Jo Bonner Campground Introduce
For local users in the Helena, Montana area searching within the "camping near me" category, Jo Bonner Campground, situated at 3828 E Shore Dr, Helena, MT 59602, offers a lakeside camping experience. You can contact them at (406) 475-3921 or +1 406-475-3921 for information and inquiries.
Based on recent customer reviews, Jo Bonner Campground presents a mixed experience for visitors. One reviewer expressed significant dissatisfaction due to a lack of privacy at their assigned campsite, which they described as being located within the public beach area. This resulted in constant foot traffic through their campsite, causing discomfort for both the campers and their dogs, ultimately leading to an early departure. This experience highlights a potential issue with campsite allocation and the need for clarity regarding the nature and privacy of individual camping spots, especially for those traveling with pets.
Another reviewer pointed out a discrepancy regarding the cost of camping. While the advertised rate might be $10, they noted an additional $8 reservation fee, bringing the actual cost to $18. This lack of upfront disclosure about the extra fee was a point of frustration for the reviewer. It's important for potential visitors to be aware of all applicable charges when making a reservation to avoid unexpected costs.
Interestingly, the same reviewer who mentioned the reservation fee also shared their experience arriving on a Monday to find the entire campground empty, yet every spot was marked as reserved, often with seemingly outdated reservation tags. They learned that it's advisable to physically check the reservation cards on the posts, as the campground hosts might not always update them to indicate availability. This suggests a potential issue with the reservation management system or the communication of site availability, which could be misleading for prospective campers. Despite this issue, the reviewer did note that they were the only camper in the entire campground during their stay.
On the positive side, this reviewer described Jo Bonner Campground as a "great place" with "clean bathrooms." This indicates that at least some of the basic amenities are well-maintained and contribute to a positive aspect of the camping experience. Additionally, the mention of a "nice cove for paddle boarding" highlights a key feature of the campground's location, suggesting access to water activities on the nearby lake. This would be a significant draw for those who enjoy paddle boarding or other calm water sports.
Combining the feedback, the environment of Jo Bonner Campground appears to be lakeside, offering potential for water-based recreation such as paddle boarding. The presence of a cove suggests a sheltered area on the lake, possibly ideal for calm water activities. However, the experience of one reviewer indicates that some campsites might lack privacy due to their proximity to public areas like the beach. This is a critical factor for local users seeking a peaceful and private camping retreat.
In terms of services and features, the availability of clean bathrooms is a noted positive. However, the reservation system and the allocation of campsites seem to have issues that could impact the visitor experience. The undisclosed reservation fee and the potentially inaccurate reservation tags on empty sites are points of concern. The lack of information regarding other standard campground amenities like water hookups, electrical connections, or waste disposal facilities makes it difficult to provide a comprehensive overview of the services offered.
There is no specific mention of promotional information in the provided reviews. Therefore, local users interested in any special offers or discounts would need to contact the campground directly.
Considering the feedback, potential local users searching for "camping near me" and considering Jo Bonner Campground should be aware of the potential for a lack of privacy at some campsites, the additional reservation fee, and the possibility of encountering misleading reservation tags upon arrival. However, the campground does offer the benefit of clean bathrooms and access to a cove suitable for paddle boarding. The overall experience seems to vary significantly depending on the assigned campsite and individual expectations regarding privacy and cost transparency.
To make an informed decision, local users are strongly encouraged to contact Jo Bonner Campground directly at (406) 475-3921 or +1 406-475-3921 to inquire about campsite privacy, the total cost including all fees, the accuracy of the reservation system, and the availability of other amenities. Asking specific questions about the layout of the campground and the proximity of campsites to public areas would also be beneficial in setting expectations. While the location offers potential for lakeside recreation and the bathrooms are reportedly clean, the issues raised in the reviews regarding privacy and fees are important considerations for anyone planning a stay at Jo Bonner Campground.
In summary, Jo Bonner Campground offers a lakeside location near Helena with amenities such as clean bathrooms and a cove for paddle boarding. However, potential campers should be aware of reports of a lack of privacy at some campsites, an additional reservation fee not initially disclosed, and potential inaccuracies in the displayed reservation status of campsites. Local users seeking "camping near me" should weigh these factors and directly contact the campground for detailed information before making a reservation.

Jo Bonner Campground Reviews
No where did it indicate that our campsite was the public beach area we had no privacy and our poor dogs had to be moved every few minutes because people were constantely walking thru and not wanting our dogs by them! Absolutely ridiculous we ending up leaving a day early! No relaxation no fun at all!
Jun 15, 2024 · Jennifer EadesBe warned the reservation system charges you a $8 fee. So this campground is $18 NOT $10. I showed up on a Monday, not a single car or spot taken. BUT....every spot had a reserved sign on it. Most with very old dates. I have learned that you have to check those cards as the hosts don't bother to flip them over to the OPEN side. The reservation system will not let you book a spot if it actually has a reservation. I was the only camper in the entire campground!! Great place, clean bathrooms. Nice cove for paddle boarding. If the kiosk would have disclosed the $8 extra fee I would give this place 5 stars!!!
Aug 24, 2021 · Eric RogersNice little campground, super nice host who has been here for years. However, as other reviews have stated, host does not have campers follow the rules. Generators were going before 8am which is very clearly stated on the campground rules as not allowed. Unfortunately there are just no trees or other barriers for noise.
Jun 21, 2019 · Felicia BilesStayed there two nights, 7/17- 7/18. Camp next to us stayed partying till 3:45 in the morning on the first night, we could hear other campers complaining to the camp host about them and all she said was that they didn't have any music on. The next day, the group grew to approximately 32 "adults" and they were even louder than the first night. The sheriff's deputies came by several times but that didn't phase them one bit. The place was nice but not at all relaxing!
Jul 26, 2018 · Adan MonsibaizI hate the new reservation system. There are no first come, spots left. Reservations are quickly booked up and yet many spots sit there empty when people don't show up. There needs to be a better system to let others get those reserved but empty spots. Camp host is great! Our favorite campground, but now difficult to get a spot.
