For those searching under the category "camping near me" and desiring a getaway that combines natural beauty with opportunities for water activities, Happy Camper Campground offers a unique and appealing option. While described as "a bit on the primitive side as far as amenities," this campground is praised for its well-maintained facilities, large riverside campsites, and the welcoming nature of its owners.
Riverside Environment and Natural Beauty:
Happy Camper Campground lives up to its name by providing a picturesque setting right on the river. Imagine waking up to the gentle sounds of flowing water and having direct access for activities like kayaking and fishing. The reviews highlight the "beautiful" environment, making it an ideal destination for those who appreciate the serenity of a riverside location. The large campsites situated directly on the river offer campers the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in this natural beauty, providing a sense of peace and tranquility that can be hard to find elsewhere.
Access for Kayaking and Fishing Enthusiasts:
A significant feature of Happy Camper Campground is its access to the river, making it a popular choice for those interested in kayaking and fishing. The presence of a "boat ramp" facilitates easy launching of kayaks and other small watercraft. For anglers, the riverside location provides convenient access to fishing opportunities. One reviewer specifically mentioned calling ahead before dropping kayaks upstream to ensure the ramp was accessible, indicating its importance for those planning river excursions. The ability to camp right on the river and easily engage in these water activities makes Happy Camper Campground a prime spot for outdoor enthusiasts.
Quiet and Secluded Atmosphere:
For those seeking a peaceful retreat, Happy Camper Campground is described as "out of the way and quiet." This secluded atmosphere allows campers to truly relax and escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The absence of excessive noise and crowds contributes to a more authentic and nature-focused camping experience. If you value tranquility and the sounds of nature over bustling campground activities, Happy Camper Campground could be the perfect destination for your next camping trip near you.
Well-Maintained Facilities and Accommodating Owners:
Despite being described as "a bit on the primitive side as far as amenities," the campground is consistently praised for being "well maintained." This suggests that while the amenities might be basic, they are kept in good condition, ensuring a comfortable and functional camping experience. Furthermore, the owners are described as "great hosts" who "maintain it well" and do their best to accommodate guests. One reviewer shared an experience where, despite a private event temporarily impacting boat ramp access, the owner went out of their way to find a parking solution for their group, highlighting their commitment to customer service.
Large Campsites for Added Comfort:
The availability of "large camp sites right on the river" is another significant advantage of Happy Camper Campground. Spacious campsites provide more room for tents, camping gear, and outdoor activities within your designated area. This added space enhances comfort and privacy, allowing families and groups to spread out and enjoy their riverside setting without feeling cramped.
Considerations Regarding Boat Ramp Access:
It is important to note a specific experience shared by a reviewer regarding the boat ramp. It was mentioned that the ramp could be closed for private events, potentially impacting those planning to use it for launching kayaks or other watercraft. The reviewer suggested that in the future, the boat ramp area might be excluded from private rentals to ensure public access. While this was an isolated incident, it is advisable to call ahead, as suggested by the reviewer, to inquire about the availability of the boat ramp, especially if it is a crucial part of your camping plans.
A Family-Friendly Getaway:
One reviewer explicitly stated, "My family loves our getaway camping trips to Happy Camper." This positive feedback underscores the campground's suitability for families looking for a riverside camping experience. The combination of the natural beauty, opportunities for outdoor activities like kayaking and fishing, and the quiet atmosphere likely contribute to its appeal as a family-friendly destination.

Happy Camper Campground Reviews
Call ahead before you drop your kayaks upstream to make sure the ramp isn't closed for a private party. We did that this past Saturday only to arrive to drop our downstream vehicle and discover it was closed to the public for the Redmon family reunion. They were big feeling sorts that felt like they also had the whole river rented out as well. I called the number for the campground and explained to the fellow on the phone the situation and he allowed me to park at the top of the big hill out of their way but is is a steep hill on loose gravel that is not fun to hike up after being on the river all day. To the owners, I suggest that in the future if you're going to rent out the lower campground you exclude the boat ramp area and the little turnaround area for it. There's plenty of room for the biggest of families there.I'm still going to leave 5 stars because it is a nice campground and boat ramp and the owners maintain it well and did their best to accommodate my float party. The campground is out of the way and quiet. A bit on the primitive side as far as amenities but well maintained and with large camp sites right on the river.
Sep 27, 2022 · shane pratMy family loves our getaway camping trips to Happy Camper. Right on the river, quiet, beautiful and the owners are great hosts. We visit here several times each year to camp, kayak, and fish.
Oct 10, 2023 · Donnie BussellSpent two nights on the bottom side of the campground near the river. It was absolutely wonderful it was quiet the spaces are large and there's plenty of room to fish. Bath house was nice and clean but is a pretty good distance from the bottom side of the campground if you're staying by the river also there is no electric hookups or water hookups down by the river so if you're looking for that stay up top. The owner was great, everything was easy. Would definitely go back
Apr 30, 2019 · Nichole Grant LovedayGreat owners with a Big heart! Really loved the southern hospitality and the beautiful fields of the property. Really nice to have a laundry room showers and bathrooms on site for anytime we didnt feel the need to use the camper.
Dec 22, 2023 · Micah GalbraithGreat place to camp after a few days traveling it's nice to have a shower, sit back and enjoy the river. The hill going down to the tent sites and river access is on a pretty steep grade, not sure how a rainy day may be get out of there. Owners were very nice people and the price to camp was good especially including the shower. Must make sure to clean up after yourself. The fire pit were all full of trash possibly because there were no trash cans available but they do have porta johns with toilet paper. Hammock camping is limited to a few spot aswell.
