Townsend / Canyon Ferry Lake KOA Journey Introduce
If you're a local user in Montana searching for "camping near me" near Townsend and Canyon Ferry Lake, the Townsend / Canyon Ferry Lake KOA Journey, located at 81 Silos Rd, Townsend, MT 59644, is an option that might appear in your search results. As a KOA Journey campground, it typically suggests a convenient stopover for travelers, offering a range of camping options and some amenities. However, recent customer reviews provide a mixed perspective on the current state and service quality of this campground, which potential visitors should carefully consider.
Based on the available reviews, the environment of Townsend / Canyon Ferry Lake KOA Journey appears to be a point of concern for some visitors. One reviewer described the park as "very rundown" and "full of weeds and super dry," suggesting a lack of consistent upkeep and potentially an unappealing aesthetic. This could impact the overall camping experience, especially for those seeking a well-maintained and visually pleasant environment. The dryness mentioned might also raise concerns about dust and fire risk, depending on the time of year and local conditions. While the proximity to Canyon Ferry Lake is implied in the name, the reviews do not offer any specific descriptions of the lake's accessibility or views from the campground itself.
The services at Townsend / Canyon Ferry Lake KOA Journey, as inferred from the reviews, present a mixed bag. One significant negative experience involved a cabin where the "whole wall leaked air" due to a lack of maintenance, leading to a freezing night for the guest. The reviewer also expressed dissatisfaction with the management's lack of response to this issue. This raises concerns about the responsiveness of the management to maintenance requests and the quality of the accommodations offered, at least in some of the cabins. On a more positive note, another reviewer mentioned that "the bathrooms were clean," which is a crucial aspect of campground services for many campers. However, this positive point is overshadowed by complaints about "rude service" encountered by the same reviewer, indicating potential inconsistencies in staff interactions.
The features of Townsend / Canyon Ferry Lake KOA Journey would typically include a range of campsite types, such as RV sites with hookups (water, electricity, sewer), tent sites, and potentially cabins. As it is a KOA Journey, it might also offer some basic amenities like a camp store, laundry facilities (not mentioned in the reviews), and perhaps some recreational features, although these are not detailed in the provided feedback. The negative review about the poorly maintained cabin highlights a potential lack of quality in some of the lodging options. The cleanliness of the bathrooms, while a positive feature, is contrasted with the negative aspects of the park's rundown condition and the rude service encountered.
The customer reviews do not offer any positive promotional aspects for Townsend / Canyon Ferry Lake KOA Journey. Instead, they serve as cautionary feedback for potential visitors. The negative experiences shared include:
- Lack of Maintenance: Significant issues with the upkeep of accommodations (leaky cabin walls) and the overall park environment (weeds, dryness).
- Poor Management Responsiveness: Failure to address maintenance requests in a timely manner.
- Rude Service: Negative interactions with staff members.
- Perceived Overpricing: The experience was deemed expensive relative to the quality of the park and service received.
The only positive point mentioned is the cleanliness of the bathrooms, which, while important, may not outweigh the significant negative experiences reported. For local users searching for "camping near me," it is crucial to weigh these recent experiences against the potential convenience of a KOA campground and its location near Canyon Ferry Lake.
Given the strong negative feedback, any potential promotional efforts by Townsend / Canyon Ferry Lake KOA Journey would likely need to address the issues raised directly. This might include: acknowledging the maintenance concerns and outlining steps being taken to improve the park's condition; ensuring that staff are trained to provide courteous and helpful service; and potentially re-evaluating pricing to be more in line with the current experience offered. Highlighting any recent improvements or renovations could also be beneficial if such efforts are underway.
Local users considering Townsend / Canyon Ferry Lake KOA Journey based on its brand recognition or location should be aware of the recent negative reviews. It would be prudent to seek more recent feedback from other online platforms to see if the conditions and service have improved. Directly contacting the campground using the provided phone number, (406) 266-3100 or +1 406-266-3100, to inquire about the current state of the park, the maintenance of cabins, and the service standards might also be a wise step before making a reservation. Asking specific questions based on the concerns raised in the reviews could provide a clearer picture of what to expect.
In conclusion, while Townsend / Canyon Ferry Lake KOA Journey might appear as a convenient "camping near me" option in Montana, recent customer reviews indicate significant concerns regarding the park's maintenance, management responsiveness, and service quality. The only consistently positive aspect mentioned is the cleanliness of the bathrooms. Potential local users should carefully consider these negative experiences and conduct further research, including seeking more recent reviews and directly contacting the campground, before deciding to stay here. The feedback suggests that the current experience might not meet the expectations typically associated with the KOA brand, and alternative campgrounds in the area might offer a more satisfactory stay.

Feb 17, 2025 · Bert GinsbergKOA sure has lowered its standards. We couldn't get out of there fast enough. Rude service and the park is very rundown. Full of weeds and super dry. Seemed very expensive for the experience. Maybe this part of the state is just overpriced. On a positive the bathrooms were clean. We will not be back.
Jul 24, 2024 · brandon christensenI have stayed here twice over the years, both times in a small cabin, to ice fish in the late season. Both times the staff has been top notch, friendly and professional. This last trip, the staff was more than exceptional, thoroughly giving details that led to me catching more fish. They were accommodating when I decided to extend the trip an extra day. It is perfect if you are looking to just fish and come back to sleep and repeat the next day. The accommodations are more than adequate, clean and warm, quiet and peaceful. Bathroom amenities are a short walk and well maintained. Town is a short distance and if you want a hot meal after a day on the ice it is a short drive down the road. I highly recommend staying here if you're just looking to do a lot of fishing and want to stay close rather than driving a great distance back and forth. I was relieved that they had coffee every morning and was cheerfully greeted by a staff who understands the importance and meaning of guest service. Thank you for another great experience and I look forward to seeing this establishment again next season!

Jul 29, 2024 · Maureen A. SalaunWe just spent three days here with some family from out of state. Rented two cabins. Had a great stay. Lake is close, there is also a marina which is really convenient. The store in the KOA office is stocked very well. The staff is friendly and Debbie is great. The bathrooms are super clean which is the most important for me and my family (they clean them multiple times a day). The cabins were very clean, had a Keurig and mini fridge, and toaster. Even a propane grill. They come around and pick up your garbage bags which is really nice too. We just really enjoyed our stay. It was quiet and accommodating. Tons of lake to play on, too. There are small areas for improvement but you can tell they are working very hard on it. We will certainly be back.
