The park was already closing down for the season so the indoor pool and hot tub were both closed. We never did find the bathrooms, so it was a good thing we had our own toilet. The showers were cold. There were only a couple of campsites open for weekenders and because the rest were rented by the season. The website has the good Sam logo on it but they are not part of the good Sam or coast to coast groups. The phone number on the website is wrong. It was a place to stay overnight and quiet. That's the only good thing to say about it. - Cathy Hughes

Hideaway Hills Introduce

Are you searching for "camping near me" in the Battle Creek, Michigan area? Hideaway Hills, located at 21901 Collier Ave, Battle Creek, MI 49017, USA, offers a camping experience that, according to recent reviews, is characterized by its quiet atmosphere but also presents some significant drawbacks regarding its facilities and maintenance. You can reach them by phone at (269) 753-1180 or via mobile at +1 269-753-1180 for inquiries, though one reviewer noted that the phone number on the website was incorrect, so using the provided numbers is advisable.

Several reviewers mention the peaceful and quiet environment at Hideaway Hills, particularly at night, with no reports of disruptive behavior or excessive noise. For local users prioritizing a tranquil camping experience, this could be an appealing aspect. One reviewer who stayed overnight found it to be a quiet place, which was the only positive aspect they noted.

However, the positive aspects seem to be overshadowed by concerns about the condition and cleanliness of the facilities. Multiple reviewers expressed dissatisfaction with the bathrooms, describing them as "one of the worst I've come across" and noting they "haven't been scrubbed good in a while." Similarly, the showers were described as lacking in cleanliness, although one reviewer did mention the water being hot. Another reviewer stated they never even found the bathrooms, highlighting potential issues with signage or accessibility.

The pool was a significant point of criticism, with one reviewer reporting "green water" and stating they would not allow their children to swim in it. The hot tub was also problematic, with one reviewer noting it was broken, and an older, broken hot tub was seen near the garbage, raising concerns about maintenance practices. The overall condition of the buildings was described as "run down and not taken care of," and one reviewer, looking at older online pictures, concluded that the current owners are not investing in the upkeep of the property.

One reviewer experienced a severe issue upon leaving, with black water overflowing from the ground at their full hookup site, which they cited as the "last straw" and a reason for not returning. This incident raises concerns about the integrity of the campground's infrastructure.

The availability of amenities also appears to be limited or subject to seasonal closures. One reviewer who visited towards the end of the season noted that the indoor pool and hot tub were already closed. They also mentioned that only a couple of campsites were open for weekenders, with the majority being rented on a seasonal basis. This suggests that availability for short-term campers might be restricted, especially during peak or shoulder seasons.

Interestingly, one reviewer mentioned that the campground was formerly a nude campground from the 1940s through 2010, clarifying that it no longer operates as such. While this historical fact might be of curiosity to some, it doesn't directly impact the current camping experience but is part of the campground's past.

Regarding the environment, one reviewer described the grounds as "very gorgeous" with "nicely groomed" grass. However, they also noted that the spots were "not clearly marked and packed tightly for full hookups," although they were fortunate not to have neighbors during their stay. This suggests that while the landscaping might be visually appealing, the campsite layout could lack privacy and space between campers.

Despite the issues with facilities, one reviewer did mention that the staff was friendly. This positive interaction with staff might be a redeeming quality for some visitors.

In terms of services, Hideaway Hills reportedly offers full hookups, as mentioned by multiple reviewers. This is a significant convenience for RV campers. However, the reliability of these hookups, as indicated by the black water overflow incident, might be questionable. The availability and cleanliness of restrooms and showers are clearly areas of concern based on the reviews. The seasonal closure of the pool and hot tub further limits the available amenities at certain times of the year. The claim of being associated with Good Sam on the website was also reported as inaccurate by one reviewer, who stated they are not part of Good Sam or Coast to Coast groups.

Features of Hideaway Hills include the availability of full hookup campsites and a generally quiet atmosphere at night. However, these are contrasted by the dated and poorly maintained facilities, including unclean bathrooms and showers, a problematic pool and hot tub, and potentially unreliable infrastructure. The groomed grass might be considered a visual feature, but the tight spacing and unclear marking of campsites could be a drawback for those seeking privacy and space.

There is no promotional information available for Hideaway Hills in the provided reviews. Therefore, local users searching for "camping near me" will need to weigh the reported quiet environment and full hookups against the significant concerns about cleanliness, maintenance, and potentially limited availability and amenities. The discrepancy regarding the Good Sam affiliation on their website is also something to be aware of.

In conclusion, Hideaway Hills near Battle Creek, MI, offers a potentially quiet camping experience with the benefit of full hookups. However, multiple recent reviews highlight significant issues with the cleanliness and maintenance of the bathrooms, showers, and pool, as well as concerns about the overall condition of the facilities and infrastructure. While the grounds might be visually appealing, the campsites are reported as being closely packed. The seasonal closure of some amenities and the inaccurate claim of Good Sam affiliation are also important considerations. Local users searching for "camping near me" should carefully consider these drawbacks alongside the reported quiet atmosphere before choosing Hideaway Hills for their camping needs. It would be prudent to seek more recent reviews or contact the campground directly for the most up-to-date information on the condition of the facilities and their operational status.
