighting its suitability for RV camping and accommodating various groups, including couples with dogs and extended families with children. This enduring popularity suggests a fundamentally appealing environment and experience. A significant aspect of their positive experience was the connection with the campground hosts, Dennis and Gladys, who became 'dear friends,' indicating a welcoming and community-oriented atmosphere fostered by the management.

The campground features approximately 44 campsites spread across three different loops. A notable recent change is the transition from a first-come, first-served system to online reservations only. While this provides the convenience of securing a spot in advance, the long-time visitor notes a potential downside: the 'better and shadier spots get reserved first now,' which might impact the spontaneity of visits and the availability of preferred sites for those booking later. All campsites are equipped with cement pads, which is a significant amenity for stability and cleanliness, although the flatness of these pads can vary, necessitating the use of levelers for some sites.

The restroom facilities at Gifford Campground are generally well-regarded, with the reviewer stating they are 'usually very clean.' However, a potential issue to be aware of is the condition of the portable toilets ('port-a-pottys'), which can become dirty after major holidays due to increased usage. This suggests that while the main bathrooms are maintained, the supplemental facilities might experience temporary degradation during peak periods.

For groups, Gifford Campground offers a 'great group camp at the end,' providing a designated area for larger gatherings. This feature enhances its appeal for family reunions or group outings. A major attraction of the location is the opportunity for fishing, particularly for walleye, on Lake Roosevelt, with the reviewer mentioning mooring their pontoon boat there. This indicates direct lake access and facilities suitable for boating enthusiasts.

Another reviewer provides a more nuanced perspective, acknowledging Gifford Campground as 'nice' and highlighting several positive amenities: flush toilets, an outdoor shower, paved spots (likely the cement pads mentioned by the other reviewer), a water spigot, and an RV dump/water station. These features cater well to RV campers and those seeking more comfort than primitive camping. The campground also boasts 'access to and expansive views of lake from most spots,' which is a significant environmental advantage, allowing many campers to enjoy the scenic beauty of Lake Roosevelt directly from their sites.

However, this reviewer also points out two potential drawbacks. Firstly, 'many sites are arranged such that they are tight with others and lacking adequate privacy/personal area.' This contradicts the first reviewer's experience of spaciousness and suggests variability in site layout or perception of privacy. Potential visitors should be aware that while some sites might offer more seclusion, others could feel quite close to neighboring campers. Secondly, the 'noise from the ferry is fairly constant from early to late.' This is an important environmental factor to consider for those seeking a truly tranquil experience, as the regular operation of a ferry could introduce significant and persistent noise pollution throughout the day.

A brief note mentions that staying in site #13 on a Monday in August resulted in a 'nearly empty campground.' This suggests that the occupancy levels can vary significantly depending on the day of the week and the time of year. Weekdays and the off-season might offer a quieter and less crowded experience compared to weekends and peak summer months.

Considering the information from both reviews, Gifford Campground offers a lakeside setting on Lake Roosevelt with amenities catering to both tent and RV campers, including flush toilets, an outdoor shower, paved sites, water access, and RV hookups. It is a popular destination with a loyal following, likely due to its scenic location and opportunities for boating and fishing. However, potential drawbacks include the online reservation system potentially making prime spots harder to secure, the occasional condition of portable toilets after peak holidays, the potential for tight campsite arrangements and lack of privacy in some areas, and the constant noise from a nearby ferry.

As no specific promotional information is provided in the reviews, local users interested in Gifford Campground should visit the online reservation system (likely through the Washington State Parks website or a similar platform) to check availability, view campsite maps to assess spacing and proximity to the lake or ferry route, and learn about any current fees or special offers. It would also be beneficial to read any official descriptions of the campground provided by the managing authority to get a comprehensive overview of the services and features available.

In conclusion, Gifford Campground offers a well-equipped camping experience on the picturesque shores of Lake Roosevelt, making it a desirable option for those searching for 'camping near me' in eastern Washington. The availability of RV amenities, lake access for boating and fishing, and generally clean facilities are significant advantages. However, prospective visitors should be mindful of the potential for limited privacy at some campsites and the noise from the ferry, and should utilize the online reservation system to select a site that best meets their preferences. Checking official campground information for any specific rules, regulations, or promotional offers is also recommended to ensure a well-planned and enjoyable camping trip.
