Harbor Campground Introduce
For local residents in Missouri searching for "camping near me" in the vicinity of Hermitage, MO, Harbor Campground, located on MO-254, presents a location with mixed reviews from recent campers. To provide an objective introduction based on the available feedback, it's essential to consider both the positive and negative experiences reported by those who have stayed there.
The Environment: Proximity to Amenities and Potential Natural Setting
One positive aspect mentioned in the reviews is the campground's proximity to a restaurant on the property. This could be a significant convenience for campers who appreciate having a dining option nearby. Additionally, the campground's location in Hermitage, MO, suggests it might be situated in a rural or semi-rural environment, potentially offering access to natural landscapes typical of the region. While one reviewer noted being close to a bar and restaurant, implying some level of activity, the overall setting could still provide a degree of natural appeal for those seeking a break from urban areas. However, another reviewer's description of the campsite itself as "garbage" and the lack of maintained amenities paint a less favorable picture of the immediate camping environment.
Services and Management: Contrasting Experiences
The reviews present a stark contrast regarding the services and management of Harbor Campground:
- Positive Feedback on Ownership: One reviewer described the owners as "super friendly and great to deal with," suggesting a positive interaction with at least some members of the management.
- Negative Feedback on Staff Knowledge and Office Management: Conversely, another reviewer reported significant issues with the staff encountered during the reservation process and upon arrival. They mentioned a lack of knowledge about the campground when calling to reserve, misleading information about shaded sites and amenities, and an unhelpful experience with teenagers running the office, which is accessed through a bar. The lack of clear signage for the office was also noted.
- Absence of Camp Host: The lack of a camp host was mentioned as a contributing factor to issues like trash left at campsites.
- Limited Office Hours: The office being closed during the week could pose challenges for campers needing assistance or information, particularly regarding essential services like the dump station's location.
These conflicting experiences highlight a potential inconsistency in the level of service provided at Harbor Campground.
Features and Amenities: Significant Discrepancies from Expectations
One of the most concerning aspects raised in the reviews is the significant discrepancy between the advertised and actual features of the campsites:
- Shade: While the reviewer was told all sites were shaded, they reported that there were "barely any" shaded sites upon arrival.
- Picnic Tables: The reviewer was informed that each site had a picnic table, but they found the existing tables to be "broke and destroyed."
- Fire Pits: Contrary to the information provided during reservation, the reviewer stated that there were no fire pits. Instead, campers had improvised using rocks and vehicle wheels.
- Bath House: The bathhouse was described as being approximately 300 yards away, "run down, dirty, and wasp infested." This raises significant concerns about the hygiene and accessibility of these essential facilities.
- Dump Station: The location of the dump station in the long-term campground and the need to inquire about it when the office is open (due to weekday closures) adds inconvenience for short-term campers.
- Restaurant on Property: As mentioned earlier, the presence of a restaurant is a notable feature appreciated by at least one reviewer.
The stark contrast between the promised and actual amenities paints a concerning picture for potential campers. The broken picnic tables, lack of proper fire pits, and the condition of the bathhouse are significant drawbacks.
Promotional Information and Value Proposition: A Need for Transparency
Based on the limited information available and the strongly negative review, it's difficult to ascertain any current promotional offers for Harbor Campground. The positive review, while appreciative of the friendly owners and the restaurant, does not mention any specific promotions. The negative review focuses heavily on the discrepancies between what was advertised and the reality of the campground.
For local users considering Harbor Campground based on its "camping near me" proximity, it is crucial to approach with caution and a clear understanding of the potential issues raised in the reviews. The presence of a restaurant on-site might be a draw for some, but the reported condition of the campsites and facilities is a significant concern.
Given the conflicting feedback, any potential value proposition needs to be carefully evaluated. While the price is not mentioned in the provided reviews, the condition of the amenities might not justify even a lower cost for campers who expect basic standards of cleanliness and functionality. Transparency from the campground regarding the actual state of the facilities and services is essential for potential visitors to make an informed decision.
Recommendations for Local Users Considering Harbor Campground
If you are a local user considering Harbor Campground based on its location, it is strongly recommended to:
- Contact the campground directly at (417) 745-6865 or +1 417-745-6865 to get the most current information. Inquire specifically about the condition of the campsites, picnic tables, fire pits, and bathhouse.
- Ask about the office hours and the process for check-in and any assistance needed during your stay.
- Clarify the location and accessibility of the dump station if you are an RV camper.
- Inquire about the availability of shaded campsites if this is a priority for you.
- Consider recent online reviews from multiple sources to get a broader perspective on the current state of the campground.
In conclusion, Harbor Campground near Hermitage, MO, appears to be a location with significant inconsistencies in the experiences reported by campers. While some appreciate the friendly owners and the convenience of the on-site restaurant, others have raised serious concerns about the accuracy of information provided during booking, the condition of the campsites and amenities (particularly the picnic tables and bathhouse), and the overall management of the campground. Local users searching for "camping near me" should exercise caution and seek detailed and up-to-date information directly from the campground before making a reservation to ensure it meets their expectations and needs.

Harbor Campground Reviews
Love this place. Very nice campground. The owners are super friendly and great to deal with. Really like having a good restaurant on the property. Highly recommend.
Aug 05, 2023 · Robert HeydenreichFirst off when you call to reserve the individual that answers barely knows anything about the campground. States all the sites are shaded, each site has a picnic table and fire pit. Upon arrival there are barely any signs for the office, two teenagers run the desk which you have to go through a bar to get to. When you ask questions about the campground these individuals do not know anything. The camp site itself is garbage. The picnic tables are broke and destroyed. There are no fire pits, however people have made their own out of rocks and vehicle wheels. The bath house is approximately 300 yards away and are run down, dirty and wasp infested. There is no camp host, trash was left from last camper. The dump station is in the long term campground and if you didn't know that, hopefully you ask when the office is open as they are closed during the week. Overall this place is a dump. Only thing it has going for it is it is close to the bar and restaurant.
Jun 12, 2018 · Keith WalkerWe had site 104 (water and electric only), the site was nice with plenty of shade. The site is close to the water and boat ramp, we brought the boat but didn't need it. My only complaints are that the road to the office was full of cars parked on the road and there is no designated area to park your RV while checking in. We made it through the gauntlet of cars with my trailer coming within inches of a few of them. We had the road blocked while checking in. When we we left on Sunday, the dump station was full. Someone camping with let the staff know it was full the day before.
