Hooper Park Campground Introduce
For local Montana residents searching for "camping near me" in the vicinity of Lincoln, Hooper Park Campground, located at Lincoln, MT 59639, USA, presents an affordable and conveniently situated option. Reviews from recent campers offer a mixed but informative perspective, highlighting both the advantages and potential drawbacks of this city park campground. If you're looking for a budget-friendly campsite with some essential amenities and don't mind some urban influences, Hooper Park Campground might be worth considering.
Environment: Edge of Town Convenience with Natural Encounters
Hooper Park Campground is located on the "edge of town" and set back approximately 300 feet from the highway, offering a degree of convenience for travelers and locals alike. While its proximity to town provides easy access to amenities and services, it also means that some urban influences, such as noise, might be present. Despite its location, the campground has experienced visits from local wildlife, with one reviewer noting, "We had deer come walking right through the site," suggesting that nature can still be encountered within the park boundaries. The campsites themselves are equipped with basic necessities, including a picnic bench and a fire ring, providing a foundation for a traditional camping experience.
However, some environmental concerns have been raised by visitors. One review mentioned "scrub encroachment pretty far over the 2-track at some points," though this comment seems to be from a review of Medicine Point Lookout and appears to be erroneously included here. Focusing on the reviews specific to Hooper Park Campground, one camper reported finding "Trash in fire ring" and a significant amount of litter, specifically "50+ cigarette butts littering the entire camp site," along with "Random trash and junk sitting around." While this reviewer expressed hope that the trash would be cleaned up soon as the campground had just opened, it's a factor that potential visitors should be aware of. The overall cleanliness of the campground was described as "clean" by the same reviewer, suggesting that the litter issue might be localized to individual sites or recently accumulated.
Another environmental factor to consider is the presence of "Huge stadium lights shining at the camp all night." This artificial light could impact the natural ambiance of the campground and might be disruptive to sleep for some individuals. Campers sensitive to light pollution should plan accordingly with eye masks or by choosing a site that offers some shielding from the lights, if possible.
Services and Amenities: Affordable Basics with Hot Showers
One of the significant advantages of Hooper Park Campground, according to visitor feedback, is its affordability. One reviewer mentioned a cost of "$10 a night for a camp site with a picnic bench and fire ring," while another who stayed in June 2024 reported "$20 for a basic site, $30 for one with electricity." This price range suggests that Hooper Park offers a budget-friendly camping option for the area. A notable amenity that received positive mention is the availability of "hot showers" and "clean bathrooms." While one reviewer noted "1 shower for each men and women," the quality of the shower was described as "good." These facilities are a significant convenience, especially for longer stays or for those who appreciate having access to clean and warm washing options while camping.
The presence of electricity at some sites (for $30 per night, as of June 2024) is another valuable amenity for campers who rely on electronic devices or require power for their RVs or other equipment. The basic sites, priced lower, still include a picnic bench and fire ring, essential for comfortable camping. The friendly and helpful nature of the host was also mentioned positively by one reviewer, suggesting that assistance and information are readily available on-site.
However, there is no mention of other amenities such as potable water hookups at all sites, laundry facilities, or specific recreational features within the campground itself. Given that it's a city park campground, the focus appears to be on providing basic camping infrastructure and essential services like restrooms and showers.
Features: Convenience, Affordability, and Potential for Noise
The key features of Hooper Park Campground can be summarized as its convenience, affordability, and the availability of hot showers and clean bathrooms. Its location on the edge of Lincoln provides easy access to town amenities while still offering a camping environment. The price point, particularly for basic sites, makes it an attractive option for budget-conscious travelers and locals looking for a quick getaway. The unexpected bonus of deer occasionally wandering through the campground adds a touch of nature to the urban-adjacent setting.
However, potential drawbacks include the reported litter on some sites and the presence of stadium lights that illuminate the campground throughout the night. Additionally, one reviewer mentioned "Loud campers partying," indicating that noise levels could be a concern at times. If you are sensitive to noise, especially at night, or prefer a completely dark camping environment, Hooper Park Campground might require some preparation, such as bringing earplugs and an eye mask, as suggested by one visitor.
The fact that the campground had "just opened" at the time of one review (date not specified, but implied to be before the June 2024 stay) suggests that some initial issues, like the litter, might be temporary and could improve with time and management attention. However, it's essential for prospective campers to consider the most recent reviews for the most up-to-date assessment of the campground's condition.
Promotional Information and Pricing: Affordable Rates with Options
The promotional information available is primarily the pricing details mentioned by recent visitors: $10 per night for a basic site (date unspecified), $20 per night for a basic site (as of June 2024), and $30 per night for a site with electricity (as of June 2024). These rates appear to be quite competitive for the region, especially considering the availability of hot showers and clean bathrooms. There is no mention of weekly or extended stay discounts, or any other specific promotional offers. Local users interested in the most current pricing and any potential discounts should likely contact the Lincoln city parks department or the campground host directly, if contact information is available online or at the campground.

Hooper Park Campground Reviews
The good: Cheap and convenient. $10 a night for a camp site with a picnic bench and fire ring. Located at the edge of town and set back about 300ft from the highway. They have hot showers! Clean bathrooms. The bad: Trash in fire ring. 50+ cigarette butts littering the entire camp site. Random trash and junk sitting around. Huge stadium lights shining at the camp all night. Loud campers partying.Overall, this spot is definitely worth it if you bring earplugs, eye mask, and a trash bag. They had just opened, so I'm assuming the trash will be cleaned up soon. The host was friendly and helpful. The overall campground is clean. It's a great spot if you want a cheap campsite and are prepared to deal with the noise and lights.
May 16, 2021 · Caleb KlausWe stayed 6/24/2024. For a city park it was pretty good. $20 for a basic site, $30 for one with electricity. 1 shower for each men and women but the shower was good. We had deer come walking right through the site.
Jul 10, 2024 · Stanton SchmidtHooper park is a great lil campground to stay in. Bike and skate park for the kids. We'll kept. Reasonable nightly rate. They raised the price, since they put in new electrical, but still way better than most places.
Jul 23, 2024 · david DixonOne of our favorite spots when traveling through the area on motorcycles. For less than the price of a typical Forest Service campground they have flush toilets and SHOWERS. Spots are far enough apart to not feel cramped, beautiful trees for shade, just excellent! Some of the things I see some people complaining about make me wonder if they’ve ever actually camped before outside of a high browed RV park, LOL. For a spot to pitch a tent, take a shower, and relax by the fire after a long day on a motorcycle it’s pretty tough to beat, especially for the price.
Aug 10, 2022 · Justin EyreNice park for cycle tourers with $10 tent rates, electric at the pavilion and hot showers. The water near the camp sites is non-potable so get it at the bathroom spigot. Camp sites have good shade with minimal road noise. There are plenty of food joints within pedaling distance.
