Hermitage Campground Introduce
Looking for a picturesque "camping near me" experience in Missouri? Consider Hermitage Campground, located on an Unnamed Road in Hermitage, MO 65668, USA. Based on recent customer reviews, this campground offers a beautiful and spacious environment, with the added bonus of lakeside campsites providing wonderful views. It operates on an honor system for payment, adding a unique and trusting element to your stay. Whether you're a tent camper, an RV enthusiast, or someone who enjoys kayaking, Hermitage Campground appears to have something to offer for your local outdoor getaway.
Environment: Beautiful and Spacious with Lakeside Views
Hermitage Campground is described as "beautiful" even towards the end of winter, suggesting that it retains its natural appeal across different seasons. The campground is noted to be "wide and spacious," offering plenty of campsites, which is a significant advantage for those seeking a less crowded "camping near me" option. One of the standout environmental features is the availability of campsites "all along the lake," providing campers with potentially stunning waterfront views right from their campsite. Imagine waking up to the serene sight of the lake and enjoying the peaceful ambiance throughout your stay. The presence of a lake also implies opportunities for water-related activities, further enhancing the natural appeal of the campground. The division into different loops, with at least one loop (loop 3) being designated "tents only," suggests a thoughtful layout that caters to various camping preferences. This separation can contribute to a more tailored experience for both tent and RV campers.
The mention of "clear water" being good for kayaking reinforces the attractiveness of the lake as a central feature of the campground's environment. Kayaking on a clear lake can be a wonderful way to explore the surroundings, get some exercise, and enjoy the natural beauty from a different perspective. For local users interested in "camping near me" with opportunities for kayaking and scenic lakeside camping, Hermitage Campground seems to be a very promising location.
Services and Amenities: Honor System, Tent and RV Areas
Hermitage Campground operates on an interesting "honor system" for payment. Upon arrival, campers are instructed to stop by the front office to pick up an envelope, then drive around to choose their campsite. After selecting a spot, they fill out the envelope with their payment (cash or check) and deposit it in a dropbox. This system suggests a level of trust and self-service, which can be appealing to those who prefer a more independent camping experience. The campground clearly accommodates both tent campers (as indicated by the tent-only loop 3) and RVs (with loops 1 and 2 being filled with RVs). This dual accommodation makes it a versatile option for different types of "camping near me."
However, the review also mentions a "long line Sunday morning to wash out their black tanks," indicating that while RV sites with hookups are available (or at least a common dump station), there might be peak times when these services are in high demand. Tent campers in loop 3 would likely not be affected by this. The absence of explicit mention of other facilities like restrooms, showers, or picnic tables leaves some questions unanswered, but the focus on tent and RV camping suggests that basic camping needs are likely met in some form. For those prioritizing the type of camping (tent vs. RV) and the unique honor system, Hermitage Campground offers a distinctive approach.
Features: Lakeside Camping, Tent-Only Area, RV Accommodation, and Kayaking
The standout features of Hermitage Campground include its beautiful and spacious environment, the availability of campsites directly along the lake, a designated "tents only" camping loop (loop 3), areas accommodating RVs (loops 1 and 2), and the clear lake that is great for kayaking. The option to camp right by the lake with wonderful views is a significant draw for nature lovers. The separation of camping areas into tent-only and RV sections can enhance the experience for both types of campers. For tent campers seeking a quieter environment without the proximity of RVs, loop 3 would be ideal. RV campers, on the other hand, have designated areas, although they might experience queues for black tank services at peak times.
The clear water suitable for kayaking adds another dimension to the recreational opportunities at Hermitage Campground, making it attractive to those who enjoy being on the water. The honor system for payment is also a unique feature that sets it apart from campgrounds with more traditional payment processes.

Hermitage Campground Reviews
We visited in mid-march before spring really started. It is an honor system for your campground. Stop by the front office and grab an envelope. Drive around and pick your campsites and then fill out the envelope. Put some money or check in there and put it back in the Dropbox. The campground even in the ending of winter is still beautiful. It is wide and spacious with plenty of campsites and if you're lucky you can get campsites all along the lake for wonderful views.
Mar 15, 2025 · Nathan PowersCamped in loop3 which are tents only. No other campers in this section. Loop 1 and 2 were filled with rv's. Long line sunday morning to wash out their black tanks. Very pretty place. Great for kayaking
Oct 30, 2024 · Mike AppelbaumEveryone was super helpful and loved having the delicious ice cream one night (this is Marina related so times vary, but on the same grounds). Beach was very awesome and a short drive down the road, boat ramp was nice with a courtesy dock.If only they could have held off the rain 🤣
Jun 21, 2024 · Karen OtzExcellent well-cared for grounds. Quiet. Spacious lots. Clean restrooms. Very attentative staff on the grounds. We found the trail very well maintained. It's a trail through the woods, so roots and rocks are expected. Saw a post complaining about that, but my husband and I are in our 60s and had no issues with completing the trail. It was well- marked, even at the beach area, so we never had to walk on the road.
Oct 18, 2023 · Diane McConnellWonderful place for a weekend with the family. The campsites were clean. We had family ages 3 to 60. We enjoyed swimming and picnicking at the beach, the playground, nature presentation for the kids, excellent fishing and boating. We are already planning our next family camping trip.
