For those seeking a more independent and nature-focused camping experience, Goose Bay is worth considering.

Environment and Location: Lakeside Beauty with Options
The environment at Disbursed Camping Goose Bay is highly praised by visitors. One camper described it as "one of the absolutely nicest free dispersed camping areas I've ever been to," highlighting its scenic appeal. The campground offers camping options both "up on the bluff overlooking the water" and "more inland in the meadows," providing a choice of views and settings. Some sites also feature trees, offering shade, while others are more open.
A significant feature is the direct "beach access," allowing campers to easily enjoy the lake. Swimming in the lake is also mentioned as a possibility. The presence of water naturally attracts certain insects, as noted by a reviewer who mentioned mosquitoes and biting flies, so preparedness for this is advisable.
Services and Amenities: Back to Basics with Clean Facilities
Disbursed Camping Goose Bay is described as a "dry campsite," meaning there is "no water, no electric, no sewer" hookups available. This aligns with the nature of dispersed camping, where the focus is on a more self-sufficient outdoor experience. Campers should come prepared with their own water and power solutions.
Despite the lack of utility hookups, the campground does offer some basic but appreciated amenities. Visitors have noted the presence of "vault toilet" and that "the restrooms are clean and odor free and scattered throughout." This is a significant plus for a free dispersed camping area, providing a level of convenience and hygiene.
Each campsite appears to be equipped with "rock fire rings" and "picnic tables," as mentioned by multiple reviewers. This adds to the functionality of the sites, making it easier to have campfires (where permitted and safe) and enjoy outdoor meals.
The layout of the camping area is such that "your neighbors aren’t close," contributing to a sense of privacy and space, which is a key benefit of dispersed camping. Additionally, there's a guideline that "folks are only allowed to camp where there’s a table," which likely helps to manage the density of campers and maintain some order within the dispersed setting.
Features and Accessibility: Level Sites and Varied Roads
One of the practical features highlighted by a camper is that "all areas are very flat," and most of the sites checked were "with a degree or two of level," making it easier to set up camp, especially for RVs and trailers. This is a significant advantage for comfort and convenience.
Regarding accessibility, the "main road to the campsite is gravel and has some minor washboarding but otherwise, okay to travel if you drive appropriately." However, it's important to be aware that "the condition of the minor roads to the individual sites varies from really good gravel to Jeep trail with bumps." Therefore, it is recommended to "scout before putting the expensive stuff on the road" to avoid any issues with larger vehicles or trailers.
A Note on Potential Drawbacks: Bugs and Occasional Noise
As mentioned earlier, one notable negative aspect is the presence of "mosquitoes and biting flies" due to the proximity to water. Campers are strongly advised to "plan accordingly" by bringing insect repellent, citronella, nets, or other protective measures. One visitor who was there in May noted that "there were a lot of flying bugs" even when it was still cool.
Overall, the campground is described as "quiet throughout the day and night," which is a major draw for those seeking a peaceful retreat. However, one reviewer did mention an isolated incident with "a few intoxicated neighbors on their boat at 2:00 a.m. on the first night," suggesting that while generally quiet, occasional disturbances can occur, as is the case in many public recreation areas.

Disbursed Camping Goose Bay Reviews
One of the absolutely nicest free dispersed camping (why is this spelled incorrectly on Google?) areas I've ever been to. Got here about 5pm in a Wed. If I'd had been 20 mins later, no way I would have gotten such a premium spot because several RVs came in soon after. Plenty of spots around, but some have better views. All areas are very flat, rock fire rings abound, vault toilet, beach access, can swim in the lake.Only negative: mosquitoes and biting flies. It's beside water, so plan accordingly. Spray, repelling citronella, nets. Or something you'll want it.

Didn’t get eaten alive but you hear the lil’ critters buzzing.I’d stay here again without a second thought. It was quiet throughout the day and night (excluding a few intoxicated neighbors on their boat at 2:00 a.m. on the first night).
