Embrace the Environment: Horseshoe Bend Marina & Campgrounds is ideally located in an area rich with natural beauty, offering campers access to stunning waterways and potentially nearby hiking opportunities. The reviews specifically highlight the proximity to several waterfalls, including a "secret" waterfall recommended by the staff, "twin falls" accessible by kayaking, and another "fairly large waterfall." This abundance of waterfalls suggests a landscape characterized by flowing water, possibly rocky terrain, and lush vegetation, creating a picturesque environment for outdoor exploration. The experience of kayaking to these waterfalls provides a unique perspective on the natural beauty of the area, allowing for close encounters with these natural wonders.
The campground's association with a marina implies its location on or near a significant body of water, likely offering waterfront views and potential access for boating and other water-related activities. The ability to rent kayaks directly from the premises further enhances this connection to the water, providing a convenient way for campers to explore the lake or river and reach attractions like the twin falls. The mention of paddling "past the beach" suggests that the campground may also have a beach area for swimming and relaxation, adding another dimension to the outdoor experience.
The reviews also provide some insights into the conditions of the waterways. One kayaker noted that paddling to the twin falls was "surprisingly hard," attributing it possibly to wind or current from the dam. This indicates that the water conditions can vary and might present a physical challenge, even for those with some kayaking experience. The sounding of an alarm indicating the dam is releasing water further emphasizes the influence of the dam on the water currents, which can become "too strong to get close" to the falls after a release. Campers planning to kayak should be aware of these potential conditions and heed any warnings or guidelines provided by the marina staff regarding safe distances from the dam and waterfalls.
The presence of numerous "little waterfalls" after periods of heavy rain suggests that the area is dynamic and its scenic features can be enhanced by weather conditions. This adds an element of unpredictability and the potential for discovering even more natural beauty depending on when you visit.
Services and Amenities: Horseshoe Bend Marina & Campgrounds offers several key services and amenities that cater to both campers and those interested in water activities. The availability of "kayak rentals" is a significant feature, providing a convenient way for guests to explore the nearby waterfalls and waterways without having to bring their own equipment. The experience of renting a tandem kayak, as mentioned by one reviewer, suggests that different types of kayaks might be available to suit various needs and preferences.
The helpfulness of the "managers" is highlighted in one review, stating they are accommodating with "whatever you need." This suggests a level of customer service that can enhance the overall camping experience, providing assistance and information to make guests feel welcome and comfortable. The staff's knowledge of the local area, such as directing guests to a "secret" waterfall, further demonstrates their helpfulness and willingness to share insider tips.
While specific details about the camping amenities are somewhat limited in the reviews, the positive mention of them ("Camping amenities were wonderful") indicates that the campground provides essential facilities for a comfortable stay. This likely includes campsites of varying types (possibly including tent sites and RV sites), restroom facilities, and potentially other amenities such as picnic tables, fire rings, and water access. To get a comprehensive list of all camping amenities available, contacting Horseshoe Bend Marina & Campgrounds directly at the provided phone numbers is recommended.
The presence of a marina suggests additional services related to boating, although these are not detailed in the provided reviews. It's possible that the marina offers boat slips, fuel, or other services for boaters, which could be of interest to local users who own boats or are interested in boating activities on the adjacent waterway.
The mention of a "beach" that kayakers paddled past indicates the presence of a swimming or recreational beach area, although further details about its size and amenities are not provided. This could be another attraction for campers looking to relax by the water.
Features and Highlights: A primary highlight of Horseshoe Bend Marina & Campgrounds is the unique opportunity to combine camping with access to water activities and stunning natural attractions like the nearby waterfalls. The ability to rent kayaks directly from the campground and explore these scenic locations is a significant draw for adventure-seeking campers.
The helpful and knowledgeable staff, particularly the managers, who provide recommendations for local gems like the "secret" waterfall, enhance the overall guest experience and offer valuable insights into the area.
The positive feedback on the "wonderful" camping amenities suggests that the campground provides a comfortable and well-equipped base for an overnight or weekend stay.
The potential for encountering multiple waterfalls, including the twin falls and the larger waterfall, adds an element of exploration and discovery to a visit to Horseshoe Bend Marina & Campgrounds.
The location near a dam and the resulting variable water currents offer a unique, albeit potentially challenging, kayaking experience. Campers interested in kayaking should be aware of these conditions and follow any safety guidelines.
The campground's appeal as "the perfect place for a weekend getaway with friends" highlights its suitability for group outings and social camping experiences.

Horseshoe Bend Marina & Campgrounds Reviews
We rented kayaks from here. It was a little confusing to book as we were told it was first come first serve, but when we got there they said we could have reserved kayaks beforehand. We ended up with a tandem kayak. The staff told us where to go for a “secret” waterfall. It was really beautiful and we were there by ourselves for an hour and a half. We then kayaked past the beach and to the twin falls. There was also another spot with a fairly large waterfall. We went after lots of rain so there were tons of little waterfalls. Me and sister are fairly fit and have kayaked previously and we were surprised how hard it was to kayak to the twin falls - not sure if it was windy, or the current from the dam but in both directions until we got to the beach, it was a pretty tough paddle. We did not paddle too close to twin falls…and I am unsure of the rules around getting close. As soon as we got there, the alarm sounded which indicates the dam is releasing water. After this, the current was too strong to get close.
Aug 16, 2024 · Taylor BerryThe perfect place for a weekend getaway with friends! Camping amenities were wonderful and the managers are helpful with whatever you need. Also I recommend renting one of their kayaks and checking out the falls nearby!
Mar 22, 2021 · M PThe hosts are very generous and friendly. Camp sites are maintained nicely. It's right on the water with amazing views. Kayak rentals available. Super awesome waterfall about a mile by water from the campground.
Jun 07, 2020 · Charlie BrownNot only did I get to glamp in the dreamy tent, but Horseshoe Bend Marina also offers Campsite Crudité service to your site! Since we were only there for one night, and truly needed some downtime we chose not to cook and to select-in to the crudité option + wine and home-made breakfast burritos to warm on the fire for the morning. One night is not enough btw, staying a couple of nights would be ideal so you have time to fully unwind, grab some time on the rental kayaks and enjoy the stars that we rarely get to see in the city. All of our interactions were socially distanced, masks are worn indoors, and the bathroom spaces were kept very clean for camper safety. Thanks for having us Horse Shoe Bend Marina!
Jul 26, 2020 · Alyssa RussellSuper cute hidden 💎! Friendly staff and very welcoming. Told us of the close waterfalls to kayak to and exactly where to go. We stayed during the week and was the only ones there. Peaceful and quiet
