The environment surrounding Heather Park is clearly one of high alpine beauty. Reviews mention "excellent views of Port Angeles and the surrounding area," and on a clear day, the possibility of seeing Mt. Baker in the distance. The location also offers views of the glacier-covered Mt. Olympus within Olympic National Park. The presence of wild flowers along the trail, depending on the season, further paints a picture of a vibrant and scenic natural landscape. The proximity to a stream, as noted in one review to help locate the area, indicates the presence of water sources, a common feature in mountainous regions. Given its location near Hurricane Ridge, Lake Angeles, and Mt. Angeles, Heather Park is likely situated within the high-elevation subalpine or alpine zones of the Olympic Mountains, characterized by open meadows, rocky terrain, and panoramic vistas.

Angeles loop), the actual campsite or trailhead for Heather Park is approximately 0.5 miles past the location indicated on Google Maps. The presence of a stream next to the trail serves as a helpful landmark. This implies that Heather Park functions as an access point, and any camping would likely be of the backcountry or wilderness variety, requiring permits and adherence to Leave No Trace principles, typical for camping within Olympic National Park beyond designated campgrounds. There is no mention of amenities like restrooms, water sources within a campground setting, or designated campsites in the immediate reviews.
The key features of Heather Park, based on the reviews, are its fabulous hiking trails and the exceptional panoramic views it offers. The hike is described as "steep," with an approximate gain of a thousand feet each mile, suggesting a challenging but rewarding experience for those who venture on the trails. The reward is the "excellent views" encompassing Port Angeles, the surrounding area, Mt. Baker on clear days, and Mt. Olympus. The relative scarcity of other hikers ("very few hikers") suggests a more secluded and intimate experience with nature. For local users seeking "camping near me" that combines rigorous hiking with spectacular scenery, Heather Park and its access to the surrounding wilderness hold significant appeal.
For local users looking for "camping near me" that might involve backcountry opportunities within Olympic National Park, Heather Park serves as a gateway to such experiences. If you are an experienced hiker looking for a trail that rewards you with stunning vistas and are prepared for a steep ascent, Heather Park is a must-consider location. Heather Park Reviews
FYI - coming from south (Hurricane Ridge or looping around from Lake Angeles and Mt. Angeles) the campsite is 0.5 mile PAST the Heather Park Google location. You will be in the right place if you see the stream right next to the trail.
Aug 20, 2024 · Miriam BuckmanFabulous hike. You will be rewarded with excellent views of Port Angeles and the surrounding area. On a clear day (like ours) you will be able to see Mt. Baker in the distance. At the top, you will see the glacier covered Mt. Olympus inside Glacier National Park. There are wild flowers along the way depending on the time of the year. That said, this is a steep hike. You roughly gain a thousand feet each mile. You will see very few hikers.
