High Cliff State Park Campground Introduce
Looking for a "camping near me" experience that combines natural beauty with a range of outdoor activities? High Cliff State Park Campground, located at n7630 State Park Rd, Sherwood, WI 54169, USA, offers just that. You can reach them at (920) 989-1106 or +1 920-989-1106. Based on recent visitor feedback, the park boasts beautiful scenery, extensive trails, and family-friendly amenities, making it a popular choice for those seeking an outdoor escape in Wisconsin.
The Environment: Scenic Beauty and Lake Winnebago
High Cliff State Park, where the campground is located, is described as "pretty" with "lots of trees," suggesting a naturally appealing environment with shade and a sense of being immersed in the woods. A significant feature of the park is its proximity to Lake Winnebago, Wisconsin's largest lake. While the reviews mention "good spots for fishing with the kids," they don't explicitly state that the campground is directly on the lake, but access appears to be readily available. The "cool cliffs to walk next to" are another unique environmental aspect, indicating interesting geological formations that offer scenic views and hiking opportunities.
The presence of "tons of trails" is a major draw for those who enjoy hiking and exploring. These trails likely wind through the varied terrain of the park, offering different levels of difficulty and perspectives of the natural landscape, including the lake and the cliffs. The beautiful scenery mentioned by multiple visitors underscores the aesthetic appeal of the park, making it a pleasant place to spend time outdoors.
One practical consideration for campers with larger vehicles is noted in a review: "the turn to get down some loops are tight and not as big rig friendly (specifically to turn for sites 71-86)." This suggests that while the sites themselves are "spacious," maneuvering large RVs or trailers in certain areas of the campground might be challenging. Campers with big rigs should be aware of this potential issue when selecting a site.
Services and Features: Updated Amenities and Family-Friendly Facilities
High Cliff State Park Campground offers a range of services and features to enhance the camping experience:
- Spacious Campsites: Visitors have noted that the campsites are generously sized, providing ample room for setting up camp.
- Updated Bathrooms: The availability of updated bathroom facilities is a significant plus for comfort and convenience.
- Playground for Kids: This makes the campground particularly appealing for families with young children.
- Picnic Areas: Scattered picnic areas around the park provide designated spots for enjoying meals outdoors.
- Boat Launch: While not mentioned in the reviews, as a state park on Lake Winnebago, it's highly likely that there are boat launch facilities available, providing access to the lake for boating and fishing. (This is inferred and not directly from the provided reviews).
However, one reviewer did mention a less positive experience during check-in, noting that the park staff was "not very helpful," did not inquire if they were first-time visitors, and did not provide directions or a map. This suggests that the quality of service at check-in might be inconsistent.
Another important point raised is a potential extra charge for a tow vehicle when pulling a trailer or RV, which one visitor felt was not clearly communicated in the initial camping fee. Campers with such setups should be aware of this potential additional cost upon arrival.
Despite these service-related concerns, the availability of updated bathrooms and a playground are significant amenities that contribute to a comfortable and family-friendly camping environment.
Features and Activities: Hiking, Fishing, and Scenic Views
High Cliff State Park Campground is ideally situated for a variety of outdoor activities:
- Hiking: With "tons of trails," hikers of all levels can explore the park's diverse landscapes, including the cliffs and potentially lakefront areas.
- Fishing: Described as having "good spots for fishing with the kids," Lake Winnebago offers opportunities for various types of fishing.
- Scenic Views: The "beautiful scenery" and "cool cliffs to walk next to" provide picturesque views and unique geological features to explore.
- Picnicking: Scattered picnic areas make it easy to enjoy outdoor meals.
- Boating: Given its location on Lake Winnebago, boating is likely a popular activity, facilitated by potential boat launch access. (Inferred).
The combination of natural beauty, recreational opportunities, and family-friendly facilities makes High Cliff State Park Campground a versatile destination for a "camping near me" getaway.

High Cliff State Park Campground Reviews
Come here often! Tons of trails and beautiful scenery! Playground for kids, updated bathrooms. Great for spending a day in the outdoor. Picnic area scattered around the park. Good spots for fishing with the kids! Cool cliffs to walk next to!
Apr 26, 2025 · Andrew BakerPark is pretty and clean. Lots of trees. Sites are spacious. The turn to get down some loops are tight and not as big rig friendly (specifically to turn for sites 71-86). Hiking/bike trail was on back side of our site and was a nice walk. Park staff was not very helpful while checking in. Did not ask if we had ever been there before, not told where to go or given map. Also if you use a tow vehicle to pull your trailer/rv then they charge you extra upon arrival that is not included in your camping fee (which I personally feel is stupid).
May 26, 2022 · Jesska86Spaces are good size. Trails all around. Lots of tall trees and great shade. Loads of little black squirrels running around. Park rangers drive around a few times an hour it seems like. Camped here because they claim the woods are haunted. Didn't hear any ghosts just people yelling at midnight.
