Riverside Campground Introduce
For local residents in the Helena, Montana area searching within the "camping near me" category, Riverside Campground, located on Riverside Rd, Helena, MT 59602, USA, offers a compelling option for both RV and tent campers. Based on recent customer reviews, this campground is noted for its cleanliness, quiet atmosphere, and convenient access to water-based activities. While specific promotional information is not available, the consistent positive feedback regarding maintenance and amenities makes it a noteworthy consideration for your next camping adventure.
The environment of Riverside Campground is consistently described as "beautiful." Its location along the river, situated below a dam, suggests a scenic setting with potential for pleasant views and the soothing sounds of flowing water. The presence of a boat ramp "in the middle" of the campground highlights its direct access to the river, making it particularly appealing for those interested in boating and water recreation. The ample space around the boat ramp for trucks and trailers indicates that the campground is well-equipped to handle the needs of boat owners.
One of the standout features of Riverside Campground is the dedicated camp host who is frequently seen ensuring the grounds are clean. This proactive approach to maintenance is reflected in the positive comments about the "clean toilets" and the overall well-kept nature of the RV and campground area. This commitment to cleanliness contributes significantly to a comfortable and enjoyable camping experience for all visitors.
Riverside Campground is also praised for its tranquil atmosphere. It is described as "a quiet place during the day and even on the weekends," which is a significant advantage for those seeking a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life. This quiet environment makes it ideal for relaxation, enjoying nature, and getting a good night's sleep.
For those interested in fishing, Riverside Campground offers a convenient feature: "a small platform at the edge of the river for those who want to fish but don't have a boat." This provides an accessible fishing spot directly from the campground, allowing anglers to enjoy the river without the need for watercraft. The location below the dam might also be of interest to fishermen, as this area can sometimes be productive for certain fish species.
In terms of services and amenities, the reviews mention several key features:
- Boat Ramp: Located in the middle of the campground with sufficient space for trucks and trailers, providing direct access to the river for boating activities.
- Fishing Platform: A dedicated small platform at the river's edge for fishing without a boat.
- Clean Toilets: Consistently noted as being well-maintained.
- Potable Water: Available for campers' use.
- Trash Cans: Provided throughout the campground for waste disposal.
However, the reviews also highlight a couple of drawbacks that potential visitors should be aware of:
- No Overnight Boat Docking: One significant limitation is that there is "nowhere to dock your boat overnight." This is an important consideration for those planning to bring boats and stay multiple nights. They will need to find alternative arrangements for overnight boat storage.
- Online Reservations with Added Fee: Reservations can "only" be made online, and a fee is added to the total cost in addition to the site fee. The reviewer expressed a preference for a pay-by-envelope option at the campground, indicating that the online-only system and the extra fee are not universally favored.
- No Dump Station: One review explicitly states, "No dump station," which is crucial information for RV campers who require this service for waste disposal. They will need to plan accordingly and utilize dump stations at other locations.
- Late Check-In Time: Check-in time is at 5 pm, which one visitor found inconvenient as they arrived earlier and had to wait for their site to become available. This late check-in time is something to keep in mind when planning your arrival, especially if you anticipate reaching the campground earlier in the day.
Despite these drawbacks, the positive aspects of Riverside Campground, such as its beautiful environment, cleanliness, quiet atmosphere, and river access with a boat ramp and fishing platform, make it an attractive option for many. Local users seeking "camping near me" in Helena, Montana, who value these qualities and are prepared for the online reservation system, added fee, 5 pm check-in, lack of a dump station, and the inability to dock boats overnight, will likely find this campground a pleasant place to stay.
To summarize the key features and considerations for Riverside Campground:
- Pros:
- Beautiful riverside location below a dam.
- Well-maintained and clean facilities, including toilets.
- Quiet atmosphere during the day and weekends.
- Convenient boat ramp with ample space for trailers.
- Dedicated fishing platform for those without boats.

Riverside Campground Reviews
Beautiful and well-maintained RV/Campground . Host always in his buggy making sure the place is clean. Clean toilets. A quiet place during the day and even on the weekends. Campground has a boat ramp in the middle with plenty of space for those trucks and trailers. there is a small platform at the edge of the river for those who want to fish but don't have a boat. Located below the dam. Only drawback is that there is nowhere to dock your boat overnight. The other drawback is that you can only make reservations online and a fee is added to your cost besides the cost of your site. I wish they would allow pay by envelope at the campground.
Aug 31, 2024 · C JReally nice campground! The camp host is always driving around cleaning up to make sure the campground stays clean. They have potable water, trash cans, and bathrooms. No dump station.Only thing that sucks is check in isn’t till 5pm which we didn’t realize so we had to wait around till 4pm when the other camper left our site
Jun 12, 2024 · Maddie Cowell - LilMissJeepHerLooks like a fun little place for camping, fishing or water activities. It is marked closed due to flash flooding that wiped out most of the camping sites. The docks are open.
Sep 24, 2024 · SantiagoOne of the nicest campgrounds on the Missouri River. Camp host is diligent about maintaining the grounds and keeping bathrooms clean. Riverside and Canyon Lake dam views are hard to beat...
Jun 11, 2023 · Chuck TracyBeautiful! This is a awesome camping spot, spot 23. , I will post a photo a little more updated just cause there is no shade. The other photos show trees still there. The camp host Bob was amazing he was super helpful and dose a awesome job keeping the area clean. The restrooms were the cleanest I've ever seen. We will definitely try to come back again this year or next.
