Markin Glen Campgrounds Introduce
For local users seeking a clean and well-maintained "camping near me" option in the Kalamazoo, Michigan area, Markin Glen Campgrounds, located in Kalamazoo, MI 49004, USA, presents a compelling choice. While its proximity to Lake Michigan is a notable advantage for those wishing to explore the lake, Markin Glen Campgrounds itself offers a range of amenities and features that make it a convenient and comfortable stay, particularly for RVers and families. Categorized under "camping near me," this campground stands out for its modern facilities and access to recreational opportunities, as highlighted in customer reviews.
The environment at Markin Glen Campgrounds is described as "quiet and clean" and "very clean, well-kept." This emphasis on cleanliness suggests a well-managed and pleasant outdoor setting. One reviewer notes that it has a "beautiful space for walking and biking," indicating that the campground is designed to encourage outdoor activity within its premises. While another reviewer refers to it as "city camping" due to the presence of concrete pads on every lot and a relative scarcity of trees, the overall impression is of a functional and orderly environment. The presence of a beach area for swimming is a significant environmental feature, although it's noted that the "lake" appears man-made and transitions into more of a pond in deeper areas. Despite this, the beach is described as "clean and sandy," making it an attractive spot for recreation. The lack of extensive shade due to few trees is a point of consideration, especially during hot weather. However, the accessibility to the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail, a paved bike path right next to the campground, significantly enhances the environmental appeal by offering miles of scenic biking and walking opportunities.
Markin Glen Campgrounds offers a range of services aimed at providing a comfortable and convenient stay for campers. A key feature, particularly appealing to RV owners, is the availability of "level concrete pads accommodating big rigs" and "FHU with 50 AMP," which stands for full hookup with 50-amp electrical service. This indicates that the campground provides water, sewer, and electrical connections at the campsites, catering to the needs of modern RVs. The easy reservation process, although requiring advance booking, especially during peak seasons like Labor Day weekend, suggests an organized management system. The strict 3 PM check-in time is a service policy that potential guests should be aware of. The presence of a beach area implies restroom facilities and possibly other amenities associated with a swimming area, although these are not detailed in the reviews. The mention of "lots of kids with bikes and hover boards" suggests a family-friendly atmosphere and potentially safe areas for these activities within the campground.
The features of Markin Glen Campgrounds are geared towards providing a comfortable and recreational stay. The level concrete pads are a significant feature for RVers, ensuring easy setup and stability. The full hookups with 50-amp service are a major draw for those with larger recreational vehicles. The beautiful space for walking and biking within the campground, coupled with direct access to the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail, offers extensive opportunities for outdoor exercise and exploration. The clean and sandy beach area provides a dedicated space for swimming and enjoying the water, despite its artificial origin. The campground's quiet nature, as noted by one reviewer, can be a desirable feature for those seeking a peaceful retreat. While one reviewer wished for more shade trees, activities, and a pool or other water feature, the existing features cater well to a specific type of camper, particularly those with RVs who appreciate full hookups and access to biking and walking trails. The family-friendly environment, evident from the number of children with bikes, makes it suitable for families looking for a safe and active outdoor experience.
Regarding promotional information, the provided reviews do not explicitly mention any current discounts or special offers at Markin Glen Campgrounds. However, one reviewer notes that the campsite was "reasonably priced" for its proximity to Lake Michigan and the amenities offered, particularly the full hookups. To obtain the most accurate and up-to-date information on pricing, seasonal rates, or any potential promotions, local users should contact Markin Glen Campgrounds directly at (269) 383-8778 or +1 269-383-8778. It would be advisable to inquire about any special rates for local residents, off-season discounts, or package deals that might be available. Given the popularity of the campground, especially during peak seasons, it is recommended to book well in advance, as suggested by one of the reviewers who made reservations several months ahead for Labor Day weekend.
In conclusion, Markin Glen Campgrounds in Kalamazoo, MI, offers a clean, well-maintained, and convenient "camping near me" experience, particularly for RV owners who appreciate level concrete pads and full hookup services. Its quiet environment and access to walking and biking trails, including the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail, provide excellent recreational opportunities. The presence of a clean and sandy swimming beach, although on a man-made lake, adds to its appeal, especially for families. While shade may be limited, and some might desire more organized activities or additional water features, the existing amenities and reasonable pricing make it a strong contender for those visiting Kalamazoo or seeking a base camp relatively close to Lake Michigan. Local users are encouraged to contact Markin Glen Campgrounds directly for the most current information on rates and reservations to plan their stay at this well-regarded campground.

Markin Glen Campgrounds Reviews
If you have a reason to visit Kalamazoo or want a reasonably prices campsite fairly close to Lake Michigan, this is the place to be. Level concrete pads accommodating big rigs, FHU with 50 AMP, quiet and clean, and with a beautiful space for walking and biking (and swimming). It’s all that. Reservations were easy to make but I did make them several months in advance as it was Labor Day weekend. They do impose a strict 3 PM check-in so do not expect to get to your site before that.
Sep 03, 2024 · Constance MierVery clean, well-kept, campground. My friend called it "city camping" as it has concrete pads on every lot and few trees. Full hook up at their price is awesome. The pull thru lots were perfect. Lots of kids with bikes and hover boards. Nice beach area to swim and it's actually clean and sandy, although the "lake" looks man-made and eventually turns into more of a pond in the deep water. Kalamazoo River Valley trail (paved bike path) is right there to ride for miles, which we did. Would have given 5 stars if it had more shade trees, more activities and maybe a pool or other water feature. It was a very hot weekend and quite a walk to the beach area.
Jun 21, 2020 · Vicky MostromVery nice county campground. Well maintained and quiet during our weekend visit in May. About 2/3 of campers were older with not kids. Rest were young couples and families. Sites are concrete pads and are long. There are two large ponds. One has a nice swimming beach. The other offers fishing. There is a paved path that goes around the two ponds. I don't consider it a week long campground but is a great place to stay while visiting family or as a stop off as part of a larger trip.
May 06, 2018 · William NauVery nice campground with concret pads and all are fhu. Small lake to swim and fish but no kayaking or canoeing allowed. Small park for the kids but no other amenities. Lots of small trees for shade. We stayed on lot 10
May 13, 2023 · Vicki FoutchThis is a lovely little FHU county campground. We stayed here for 3 nights for about $36 a night. All sites and roads are paved. There is a nice bike trail that you can catch from the park that goes into Kalamazoo - great trails inside the park as well. Great staff and excellent camp hosts. The restrooms were outdated, but clean. My main concern was a camper next door had 6 pitbulls while tent camping - we didn't feel safe next to them with our older, gentle breed dog. Also, the 3pm check-in (strictly enforced) is pretty late - especially considering most campers leave around 10 or 11.
