The place is alright. We tent camp, so the review is based on that. We came in later in the day, and the host was helpful and told us where we could stay. We had a van and trailer, so we needed a pull through spot. We stayed in spot 104, which is an end of the row spot, and it was perfect, a lot of space. The bathrooms were clean other than a bunch of dead beetles. The showers were decent size, and the water can be finicky on getting just the right temp, but they work and weren't cold. The kids enjoyed the playground, and it was right by our spot so we could watch them while setting up the tents. This type of campgroud isn't our cup of tea. We prefer more primitive but with all the flooding along the Mississippi River, we played it safe and stuck to high ground and paved roads. The only complaints we had were...1. That we struggled a bit finding gate 5. You have to exit the whole place back on the main road to see gate numbers.2. Our neighbor came out as we had started unpacking our stuff and said, "What time are you guys planning on leaving tomorrow morning? That's my mother-in-law's spot." Check out is at 3 pm, so that was very rude to ask when the spot was open when we got there (the host told us we could use it for the night and we paid). In the morning, he went out and started his truck at 5 a.m., let it run for a few minutes, and then turned it off. He did it again at 6 a.m. and again at 7 a.m. and finally left at 720 a.m.Other than that, it wasn't a bad place. It's not a great spot for tent camping, but it's not bad for a stop over. - Laura Bell

Summit Campground Introduce

For those in the Davenport, Iowa area or traveling through and searching within the "camping near me" category, Summit Campground, located on an Unnamed Road in Davenport, IA 52804, USA, offers a functional and reasonably maintained option for both tent and RV campers. Based on recent customer reviews, the campground provides essential amenities and a helpful host, making it a viable choice for various camping needs, particularly as an alternative during regional flooding or as a convenient overnight stop.

When considering "camping near me," the initial interaction with the host at Summit Campground appears to be positive. One reviewer who arrived later in the day noted that the host was "helpful and told us where we could stay." This suggests a degree of flexibility and assistance in accommodating late arrivals, a valuable aspect for travelers on the road. For those with larger vehicles, such as a van and trailer, the availability of "pull through spots" is a significant advantage. The reviewer specifically mentioned staying in spot 104, an "end of the row spot," which offered ample space, indicating that the campground can cater to those requiring more room for maneuvering and parking larger rigs.

In terms of facilities, Summit Campground seems to provide clean and functional amenities. The bathrooms were reported to be "clean other than a bunch of dead beetles," suggesting a generally maintained environment with minor, perhaps seasonal, insect issues. The showers were described as being of a "decent size" and functional, although the water temperature could be "finicky." Despite this minor inconvenience, the availability of warm showers is a significant plus for campers, especially those on longer journeys.

For families searching for "camping near me," Summit Campground offers a notable feature: a playground. One reviewer mentioned that "the kids enjoyed the playground, and it was right by our spot so we could watch them while setting up the tents." This proximity of the playground to at least some of the campsites allows parents to supervise their children while managing camp chores, enhancing the family-friendly appeal of the campground.

However, it's important to note that the overall ambiance of Summit Campground might not appeal to all types of campers. One reviewer explicitly stated, "This type of campground isn't our cup of tea. We prefer more primitive..." This suggests that Summit Campground leans towards a more developed style of camping, likely with paved roads and designated sites, which may not satisfy those seeking a more secluded and natural "primitive" camping experience. The reviewer's decision to stay at Summit was influenced by external factors, specifically the "flooding along the Mississippi River," leading them to prioritize "high ground and paved roads," highlighting the campground's practicality during adverse conditions.

The review also brought up a couple of specific issues encountered during the stay. The first complaint involved the difficulty in locating "gate 5" upon arrival, noting that it required exiting the campground and returning to the main road to see the gate numbers. This suggests a potential need for clearer signage or internal mapping within the campground to improve wayfinding for arriving guests. The second issue involved an interaction with a neighbor regarding the campsite. Despite the official check-out time being 3 pm and the host assigning the spot upon arrival and payment, a neighbor questioned their departure time the next morning, claiming it was their mother-in-law's spot. This was followed by disruptive behavior in the early morning with the neighbor repeatedly starting and stopping their truck. While this seems to be an isolated incident involving another camper, it's a factor to be aware of, although not directly attributable to the campground management itself.

Another reviewer described Summit Campground as "very nice" and noted that it was "packed," indicating its popularity. However, this reviewer also mentioned that the lake associated with the campground had been "at least 2 years dry." This is a significant environmental factor for potential visitors to consider, especially if lakeside activities were a primary reason for seeking "camping near me." The reviewer speculated that the campground "must be something when it is full" of water, suggesting that the drained lake detracts from the overall appeal but that the campground itself still maintains a certain quality, being described as "one of the nicest parks we've stayed at so far this trip."

Based on the available information, Summit Campground appears to be a functional and reasonably clean campground that caters to both tent and RV campers. Its features include pull-through RV sites, clean bathrooms, decent showers, and a playground. The host is reported to be helpful. However, it may not appeal to those seeking a primitive camping experience, and there have been mentions of wayfinding issues within the campground and the significant issue of a long-dry lake. The positive feedback regarding cleanliness and the playground suggests it can be a suitable option for families and those needing a convenient and relatively comfortable stopover, particularly when other options might be affected by flooding.

Without specific promotional information in the provided text, potential local users searching for "camping near me" should consider Summit Campground based on its described environment, services, and features. It seems to offer a practical solution for various camping needs, especially for RV travelers and families with children who appreciate a playground. However, those prioritizing a natural lakeside environment should be aware of the reported dry lake. To inquire about current conditions, availability, and any potential discounts or special offers, it is recommended to contact Summit Campground directly, although a phone number is not provided in the given information. Interested individuals may need to search online for contact details to get the most up-to-date information and make informed decisions about their "camping near me" choice.
