Beach , birds, and biking. The birds were amazing. I think it’s turned me into a birder. Beach is quiet and beautiful. We camped in the south campground which has concrete pads and full service. It is super close to the beach access (1/8 mile). Lots of Biking trails lots of alligators and they were active! Listen to the video; they can roar! Who knew. - Misty Carter

Huntington Beach State Park Campground Introduce

For local users in search of a remarkable 'camping near me' experience along the South Carolina coast, Huntington Beach State Park Campground, located in Murrells Inlet, SC 29576, USA, presents an exceptional opportunity. Situated just a short drive from the bustling Myrtle Beach area, this campground offers a distinctly different and arguably more enriching coastal camping experience, as highlighted by numerous enthusiastic reviews. With a focus on nature, spaciousness, and direct beach access, Huntington Beach State Park caters to a variety of interests, from birdwatching and biking to simply enjoying a serene stretch of coastline.

The environment of Huntington Beach State Park Campground is a significant draw for visitors. The reviews consistently praise the natural beauty and diverse ecosystems within the park. One reviewer exclaimed, "Beach, birds, and biking. The birds were amazing. I think it’s turned me into a birder." This testament underscores the park's reputation as a prime location for birdwatching, attracting enthusiasts with a wide variety of avian species. The quiet and beautiful beach is another key environmental highlight, offering a tranquil alternative to the often crowded shores of Myrtle Beach. The mention of active alligators adds a unique element of wildlife viewing, providing an exciting and memorable experience for campers. The opportunity to witness these creatures in their natural habitat, even hearing their "roar" as one reviewer noted, is a distinctive feature of this coastal environment.

The campground itself is divided into two main sections: the north campground and the south campground. The south campground is described as the newer section, featuring "concrete pads and full service." This indicates that these campsites are equipped with full hookups, likely including water, electricity (potentially 50 amp service), and sewer connections, catering to the needs of modern RVs and those seeking maximum convenience. Its proximity to the beach access, noted as just 1/8 mile, makes it an ideal choice for campers who prioritize easy and frequent trips to the ocean.

In contrast, the north campground is the original section and offers a different camping experience. While it has "only a handful full hookups," it is preferred by many visitors, including one reviewer who mentioned a "5 min walk from our site to the beach." This suggests that the north campground might offer a more traditional camping feel or perhaps larger or more naturally integrated campsites. The short walk to the "wide pristine long long stretch of beach" is a major advantage for campers in this section as well. The beach itself is described as having "scantly a few visitors here and beach goers here and there, mostly folks who camp here and a few days trippers," emphasizing its peaceful and uncrowded nature, a stark contrast to the busy beaches of Myrtle Beach.

Beyond the beach and campsites, Huntington Beach State Park boasts "lots of Biking trails," catering to cycling enthusiasts of all levels. Exploring the park's diverse landscapes on two wheels offers a fantastic way to experience its beauty and potentially encounter wildlife. The presence of these dedicated trails adds another layer of recreational activity for campers.

In terms of services, the south campground offers full hookups, a significant amenity for RV travelers. While specific details about restrooms, showers, or laundry facilities within each campground loop are not explicitly mentioned, state parks typically provide these essential services for their campers. The review notes that the "campground is clean," indicating a commitment to maintaining a pleasant and hygienic environment for visitors. The mention of a "Campstore" suggests that basic camping supplies, snacks, and perhaps souvenirs are available for purchase, although it is noted as being "a bit far away but manageable."

A key feature that sets Huntington Beach State Park Campground apart is its spaciousness. One reviewer explicitly stated that the campground is "spacious, making maneuvering trailers RVs much easier." This is a significant benefit for RV owners who often face challenges navigating tight campsites in other locations. The airy layout contributes to a more relaxed and less crowded camping experience overall, further differentiating it from the more densely packed campgrounds in the Myrtle Beach area.

However, one important point to consider is the cost. A reviewer noted, "It is, however, much more expensive than all other state operated campgrounds, on par with privately owned properties." This indicates that while the location and amenities are highly valued, the price point might be higher than other state park campgrounds in South Carolina. Despite this, the same reviewer concludes that "the location makes it well worth it," suggesting that the unique combination of beach access, natural beauty, spacious sites, and diverse activities justifies the higher cost for many visitors.

Promotional information is not explicitly provided in the reviews. However, the overwhelmingly positive feedback, highlighting the beach, birdwatching, biking, alligator sightings, spaciousness, and the tranquil atmosphere compared to Myrtle Beach, serves as strong organic promotion. Local users seeking a high-quality coastal camping experience with a focus on nature and space are likely to be drawn to these attributes. To inquire about specific rates, availability, and any potential seasonal promotions, contacting the park directly at (843) 237-4440 or +1 843-237-4440 would be the best course of action. Information might also be available on the South Carolina State Parks website.

For local users looking for a 'camping near me' destination that offers a premium coastal experience, Huntington Beach State Park Campground in Murrells Inlet stands out. Its diverse environment, catering to birdwatchers, beachgoers, bikers, and wildlife enthusiasts, combined with spacious campsites and varying hookup options, provides a comfortable and engaging stay. While it may be more expensive than other state-operated campgrounds, the unique location, pristine beach access, and overall quality appear to justify the cost for many. Whether you prefer the full hookups and proximity of the south campground or the potentially more secluded feel of the north campground, Huntington Beach State Park offers a memorable coastal camping getaway right in your local region.

In conclusion, Huntington Beach State Park Campground offers local users a top-tier 'camping near me' experience along the South Carolina coast. Its environment boasts stunning beaches, abundant birdlife, extensive biking trails, and opportunities to observe alligators. Services include both full-hookup and partial-hookup campsites across the north and south campgrounds, with clean facilities and a camp store. Key features include spacious sites, easy beach access, and a tranquil atmosphere distinct from nearby Myrtle Beach. While noted as being pricier than other state parks, the exceptional location and quality of experience make it a worthwhile destination for those seeking a premium coastal camping adventure in the Murrells Inlet area.
