Green Lakes Campground Introduce
For local residents in the Rock Island, Illinois area searching for "camping near me," Green Lakes Campground, located at 2311 78th Ave W, Rock Island, IL 61201, USA, presents itself as an option. It's important to note, based on recent customer feedback, that this campground was formerly affiliated with KOA (Kampgrounds of America) but is no longer part of that network. This change may impact the reservation system and potentially some of the services or standards previously associated with KOA campgrounds.
One positive aspect highlighted in a review from early last summer (2022) describes a "great experience." The reviewer specifically enjoyed their back-in campsite, which featured a concrete pad that was particularly suitable for their 36' motorhome. The presence of concrete pads can be a significant advantage for RV owners, providing a level and stable surface for parking and setting up. This positive experience suggests that the campground has the potential to offer enjoyable stays, particularly for RV travelers.
However, more recent feedback indicates a shift in the overall perception of the campground. One reviewer expressed disappointment upon receiving notification that the campground is no longer a KOA. Their reasoning was based on their reliance on the "convenience and simplicity" of the KOA reservation system. This suggests that local users who previously utilized the KOA platform for booking may need to adapt to a new reservation process for Green Lakes Campground.
Adding to this, another reviewer, while acknowledging that the location was previously known as "KOA rock island," shared experiences from two separate stays, both of which were described as "a let down." A significant concern raised was the perceived lack of value, with the campground being labeled as "expensive for what you get." This suggests that the pricing may not align with the amenities or the overall camping experience offered, at least in the opinion of this particular reviewer.
Another critical point of feedback concerns the size of the campsites, which were described as "tiny sites." For campers, especially those with larger vehicles or those who appreciate having ample space around their campsite, small sites can lead to a less comfortable and enjoyable experience. It's essential for potential visitors to consider the size of their camping setup and inquire about the dimensions of the available sites at Green Lakes Campground.
Furthermore, the same reviewer recounted an issue with their booking, stating, "Last time we did not even get the site we booked." This is a significant concern as it indicates a potential problem with the campground's reservation management. Receiving a different site than the one booked can be disruptive and disappointing, especially if the alternative site is less desirable or doesn't adequately accommodate the camper's needs.
Considering this feedback, local users searching for "camping near me" and considering Green Lakes Campground should be aware of these recent experiences. While past stays may have been positive, more recent reviews highlight potential drawbacks such as perceived high cost relative to the value, small campsite sizes, and issues with reservation accuracy. The change in affiliation from KOA may also impact the overall service and reservation process.
To gain a more comprehensive understanding of the current state of Green Lakes Campground, local users are strongly encouraged to contact them directly using the provided phone numbers: (309) 787-0665 or +1 309-787-0665. Speaking with the campground management can provide up-to-date information on campsite availability, pricing, site dimensions, the current reservation system, and any amenities offered. It would be prudent to inquire specifically about the size of the campsites and the process for ensuring that the booked site is the one provided upon arrival.
While the reviews provide some insight into the experiences of past visitors, the environment and specific features of Green Lakes Campground are not extensively detailed. Potential features might include restroom and shower facilities, water hookups at some sites, and possibly recreational areas. The "Green Lakes" in the name could suggest proximity to one or more lakes, which might offer opportunities for fishing or scenic views, although this is speculative based solely on the name.
Given the mixed feedback, local users should weigh the positive mention of concrete pads for RVs against the concerns regarding cost, site size, and reservation issues. The change in KOA affiliation is also a factor to consider, as it may indicate changes in standards or services. Direct communication with the campground is crucial to obtain the most accurate and current information before making a decision about staying at Green Lakes Campground for your "camping near me" needs in the Rock Island area.
In conclusion, Green Lakes Campground in Rock Island, IL, formerly known as Rock Island KOA, offers concrete pads that may be appealing to RV travelers. However, recent reviews raise concerns about the cost relative to the perceived value, the small size of the campsites, and potential issues with the accuracy of reservations. The campground is no longer affiliated with KOA, which may affect the reservation system and overall expectations. Local users searching for "camping near me" should contact the campground directly to inquire about current conditions, pricing, site dimensions, and the reservation process to make an informed decision.

Green Lakes Campground Reviews
Good place... Stayed here a couple different times... Early last summer 2022 was the latest, great experience...!!! Enjoyed our campsite, a back in, concrete pad was nice for our 36' motorhome. 👍💯 We will return...!!!😉😎(Wow..!!! Just received notification that this CG is no longer KOA. Kinda disappointed b/c I rely on the convenience and simplicity of their reservation system) 😕😕
Jan 05, 2023 · tom yodaDespite the name on Google maps, this is the KOA rock island. Been here 2 times and both times it has been a let down. Expensive for what you get. Tiny sites. Last time we did not even get the site we booked.
